Hard: 6
Hor-Aha 12 lb Cannon Safety Improvements:
We have, as the name implies, made the cannon much much much less likely to explode except when damaged or dirty. We have also managed to rifle the barrel and made up sized Reseph balls to fire from it, this has proven to make it more accurate, however the shot bounces less. Although the accuracy is a good enough for the trade off. The gun has also been able to be tested more seeing how it is no longer a hazard to the crew firing it, although, nothing much of note has been gained in knowledge of how it operates other then that the news that the gun has proven very reliable now that it has been fixed.

It is now the Battle Phase, The Pharaoh is glad your work has payed off thus far.

Battle Report 4, 1893
This year we spent all of our available time working on one thing, well, technically multiple things but they are all related to the one thing we made...Moving on, we made the Hor-Aha 12 lb Cannon, perhaps our greatest feet of utilizing gunpowder yet, it is the longest ranged, most accurate and heaviest artillery in the war. On top of that, its reliable and made of iron so its no where near as heavy as the old Narmer, which it practically replaces. Luckily, we aren't the only ones to have spent the whole year working on something...

The Kari raiders have worked on what appears to be a rifle with a apparent caplock mechanism, such a rifle is called the Muqali 1893 Pattern Rifle. It appears to be just as accurate as our rifle, more reliable, and seems to load just slightly faster then our own. We speculate that our enemy now has something equivalent to our own ammo now, but we aren't sure exactly what it is, if they have it at all, though chances are, if they do have a new ammo, its a copy of our own.

Battle Report, Naval Combat: In the ocean, we don't have much new to report other then our cannons are now deadlier then before and sink our enemies ships much much better then before. Of course, this is thanks to the new shot we designed for them to use, but otherwise their shipping is just as harmed as it was before, only now slightly less time is spent firing at them then before. Sadly this means the enemy does get a few shipments through to their troops on the island, but its not enough to keep them fully supplied at least. Naturally, we have a Major Naval Advantage

Battle Report, Island Mountains. Attackers, Nafuna: Our enemies rifle seems to be not so much of a pain as we would expect here, although thats mostly due to the supply issues our enemy has. The enemy soldiers actually equipped with the new rifle tend to do what we did and still do to them, just they run off and hide after a few shots to move to a different location to attack us from while our soldiers look paranoid at every ledge and corner, this slows us down from our advance and we lose some troops due to this, but luckily, they don't have enough of them to bring things to an equal fight, and its mostly us who do the ambushes. However the few times some small groups of our soldiers equipped with rifles meet, they tend to go to whoever gets the first shot or which side has the more skilled soldiers, but luckily such a thing is rare, and the only time this happens is with small groups. All of this combined allows us to push the poorly supplied Karikhatans back. [Nafuna 4/4, Karikhita 0/4] We will start to gain the resources from this location by next year, so long as we fend the Kari's back

Battle Report, Villages. Attackers, Nafuna, Karikhita: Its quite annoying, the fight in the villages. Our enemy has a rifle able to even the standings for once in the small arms department, however our artillery is able to push them back to an extent considering its superior to the Karikhitan cannon. Either way the battles are usually close and it really depends on a mix of luck, the generals, officers, and the soldiers to pull the battle ahead, although we do have a edge with our artillery, it is not able to make us win every single battle, and its not able to keep our momentum up to take the last of our old towns back, yet they are unable to take the land we have liberated from their old advances. Just like last year, no one advances in a stalemate [Nafuna 3/4, Karikhita 1/4]

Battle Report, Swamp. Attackers, Karikhita: The battle in the swamp is a close one, our enemy is armed with a just as effective but more reliable weapon then us and that is used to their full advantage, and although we have larger cannons that can now properly help in the battles here via long ranged fire, they are too far away to be of much use in any main battles and mostly spend their time firing randomly in Kari occupied parts of the jungle hoping they hit something. As such, our enemy, along with their own cannons that can do more in an actual battle, tend to be able to do enough that our troops are cut down badly here, however, despite this the Nafuni will is strong and it takes much more then that to drive us out of our own land. We are able to hold the line with heavy losses, although it is barely held. [Nafuna 1/4, Karikhita 3/4]

Outside world and Internal affairs: The British and American shipment of machinery has arrived, and although it seems odd and complex, we have instantly gotten to work setting it up in new buildings for advanced workshops called factories, although, our top civic engineers have gone to work on the great task of actually figuring out how they work so we can possibly make our own new and improved versions of the equipment. We also had a few skilled people add some nice designs and translate the words from English to readable Hieroglyphics. In other news, Thomas Edison completes worlds 1st movie studio at West Orange, New Jersey. Rudolf Diesel obtains a patent for his internal combustion engine which would later known as the diesel engine. A petition organized by Kate Sheppard, demanding women's suffrage, is delivered to New Zealand's parliament. It is signed by over 25,000 women and New Zealand becomes the first country to grant all women the right to vote. It should also be mentioned that our rifles are no longer complex due to Industrialization

Samir Mark 1 Rifle
The Samir Mark 1 is yet another improvement to our small arms. The vast majority of the weapon is 'borrowed' from the Reseph Series 1 with the main change being the firing mechanism, with weapon makes use of a so called percussion cap. In order to operate the weapon the user rams a whole paper cartridge down the muzzle of the weapon. A stout spike with a hole in it at the bottom of the barrel then punctures the round. This hole is connected to where the nipple for the percussion cap is located. The user then places a percussion cap on the nipple, cocks the hammer and, the rifle is ready to fire. The hammer rifle in spite of it comparatively small change offers a surprising amount of benefits. First off the weapon is much faster and easier to reload, has a vastly shorter delay from pulling the trigger to the weapon firing and, is much more reliable in wet and muddy conditions. The cartridges used by the weapon are coated in oil or wax to keep them dry and for the most part burn off when the rifle is fired. They will slowly build up ash and residue in in the back of the barrel but, the residue from the black powder would force the user to clean the weapon long before it stops the spike from puncturing the cartridge.

Before we go off and make our first impossible design keep in mind three things, A: we don't know how hard their design was it could very well have been VH, B: They needed to use a revision to either fix issues or to get minnie balls/cartridges and, with black powder a breech loader is likely to have it's mechanism seize after a dozen or so shots.

Also a paired revision:

Samir Blastshell
A new shell making use of percussion caps. The body of the steel shell is loaded with a large amount of black powder which is detonated by a fuze located in the nose. The fuze has two 'safety' features, first off the fuze is left off the shell during transport and is screwed on once ready to be fired. In addition in between the nose striker and the percussion cap in the fuze is a wad of cotton which means the shell can safety be rammed down a cannon's muzzle and can for the most part be dropped without detonating. The shell has some issues however, first off when fired at a low angle it can 'skip' and either fail to detonate or do so past where it first landed. In addition it fragments fairly randomly, sometime sending a shower of shrapnel a dozen or two meters in every direction and, at other just breaking into two or three large pieces and not hitting anything.

I propose the following for our design this turn:

.305 Reseph Akar Series 1 Service Rifle
The newest rifle from Reseph Seti-Nekht, created after observing how outdated the Nafuni arsenal was compared to other civilized nations across the world, the Akar series aims to surpass anything seen before in the war, as well as his contender’s rifle, and bring highly accurate, powerful and long ranged firepower to soldiers of the Nafuni Royal Army. The rifle is rather innovative compared to his prior work, as it incorporates pre-made metal brass cartridges (detailed below), percussion caps and a bolt action, inspired by foreign designers. The bolt action, in particular, a turn-bolt action, is named the Reseph-Colon bolt action, after the main contributors to it’s creation, Reseph Seti-Nekth and Jacob Colon. Cartridges are fed into the weapon’s barrel chamber by manually operating a handle connected to the bolt on the right-hand side of the weapon. To operate the handle, the shooter does an upward turn, followed by a rearward pull to unlock the bolt and open the breech, extracting and ejecting a spent casing and enabling the shooter to insert a new cartridge. The new cartridge is held in place by locking lugs just behind the bolt head, enabling it to withstand greater pressures from cartridges, the firing pin within the bolt is cocked on opening, where-in an upward rotation of the bolt when the rifle is opened cocks the action, the bolt is pushed forwards and finally the breech is closed tight by the bolt locking against the receiver. The weapon is to be 38 inches long, with a barrel measuring 25.79 inches in length, rifling of one turn per 13 inches and is to weight no more than seven pounds.

Jose Carrera would like to thank Noble Nafuna for allowing him and his family to escape migrate from Cannala and offers his skills at weapons development.

Carrera Series 1 Model 1 Repeating Rifle
In these trying times, Carrera knows only one thing: They are coming! And they are coming numbers! For this purpose you need a rate of fire never seen before and Carrera offers that to the Noble Nafuna Army.
Using new Carrera-Reseph .36 Revolver Carbine Cartridge (CR .35 CCR), it incorporate a percussion cap into the bottom of a brass casing. Filling up rest of the cartridge with gunpowder and finally sealing it with wax and projectile, this allows users to have ready-to-use cartridge without needing to measure gunpowder on the field or worrying about conditions. A simply strike into the rim of the cartridge, to detonate the percussion powder and a bullet is sent flying down the barrel.
Using a cylinder to hold up to 6 CR .35 CCR rounds, Carrera Repeating Rifle offers an easy way to reload and rearm the weapon by a simple recocking of an hammer. Reloading is simple, as entire rifle can be opened on a hinge exposing the cylinder, allowing user to remove spend rounds and insert new ones. In the time competition has managed to reload one of their rifles, Carrera armed soldier has already taken down six of them and has already reloaded another 6. Recoking the hammer also causes the cylinder to rotate, ensuring that soldiers always have a round ready to fire when they need to. Each side of the cylinder has a shield to prevent possible backblast from hitting the user and directing all the energy down the barrel.

As my pop used to say: you do not need to be a better shot, you just need more bullets!

Carrera-Reseph .36 Revolver Carbine Cartridge
Cartridge is a rimfire cartridge, with percussion powder placed at the bottom of the cartridge and detonate by striking the rim of the cartridge. Is is in total of 1.6 inches long, with diameter of .361, rim extending to .55 reducing down to .50 at the base of the catridge, with bullet being .36 in diameter. Case is 1.6 inches long while bullet is .8, brining to the total length to 2.1 inches with 0.3 inches long neck. Round was developed as a joint effort by Carrera and Reseph manufacturing, after Reseph grudgingly conceded to design the bullets for the thing after it was evident Jose would win the government contract. Meanwhile, Carrera argued in continued use of .45 against Resephs claims that the round was too powerful for accurate high ROF firing. Carrera admitted that Reseph might have a point after he dislocated his shoulder trying to prove that powerful cartridge is not too powerful for high ROF shooting. As a result, two designers engaged in joint effort to design a superior cartridge.
