The pursuit goes poorly. Their cavalry screens the retreat quite capably, even going so far as to inflict minor casualties on the somewhat disorganised pursuers.

What captives you do have are given the difficult choice: join the person who burnt their home, or join their home in death.

They overwhelmingly choose death, spitting defiance at you till the very end. Hearing their berations even seems to have an effect on your own men, who seem shaken, and somewhat guilty.
Not so much that they hesitate when executing the captives, but still.

Now you must choose; to set off in pursuit of the retreating army, in an attempt to defeat this land's defenders once and for all, or to continue homewards? Some commanders suggest the latter, citing the tiredness of the men after this eventful campaign, whilst others council that absolute aggression is the only way.

A-We shall kill them all, and take these lands for ourselves!
B-Nah, we've done enough.
