Seems to me like we have a winner- let's study that spell book!

Hey, Stirk!

It's UPDATE TIME.

Someone really outta tell that to my professors then.

The Interrogators dejectedly put away their tools and join the Autopsy Specialists in the company bar.

By this point, our technique of rune testing has been perfected to the point that research proceeds with great speed. Due to the nature of the black book, a variety of chicken meals had been purchased from the team to use as a testing target (and, despite the objections of many scientists, were incinerated after testing was complete for safety reasons). Necromancy seems to be the focus of the book, as observed. It is capable of raising the dead-temporarily, at least-both in whole and in parts. There is a minimum size requirement judging from what we have found- a wing is able to move on its own until it is dropped into a blender and set on high. The strength of the creature tends to depend on the strength of the target and caster- a whole chicken is much more fearsome than a single drum. There are a variety of ways to control the creatures in this book-including "Puppet-like" were their movements are controlled by hand gestures, "Servants" were they follow the spoken word of their master with limited intelligence, and "Free" were they follow base instincts implanted in them. As before, the book is analyzed for its chemical composition and destroyed in the process.

Now would be a good time for a refresher on Tier 1 magic. Tier 1 magic requires runes, discovered from the books, to activate. These runes are made of a very specific composition of chemicals (including expensive metals and the like). These runes must be on the person casting the spell-it can be carved into armor, on a weapon, or on a sheet of paper placed in their pockets. It just has to be on them. To actually cast the spell, they need to make a variety of elaborate gestures. This means heavy armor makes it impossible to cast spells. We can develop new spells using what we know from the books. For example, we could combine a Black book spell whose runes seem to mean "Give life to the dead" and a Blue book spell "Create Statue" to make "Give life to the Statue" for an ice-golumn spell. But if we are wrong (as represented by a low role), it could instead come out as "Death to the statue" and instead just make a statue that melts. Carving runes on material gives them no special properties-a gun with a fire shooting spell on it will only shoot bullets unless someone makes the correct hand gestures while holding it. The books we research effectively give us a higher tech level in their related field-if we tried raising an Earth golum in the previous example instead we could still do it despite not having an Earth focused book, it would just be much harder. (Lore wise, we would be trying to make an incredibly long string of words to get the same meaning. So if you were trying to do necromancy with a fire book, you might write "Raise the thing that had just been burned to ash", which is naturally much worse than "Raise the Dead")

I'm kinda tired, but that is what I remember. Grammar is probably a bit off.

Sorry about the professors thing---I feel your pain.
Um, the spoilers appear to be messed up---BATMAN doesn't appear to be included, and the Equipment spoiler is also not up-to-date.

So, one design for one rune (To give us an 'average difficulty' sort of design)/spell?\
Anyway, I think it's time to put this stuff to use.

Judicious Employment of Deadly Immolation and Immobilization
Taking all our knowledge of magic and condensing it back into a single small-sized tome of deadly knowledge called 'JEDI' was a genius step. The 'wizards' who utilize these books are trained only in the fire and ice sections. Ice first, followed by fire, in order of 'What damage can be reversed easiest and cheapest'. No soldiers have yet been taught how to use necromancy---doing so might endanger the use of Excalibur. Also, Public Relations almost went into open revolt at the mention of the possibility.

What is the viability of deploying our black spellbook as-is?

Necromancy is good. It takes the unsavoury practice of living, with all the wasteful energy expenditure and unsustainable processes that entails, and replaces it with a low-impact alternative.

Helpful Ice-Kin Employment
A spell that produces a water-filled ice statue that has an instinctual desire to build and organise, or perhaps more succinctly, an aversion to things being other than their intended state. With this spell, we can produce an effectively free workforce, which in turn will allow us to expand our production facilities without the usual workforce-related overhead-costs. Hopefully this can reduce the costs of manufacturing equipment and provide experience with magical minions.

Fire-Water Infection Beam
A magic glove that emits a beam by pointing. This beam imbues the region with trace amounts of alcohol. This can rapidly inflict lethal alcohol poisoning, and can also cause elevated flammability and combustion rates in an area if the beam strikes it for an extended period of time.

death Combustion Ice
Summons ice capsules that, when eaten, "consume" the symptoms of lethal conditions, with the effect of suppressing them.

Fireflies
A square metal tablet that can be activated to cause a flying fire creature to be spawned, which will promptly fly forwards(relative to the tablet) until it travels beyond a set range or encounters an undead. Upon detecting undead, it flies at them and expends all its energy into combustion.

Oh wait, we do still have a black spellbook, don't we? I'd say 'not great' because it's necromantic in origin and EXCALIBUR MUST BE USED ALONGSIDE GOOD PEOPLE.

Or so I assume. Also, what happens if utilizing such magic has...side effects? We might be in a BAD place if that happens. That said, I'm thinking about spending some time working in healing magic---if we can make a 'resurrection' spell, we'd be set for, well, life.

Yeah, I could never figure out how necromancy got such a bad rep, considering it's literally the cure for death.  :P

Directed Interference with External Application to General Assailants of Identified Necrosis
This project was designed two-fold, utilizing our combined knowledge of necromancy and sharp objects. DIEAGAIN is a spell designed to nullify necromantic energies upon deep and prolonged contact. This spell is inscribed upon a sturdy and wide combat knife. The rune is activated before the attack by the user, and for the period of activation it becomes invoked with magic designed to deconstruct the necromantic spells we have come to know from our studies into the subject. The method by which this is done is rather simple: The soldier stabs something that isn't dead but should be. The magic stored in the invoked rune is then released through deep contact, nullifying the spell that brought the target creature to life.

We'll probably need to burn through a few 'live' zombies for testing purposes, but hey, if this works out that means we can use necromancy without actually using necromancy.

We can't do that, Hibou. We don't understand enough yet to make it worthwhile.

Far better will be the deployment of rudimentary magic in combat, so we can figure out what needs to be done.

You can bring it if you want.

It might end up being a bad idea, but you can send in whatever items you want.

Well, guess there's nothing left to do than start the voting.

I've added Hibou's on the assumption he wants it enough to vote for it, but not RAM's, because none of them can be assumed to have his vote. Also, none of RAM's have cool enough acronyms.
