Surlington's LogbookMidday Observation : Temperatures are stable at -30 degrees, with little wind and great visibility.
Next week : Over the next week, we expect the temperature to remain constant and the weather to remain decent
After next week : The pocket of good weather protecting us is going to collapse sooner or later. When it does, we can expect major temperature drops, dangerous wind speeds and lots of snow.
Expedition notes : Flamfjord is buzzing with activity. The continuing decent weather has allowed us to send out a number of expeditions, gathering up all the people we lost on our way here. Not all of them made it, but many more did than we expected. The construction of the Hothouse was a well timed affair. Not only does it bring a much appreciated amount of variety into our men's diets, it also helps to feed the new members. Others issues however still need to be adressed. The temporary housing we build is now well above capacity, and hot bunking is not a viable solution when spending the night outside means freezing to death.
Expedition Log (The forest): We found a great chunk of our missing expedition members sheltering in the forest here. It seems the unseasonal frost has driven many animals, both prey and predator, down into the lower reaches of the forest. Keeping the wolves at bay was an intimidating task, but modern weaponry easily outclasses fang and claw. When our expedition reached the forest, our wayward members were decently fed, and had a number of wolf pelts with them.
Expedition log (The Tribe) : Offering shelters to guests is long standing tradition among local tribes in the artic, and our men and women were well taken care of. Even though the unseasonal cold had disrupted their hunts and gathering efforts, the local tribes shared what they could and helped our expedition members as best as they were able. It's undeniable however, that doing so has compromised their own survival position. Their chief has recognized as such, and has asked us to shelter his tribe for the duration of the storm.
Results (combined) : 2 actions gained
Status effect : Insufficient shelter [-1 housing heat]
Choice : The local tribes have asked for shelter.
[] Welcome them into our homes as guests ( they will consume 1 food, and worsen the insufficient shelter effect)
[] Welcome them into the range of our generator (no food consumption, keep them close, but don't share food or shelter)
[] Deny

Indoor activities are actions that can be taken by people operating indoors. Typical indoor activities are research, constructing things in factories and other such things.
Innovate - With the new workshop, a range of possibilities opens up (Max 1 per turn)
- Heating : Generator Power Upgrade : 4 steel, 1 steam core: Doubles coal consumption, provide +1 heat in housing and indoors
- Exploration/Industry : Telescopic Lenses : 1 Temp Steel : Inclusion of lenses on the beacon would allow us to see much further, providing more accurate weather reports
- Resources : Charcoal kiln : 2 steel, 2 wood : Designs for a kiln capable of turning wood into coal on demand
- Food/Health/Shelter : Frostbite treatments : (1 food) Frostbite is a dangerous enemy. Refreshing our medical personnel on optimal treatment is an important task.

Originally a research and trading settlement established by the Empire in the north, it served as a testbed for the Generators. Dr Surlington launched expeditions from here, and so was well known to the few permanent residents. Thanks to his long-held suspicions of an imminent ice age, he had contingency plans in place to recruit the finest scientists and engineers, whilst also importing hardy laborers to work in the factories. Combining their expertise with the small amounts of advanced technology housed in the settlement's labs, he intends to upgrade the generator to something more modern, and weather the storm for as long as possible.
Flamfjord is, as the name suggests, situated in a fjord. The woods in the area are sparse, but existent, and a few seams of coal and iron are known to exist in the surrounding mountains. In addition, it served as a trading hub for the natives, who exchanged furs and reindeer meat for British goods. However, it is unknown whether any of them have survived the Frost's embrace.

Inhabitants and factions
Sergeant William Baxter, Royal Marines. Successfully marshaled his fellow survivors back to the ship when they got lost on their way to the city.
The City is lead by Dr William Surlington. Member of the esteemed Royal Society, and visionary climate scientist, William Surlington was the driving force behind the creation of the city of Flamfjord as the Frost covered the world. EHis great knowledge of the climate and his experience with Arctic Expeditions are great benefits to the colony, though his curiosity and fervent desire to understand the Frost sometimes drive him to take risks others do not understand.
The city is peaceful and orderly. No major factions are present, for now.
The Supply Ship We've recovered what could easily be recovered from the vessel, but there's still steel, wood and coal left within it. With considerable manpower or heavy machinery we could try to recover it's steam turbine and boilers. The constantly shifting ice is cracking it's hull however, and the vessel with not last forever.
The steam launch The cargo ship's steam launch was missing, last spotted floundered farther into the Fjord. The tiny vessel is nonetheless quite advanced, powered by a steam core.
The Outpost Looted of it's supplies, the outpost still contains valuable scientific instruments. Send a few men to note down the latest readings (cost 0 food)
The Forest(Exploitation) A forest lower on the hills, that may have offered wood and food (cost 2 food)
The Telegraph Station Once this station had a direct oceanic cable to London. The link inland has broken under the weight of the snow, but the seaside station should still be connected.
