The green light is still cast over the street as you emerge despite the clear sky and sun just breaking over the horizon.  The contrast of blue, black and green is unnerving, just as your patrols had described to you.  A few soldiers will be manning the exit, ready to open it back up if, no when, when you return.

Mood: Unnerving

What is your plan to find the missing patrol?

A. Search the route to the garden.
B. Travel to the garden as quickly as possible.
C. Use a secondary path, shadowing the normal way.

You split the group into two squads.  They advance down the street one at a time, with one covering and watching out as the other advances.  Your constant refrain to always maintain line of sight to each other seems to have sunk home.

The other team is the first to spot something and call you over to see it.  You recognize Peer, a young local policeman, from his well worn red Nikes and bright blue socks.  No one else in the city would still be in a police uniform with such unusual footwear but he insisted they were his lucky pair.  It is lucky for you, as identifying him otherwise would have taken a skilled coroner.

The face is mangled beyond all recognition, like it was mauled and eaten by an animal.  Both arms are ruins of cut up flesh and his torso is covered in what look like stab wounds.

There are no other bodies around but a clear line of moved debris moves away from the scene, down towards the garden.

The most significant find though is another one of those orange mounds.  Most of them are large and stuck to the streets and walls or small growths on plants, but this one is different.  Attached to a table outside what was a cafe it looks hollow and torn apart at one end.

Like something ripped itself out" someone commented.

You call the other team over to give new orders when one of them shouts something you do not understand in German, probably a curse of some kind.  Running towards the group is some kind of person?

No, it was a person but the mouth full of teeth cut vertically down the face, bloated orange skin and arms ending in two bone blades each is not a person.  You barely have time to register it has a coat covered in blood on before your team opens fire.

It closes the distance far faster then you expected.  You get two shots off, one to the chest and one to the head, but the thing keeps running forward and leaps onto one of your men.  It seamlessly stabs the bone spikes into the man's side as everyone else opens fire.  They both start screaming.

The training you have been having them do pays off as twenty bullets strike home without hitting the man it is grappling with and the thing slumps to the ground.

Medical attention is paid to the victim and it looks like he is seriously wounded but no major organs were hit.  A quick look over the creature shows what the first glance did.  A face full of teeth in a mouth that goes from the top of the skull down to split the chin, two long bone blades projecting out of the base of what was the elbow.  Human clothing covered in human blood and bits of flesh.  And awful bloated orange tinted skin.  Both eyes look like they were torn out.

It was human once and the thing is still twitching a bit.

The sound of gunshots may have alerted the enemy and your troops are freaking a bit out.  Also what to do about the man who was stabbed.

Mood: freaked out

You order the party to:
A. Follow the trail left in the debris.
B. Examine the monstrous corpse a bit more.
C. Find a nearby building that looks secure enough to hold up in.
D. Move away as quickly as possible back towards the entrance you just left.

For the wounded man:
1. Order him to keep going.
2. Have him head back to the underground with an escort.
3. Have others carry him with you.
4. Execute him, who knows what he is infected with now.

For the mutant corpse:
!. Leave it be.
@. Cut it up.
#. Burn it.
$. Both.
