I find it difficult to believe the sides aren't balanced.  After all, we got a research credit from America not too long ago, and they did develop a Nuclear Bomb first.  They have plenty of research tech, and the fact that they're offering a "less powerful" bonus up front could mean they are better in the long run.

We really don't need cheap right now, we need better research. The choices the Axis made IRL don't make a huge difference to me. This is just another game of Hearts of Iron.

Who knows, it could still be avoided!

That said, I am not throwing my nation under Cannala rule just for OOC meta. I will pick what gets us bigger chances to survive. Failing that, I'll pick who can still provide good help. Allies, however? they offer nothing. And we don't have that much good history with them anyway.
