Alright, I'm going to grab something to eat, and when I come back I'll lock in revisions and start the write-up.

Why don't you try and improving some of the basic stats of your crystals or hulls with a revision?  Like see if you can improve your skiffs or viper hulls to make them less slow?  Or your lift crystals for better performance?

*sigh*

Devastator has been an observer, to both threads. I can't exactly stop him from sending PMs, but I'd rather prefer it if he just broke down and chose a side and stuck to it.

In that light, I can't exactly request that you forget any faction specific information he might distribute, but please don't redistribute it.

I was pretty sure I hasn't seen his name against the Wrethi thread, so I was curious.

To be honest, that is something at least some of us have been considering, and re-reading Draig's clarification on crystals and how crap they are, I'm absolutely certain that one of Wreth's pre-war actions was a general improvement to their crystals.

I'm honestly debating between proposing a design to improve our own (effectively evening the field again) or to spend the same amount of effort to just increase our COWS production in some way (either crystal or ore, looking at how tight those budgets are).

Blockading
Efficacy: 1
The basic refinements of techniques needed to blockade a Spire shouldn't be that difficult, but there appears to be a considerable resistance among the officers about the idea of actually shooting down civilian vessels. While a bit of training is sufficient to help captains estimate the range of a Spire's guns and stay out of the way, it's difficult to convince them to go against their honor and actually shoot unarmed vessels.

In the field, captains will avoid a spire's guns, and will engage military vessels as normal, but will very likely let civilian vessels through.

Scouting
Efficacy:  6
In direct contrast to the attempt to teach captains how to run an effective blockade, the idea of scouts is embraced whole-heartedly, with notable minor improvements. Captains working as scouts will make their best effort to use cloud topology and atmospheric phenomena to gain the best vantage point possible that still affords them cover. Currently, they signal using the cannon-shot method, but they'll use the Signal Flashers to transmit much more complex tactical information when the technology becomes available.

Small scouting vessels used in this manner are highly effective, and would become more so with the appropriate equipment.

It is now the production, deployment, and tactics phase.

Spire Kasgyre's production stands at,
13/y Crystal, 31/65 Banked
17/y Ore, 20/85 banked
19/y Wood, 25/95 banked
10/y Silk, 38/50 banked

Kasgyr dice don't do threes. Well that sinks my idea to have our skiffs blockade the enemy this turn. Still that scouting tactic is nice and given that we'll soon have a signal flasher.

The dice giveth and the dice taketh away.

Anyway, this is the plan I think we came up with earlier in the turn:

Quote from: Operation Right Hook
Pull both the Serpintus and the Anguis to Kasgyre
Strip the Anguis, repair the broken bits of the equipment (7c, 5o)
Fit the equipment to one of the new hulls and christen it Pythonidae
Upgrade the Pythonidae's 6 trim crystals to trim webs (3o, 9w difference in cost)
Repair the Serpintus (6s) and update equipment
Fit 3 armour sections to the Serpintu and Pythonidae (12o)

Total cost 7c, 20o, 9w, 6s

Move the five skyskiffs at Glowcove to the rightmost Wrethi spire. 4 with ambush tactics, 1 with scouting.
Two skyskiffs at kasgyre move to blackstone and use scouting tactics.

We can still blockade their spire and freak them out a bit, even if we don't actually reduce their resources at all.

I don't much like that plan as it gives them time to reinforce TC (which they will attempt this turn without question). If they drop more of their field guns our marines are screwed. I'll post my own suggestion in a bit after I run some numbers.

Operation: victory from the ashes, AKA, my stupidest plan yet.

I think it is very likely that the enemy will attempt to blockade the three captains, expecting us to dis engage. We will dis engage, but not in the direction they suspect. Our ships will move into enemy territory, stopping at the first demi spire and preparing ambush tactics. The enemy will likely be moving their transport plus two skiffs up to the captains. Can two injured vipers kill two skiffs?  I believe they can, especially if using ambush tactics. Or skiffs move down into enemy territory as well and blockade the demi spire. Next turn they will link up with the vipers and escort them back to the home spire.

@GM. When we first queried blockading without tactics, you said there would be a small chance to intercept resource transport without proper tactics. Do we still have that small chance with our bad tactics, or does it become a zero chance?

It's even smaller, but it does exist.

I'm not sure about risking our damaged Viper like that. But if we can take out their transport before it deploys it's troops it would hand us the TC. However I don't think they will be as surprised the second time we try something like that. So allow me to suggest instead:
Quote from: production plan
Strip Anguis + repair broken (7c, 5o)
Fit the equipment to one of the new hulls and christen it Pythonidae
Upgrade the Pythonidae's 6 trim crystals to trim webs (3o, 9w difference in cost)
Fit 2 armour sections to the Pythonidae (6o)
Repair Anguis (2o, 5w)
-------------------------------
Total Cost(7c, 16o, 14w, 0s)
Total remaining(24c, 4o, 11w, 38s)
Quote from: counterattack
Move Serpentis to enemy left demi spire and blockade (hoping to kill transport)
Move Anguis to Kasgyre for stripping
After refit move Pythonidae +2x Skyskiffs to TC using airborne ambush. (the skyskiffs will act as the initial attackers with the Pythonidae coming up from below)
Move the five skyskiffs at Glowcove to the rightmost Wrethi spire. 4 with ambush tactics, 1 with scouting.

Tfw you try to make blockade tactics, and it literally makes your blockade worse. :(

Let's just leave the skiffs on ambush tactics. At least that way they stand a chance in a fight. Plus they have a higher intercept rate for civilian resources that way.

Yeah that's a point, i've switched the skiffs to ambush. Blockade should still work fine against military targets and troop transports though.

After Draig's rule clarification,  I don't think we can move the Anguis back, strip it, refit the Pythonidae with the Anguis' stuff and then move the Pythonidae all in the same turn.
