You are a Planet [SG]
« on: March 17, 2017, 03:09:45 pm »

As in, a tabletop game where you're a small, cold, and incredibly common star?
Bah. Being a star is boring. Being a planet is so much better.
~~~
You are a planet. Not just any planet, though. You're sentient. But there's a lot more about yourself you're thinking about right now. For instance, what general category you fit into...
A: Gas Giant
B: Supermassive Rocky Planet
C: Earth-Size Rocky Planet
D: Dwarf Planet
E: Something else?
Your location...
A: Too close to your star!
B: In the Goldilocks Zone!
C: Too far away from your star!
D: Ridiculously far away from your star(outside Kuiper Belt equivalent, inside Oort Cloud equivalent)
E: Something else?
Among other things... ((next update))
C We're really far from the star, which doesn't explain the lava.
B: We are a supermassive rocky planet.
A: We are too close to our star.
Work on a potential forum game for my return to Bay12. Figure out parts that puzzled me before. Find more things to figure out that I can't. Work on another game instead of solving them. Get distracted and stop working. Remember it a week or two later. Remember I'm still on hiatus. Illogically, Be too ashamed to return yet. Repeat ad nauseam.
Finally have a game completely ready. Wait a week before posting it out of laziness.
Other:
Super-dense organo-crystalline (rocky w/ carbon, siliconoids, and/or metallics) exo-planet on a rogue trans-planar trajectory just beyond the threshold of a super-massive black hole in the center of some unknown galaxy.
Random explanation because that might come off as odd:
Formed from organic compounds and heavy elements deposited by stellar ejecta following the collapse of numerous local super-massive stars near the center of the galaxy, we were likely slingshotted from our parent system through a massive collision following a later sequence of nova events, during which we lost most of our soluble and fissile materials (liquids, gases, etc) - leaving behind a dense, solid core of metallics and organics more likely to survive the trek through the infinite abyss. Our particular composition allows us to retain some semblance of cohesiveness as we skate across the outskirts of a super-massive black hole at the center of an unknown galaxy. So long as we remain beyond a certain critical threshold, we wmay survive to live another eon.
...Go big or go home?
(Just to make sure you don't think I'm nuts, some Google Fu found something resembling the planetoid/dwarf inert star in question:
"The required mass for a star to begin thermonuclear fusion in its  core is roughly 1028−kg, or twenty times the size of  Jupiter. Once that happens, there will be enough mass for the core to ignite, providing there exists enough Hydrogen.
...Although in 2011, researchers found a planet composed entirely of "diamonds".  Because it was five times the size of Earth but with a mass of Jupiter, orbiting a Pulsar at only a distance of the radius of our Sun, of course it was giving off a specific pulse as seen in the plane of the Milky Way from Earth. At this size and close distance, making an orbit once every two hours, it couldn't be anything more than a former star that had been stripped of its layers by its companion pulsar. What was left over was a core of...you guessed it...crystalline carbon--the same exact material found in diamonds. When this binary pair was in the height of their days, the stronger star began siphoning off material, leaving the very dead, but glittering core.")
Points for awesomeness. Though your suggestion didn't win, you get a fist-sized diamond. Drop it wherever and whenever you like.
Ah, yes. You are a massive rocky planet... too close to your star. This doesn't make you happy. Relatively imminent doom doesn't much appeal to you.
Speaking of which, what is your star anyway?
A: Basically Sol
B: A pulsar
C: A white dwarf
D: A brown dwarf
E: A red giant
F: A blue giant
G: A red supergiant
H: A blue supergiant
I: A black hole
J: Something else?
K: A binary system(pick two others)
You do have some neighbors. Some focus brings the two you're jealous of and your companion to sight.
Your moon is...
A: A rocky moon.
B: A gaseous moon. A trail of gas is flowing from the moon to your atmosphere.
C: A captured asteroid.
D: You have a moon? No, you don't.
E: A volcanic moon.
F: An icy moon.
G: You have several moons, actually(pick two to four others).
H: Something else?
Ah, the other planets in your system. You're jealous of them because they don't have impending doom hanging over their heads. Bah.
Repeat twice:
Your enemy is...
A: Gas Giant
B: Supermassive Rocky Planet
C: Earth-Size Rocky Planet
D: Dwarf Planet
E: Something else?
How close are they to you... they look...
A: Pretty close, actually. They're doomed just as much as you are. They just have a tad bit more time to live than you do.
B: Some distance away. A stable orbit.
C: Far, far away... outer orbits.
D: Far, far... far, far... far away(close to Oort Cloud equivalent).
You have two enemies, not one. Unless you mean for both of them to be C and A?
G: You have several moons, actually(1) gaseous moon-B (2) volcanic moon-E (3) captured body of unknown origin (4) icy moon-F / nearest to farthest in order of distance. Volcanic moon's heat creates the gaseous moon's vapor trail, icy moon is way out in westbumblefark, and an odd captured body floats somewhere just beyond our perception.).
Ah, the other planets in your system. You're jealous of them because they don't have impending doom hanging over their heads. Bah.
Repeat twice:
Your enemy is...
A: Gas Giant - We are jealous of their fancy swirls. Damn hippies.
D: Dwarf Planet Small but hardy - likely to survive what we would not. Rage!
How close are they to you... they look...
A: Pretty close, actually. They're doomed just as much as you are. They just have a tad bit more time to live than you do. - all the better to steal borrow their momentum and escape this apocalyptic dump! If it plays nice, maybe we can drag the little one off with us as a 5th moon. We'll see.
