I don't trust the current design of the Thunderbird -- the description of those jet engines running as destructively hot as they do with the engines as incapable of handling it as they are makes me worry that our planes are going to burn out in the sky or even catch aflame, which would obviously be pretty bad. I think that trying to make the engines not Complex is a bit of an ambitious leap, and I would rather improve the performance and reliability of the craft itself this turn.

Hmm.
Re-reading the design description, it looks like the reason the engines are [Complex] is due to the maintenance required, not the initial construction.
Quote
Right now, the engines are [Complex] and require frequent maintenance.
So really, the only way of getting rid of the [Complex] tag would be to reduce the amount of maintenance required, which means improving the performance.
So... it may be Hard, but I'm willing to risk going for the aT-J03.
Although I could be convinced to go for better parachutes as well.

...you know, the Reckless carries 4 tons.

The Salamander weighs between 8-14 tons.

Sensei explicitly said the Salamander fits inside the Reckless.

Just sayin'.

UF-FT40 "Conflagrator"

An improved version of the old incinerator flamethrower. It has a lighter, higher pressure tank made from modern alloys and the nozzle has been optimized to reduce turbulence and increase range from 10m to 30m. Additionally, the flamethrower nozzle can attach to the bottom of a MC16A giving the the user the ability to defend himself and contribute in a conventional firefight.

based on A Finnish weapon that may or may not have actually been used.

(Sorry I didn't realize it was a double post)

To support ground combat revisions, I'm changing my vote to the new flamethrower, because our flamethrowers are one of the things that are repeatedly stated to give us a Jungle advantage, even though ours is way outdated by current standards (range of only 8 metres). The above flamethrower merely upgrades to 1935 range standards (the FmW 35 was in service then), while napalm was invented two years from now, in mid-1942. I'm still not a fan of the under-barrel option, though.

P.S. reading about napalm on Wikipedia has convinced me this thing is Evil with a capital E.

Voting for the flamethrower. We need to remain competent in our best advantage. We don't want the same thing that happened with the carrier to happen here.

You should really look to the wilderness for your stealth ideas, it has been doing it much longer than you have after all. Take squids for example, that ink trick works pretty well, and in water too! So you just sneak into the dam upsteam, dump several megatons of distressed squid into it, then break the dam. Boom, you suddenly have enough water-proof stealth for a whole city!

My mistake with the napalm. Changed it back to ordinary fuel. Also increased range to actually modern levels.

UFS-AR-1940-A 'Warden'
An assault rifle cambered in a brand new 6.5mmx40mm round. The new round offers better ballistic performance and lower recoil at the cost of a modest decrease in killing power.  It's a gas powered closed bolt action with 4 rotating locking lug and quick-swap barrels. The guns is designed for paratrooper use with both a folding stock and foregrip. The foregrip can be folded down for use as a normal rifle grip. The tension spring is wrapped around the barrel rather then a compression spring behind the bolt. The tension spring helps to shorten the gun without some of the more glaring flaws of a bullpup. The rifle comes with 30 round box mags that are slightly curved and a top rail for mounting scopes.

This should notably improve our paratroopers and be a better rifle to have in the jungle. For the jet engine we should spend our next design on it. With luck we can both remove the complex tag and increase it's overall power.
