Well, here's what we got via revisions that doesn't require the CAF to be useful:
1.) We have
much better knowledge of aerodynamics. This isn't
explicitly stated, but it tends to be necessary to have "derived the best aerodynamic shapes" for projectiles. Before our knowledge was pretty much "if we make it pointed it moves faster".
2.) Explicitly stated greatly increased precision over crystal manufacture. We prooobably got this because evicted felt sorry for us.
Anyways. Have some designs!
Design: ASAF-B49 "Firestorm"The B49 is the first true bomber.
Based off of both the Valkyrie and the Lightning, the B49 is equipped with a single 13mm ((or whatever the AS-HAC-1 default caliber is) AS-HAC-1 pneumatics ball turret and the pilot. Much like the Lightning, though with the turret downscaled to reduce weight.
Underneath and to the side of the Reactor lies the Bomb Bay. Filled with as many Blastshells as we can fit (which should be a lot, considering the entire point of the B49), each one hooked up to a simple mount. The bomb bay has a single lower pneumatics-powered door that opens to expose the Blastshells, allowing for secure containment.
The Cockpit is equipped with a bombing guiding target to help the pilot estimate the potential impact sites of the Blastshells from high altitudes. Which will be needed.
Now, as it stands, the B49 is nothing more than a slightly-revised Lightning. But in order to facilitate its purpose, it needs to be very high-up. Far greater than Moskurger craft and even our Lightning. As such, the Firestorm has a system to aid with this: The Atmospheric Regulator Circuitry; the ARC.
The ARC is a straightforward circuit. Take our cooling circuitry's methods to monitor the environment and general "passiveness" and combine it with our mastery over Fireballs/Blastballs. The Fireball and all its variants work by summoning gas, so we can simply take out the "ignite" part of the spell and modify the gas mix to our pleasing. This gas mix being the mix needed to replicate standard atmospheric conditions. It's set to "maintain" the closed environment at a certain gas mix, much like our cooling circuits do.
The ARC is placed not only inside the cockpit and ball turret, but also is implemented within the KPD. The KPD is known to lose effectiveness as the craft goes up higher. We predict this is due to the thinning atmosphere. So by strategic use of the ARC, we can create the right conditions for the KPD to operate as high up as it wants. Of course the Firestorm shouldn't go too high up as targeting quickly becomes impossible up there, but it can go as high as it needs.
Body - Basically just the Lightning's base body minus the added bomb bay.
Turret - Retains the Lightning's turret, though it goes back to the AS-HAC-1 13mm instead of 20mm to save a bit of weight and since it's just for self-defense.
Bomb Bay - A
large bomb bay with a pneumatics door on the bottom contains as many Blastshells (which should be
a lot) as possible. Each Blastshell on a mount.
Bombing Sights - Self-explanatory. To help aim the bombs at high alttitudes.
ARC - We have cooling circuitry. We've mastered Fireball + its variants. Fireball is ultimately just summoning, igniting, and throwing a ball of gas. Instead, we just find a way to maintain a specific gas mix in a specific area.
- Cabin - Put the ARC in the cockpit + ball turret to allow for breathing at any altitude.
- KPD - Integrate the ARC in the KPD to compensate the effects of a thinning atmosphere on the KPD, thus eliminating the altitude ceiling and allowing the B49 to go as high as it needs to go.
TL;DR: A high-altitude bomber.
Design: ASN-C49 "Triton"The C49, the C standing for "Carrier", symbolizes a new kind of naval warfare.
Lately, the state of naval battles has been left up only to the aircraft. So instead of fighting the status quo, why not embrace it? The Triton is designed specifically for this new avenue of warfare.
The C49 Triton is our biggest vessel yet, taking serious advantage of the Crystalworks Mk. 2 and the new advances in manufacturing complexity recently acquired. It easily dwarfs a Crystalclad in size.
The Triton contains two pneumatics-powered 20mm cannons for self-defense. A single Aether Reactor inside the vessel powers the weaponry and the below-deck Internal Detonation Engine.
We've created a "Bridge" to command and control the vessel from. The Bridge is on the back of the craft, as a stubby armored crystal tower, adorned with crystal glass. The entire ship is still very well-armored - either as armored or more armored than the Crystalclad.
However, that's all simple changes simply modernizing the vessel. The turrets are all strictly placed next to the edges and bridge, to maximize open space. The deck is nearly completely flat. The majority of space beneath the deck is large and open - a hangar, in a way. A single large pneumatic-powered lift is placed in the hangar to allow transport between the two.
Aircraft will be stored both in the hangar and on the top deck. Both Valkyries and Lightnings should be able to be transported by the C49 Triton. When needed, the craft can simply launch and land on the deck as needed ((And runway space isn't an issue since VTOL babyyy)). Both beneath and on deck, the craft can rearm and regenerate their crystal bodies.
The ship will store supplies for rearming the craft and sustaining the crew of both the vessel and the aircraft.
When in combat, the C49 Triton can simply scramble its interceptors instead of hoping its armor can last until a friendly aerial patrol encounters the battle. Battles can be quickly and decisively won. Supply missions and movement of goods and troops across the seas are easy to due the facilitation of Valkyries. Missions can last much longer as the craft can stay on board the C49 Triton to be used as needed and don't need to return to shore to exchange crew. We estimate huge impacts at sea.
We expect to order the Crystalclads to merely escort C49 Tritons to aid in anti-air and the occasional ship that wanders within HA1 range.
Armor - Similar or greater to/than the Crystalclad.
Bridge - A crystal glass raised bridge is present.
Turrets - Simple 2x 20mm pneumatics-powered turrets are placed on the craft for self-defense against nearby hostile aircraft and sea vessels.
Propulsion - An IDE propels the C49 Triton.
Power - Considering the weaker KPD
1 worked at 4 PSF-Cs/second and an IDE uses the much less powerful SPSF-Cs to operate, a single Aether Reactor should be able to handle the 2x 20mm turrets and IDE easily.
Flight Deck/Hangar - The top deck is designed specifically to facilitate takeoffs/landings and storage of aircraft. The deck below this one is primarily for storage of aircraft. Both Valkyries and Lightnings should be fine.
Pneumatic Lift - A pneumatics-powered lift connects the two decks for easy unpowered aircraft/storage transport between them. Low priority, since aircraft can just move between decks themselves since 100% VTOL.
TL;DR: We build a
better carrier than Forenia's first carrier in ICAR carrier. And it'll be
awesome.
Remember when we had steam engine paddleboats that struggled to carry just the steam engine itself?
@VoidSlayer: You're describing exactly the Seeker missiles. The other design I submitted that lost to the Valkyrie.
