Not bothering to dry off, you get to work clearing your kitchen counters and setting out your ingredients, searching the recipe you wanted to try on your phone and queuing the instructional video on youtube. It goes... pretty well, actually. You get some egg whites splattered on your counter, but you get the whole thing done in about 45 minutes and the quiche looks and smells great as you pull it out of your oven. Ahh, spam and broccoli!

You eat a third or so of it before you feel just absolutely full and stash the rest in the fridge. Well, gonna count that one as a success. As you're scrubbing your plate, you start thinking about when (or whether) you want to head back out when, without warning, the lights go out.

You get out your phone and turn on the flashlight, receiving a warning about "network connectivity lost" and seeing zero bars. With some trouble you make your way to the fusebox in the hall and start flipping switches. Nope.

Is it's only in our apartment? If not, is it only in this building?

Storm. Possibly supernatural bullshit, given that this was apparently not forecasted. And the other person who's remarked on it is also somewhat supernatural.

Let's probably just stay here, but be prepared for... something.

Look out a window to see if a power line got downed, then just go hunker down in the bedroom and read a book or something. Grumble angrily at the universe conspiring to spoil your quiche.

Ugh... well, there's no way you're walking out into the neighborhood while it's pouring buckets. Out your windows what you can see is mainly the parking zone and the common area of your complex... well, you normally could, if the streetlights weren't off. Mkay. You double check your deadbolt and go lie down in your actual bedroom. Fortunately you've got a couple full phone-chargers, enough to keep your phone light on for a good many hours. You pick up a book from the small collection by your bed and get to reading: it's...

Post apocalyptic fiction.

...it's a post apocalyptic urban fantasy book, in which all modern technology suddenly stops working one day. You've read it before, but a long time ago. Perhaps a bit on-the-nose for a blackout, but soon you find yourself absorbed. Hours flow by, your eyes growing heavy reading by the small light of your phone. You rest them for a moment...

...

...

......

CLANG

Your eyes open. You feel your face resting in a small spot of your own drool. Ugh. Must've fallen asleep with the pillow pressing your chin tho the side again.

THUMP

Oh right. What the hell is that? It sounds like it's coming from outside.

BANG

...from the direction of your parking spot.

Put on a raincoat and grab an umbrella. Head out to check on your car.
