You explain that it would not be a good time for splitting leadership.  The words "need a strong leader" and "poor group decision making" may have been said.  You put off electing a leader for another year.

"Well, not that the response surprised me, but..."

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

"some of us already took a vote." she states coldly "If you responded that way it confirms our fears and we will be leaving to somewhere else.  We are fed up with the terrible conditions (what?), lack of response to our problems (what?) and the way your soldiers have been lording it over us (what?!?!)."

"We are taking ourselves, and supplies, and leaving when spring comes.  Maybe get to a safe zone run by legitimate military forces."

You respond with:
A. Fine, Democracy.
B. Fine, Leave.
C. You can leave but not with MY supplies.
D. No one leaves the underground.
E. We can address the problems, really, just give me another chance.

You explain that you did not know there were such strong feelings about the current state of the group and that things would improve soon.  Derval seems to ponder this for a bit and then explains that it will take some time, maybe even a year, to get everything together and make a good plan to go somewhere else.  If things look up in the meantime, maybe they will stay.

Well that could have gone better.

Year 1, 1st quarter

An early spring and higher spirits help to get the new year off to a good start.  You hope it is not just people working hard to leave...

Survivors: 2
Morale: 2
Supplies: 5
Defenses: 4

You burned through some supplies, but the good news from the larger world has cheered people up.  There are also multiple barricades now protecting you from whatever is out there and a better understanding of the tunnel systems.

Your second in command, Valda, asks if they should get some more weapons or learn about the monsters while one of the former police notes that in private there is still a lot of griping about the conditions.

Valda has been invaluable over the past year and seems ready to take on some of her own responsibilities.  She could spearhead an operation for you or keep assisting you.

Choose 2 or the same one twice for a bonus:
A: Let's get to gardening.
B: Seek out the monsters and weirdness to learn things !
C: Explore the nearby police station for weapons and survivors !
D: Scout out nearby areas and maybe a new base of operations.
E: We have some supplies, let's fix up the underground areas and make it more livable.

Sustaining food supply and ensuring a happy populace is a more immediate concern, in my opinion.

Work begins on sprucing up some of the rooms used by your group.  A coat of paint, a few more beds and some sheets and plywood as room separators goes a long way to make the living areas more comfortable.

Two small community gardens and a park are selected due to proximity to good exits.  First, the orange whatever is removed with shovels, burned, the area they were on is burned, then the shovels are burned for good measure.  Several hearty roots, beans and vegetables are selected along with a few berry bushes.  Regular trips to remove weeds and look over the progress are scheduled, with an armed escort.

Year 1, 2nd quarter

The team looking over the western garden has not reported back on time.  By a day.  The emergency handheld radios get no responses.   Valda was on the patrol, but there were also several members of the disgruntled group of civilians.

How do you respond to this?

A. Bar the doors nearby and mark the western garden area off the map as dangerous.
B. Lead a mission to find the late patrol.
C. Wait, Valda will get her people through.
D. Question Derval, this must be the start of a coup or escape attempt!

Congratulation, Commander Edda has embarked on an expedition.

The goal is to find and return with the missing patrol, or find out what happened, before running out of supplies or soldiers.

Who are you taking with you?

A. Most of the soldiers.
B. Useful civilians who have gone out with the patrols before.
C. Soldiers and Civilians.
D. No extra personnel, keep the group small.

Where are you exiting the Underground?

A. Where the lost patrol exited.
B. Close to the western garden, but a different exit.
C. A guarded exit, but further from the garden.
