It also seems to be worse with the initial stone pick than with later ones.

I'm wondering, since your character write-up was pretty good, if you are or plan on being an RPPvP server?

Yes, we are a RP-RP server. That is the term I use in the banner:

(RP-PvP) Fleetwood - Bldg Dmg Off, Player Dmg On
Address: 108.61.124.68:24000

What does RP-PvP mean? Make sure your actions have a reason. I think the basic expectation is no (or few) random acts of violence. We have had 22 players come by in the last 5 days, and so far that's been true. I expect there to be a little random violence, since I cannot control all of the people that join, but so far the overall tone is of cooperation. As we move to higher level lands there might be more competition.

I want the competition to have a reason. Clan vs clan is fine, or religion vs religion, or "hey you took those nodes - I challenge you to an honor fight". "WTF LOL ZERG CHARGE BLARRRRRRH" because you are bored is not cool.

I have a light hand as an admin, so far I have done nothing. I want to do nothing. If someone is being disruptive then I will warn them, if they keep it up they get kicked. That's disruptive out of game, like personal attacks on global chat, etc. My goal is to kick no-one.

You are welcome to join us. :-)

Looks like you can't have decent amounts of hides until you hit level 15 and build up an entire iron industry. That's... annoying. I otherwise get maybe one hide from the animals I can take on with my stone-age gear. I can actually take on hyenas... one at a time, and hopefully get a hyena pelt(which turns into 2 hides). The problem is that a single piece of light armor requires dozens of hides.

I got the hide for my first set of light armor from a few of the small exile camps along the south side of the south river.  Pretty easy fights with stone gear.  Also I'm not talking about looting hides.

Each stage is designed to be a bit of an ordeal the first time, and much easier once you get past it. If you get frustrated, ask others for help; I'm sure someone would be happy to craft you a butchering knife, or lend you the use of their blacksmith forge so you can craft your own. You can also commonly find lots of next-tier materials in the loot boxes around savage camps.

Public Fleetwood server players:

I turned on building decay. It was off by accident because of how I set the "no damage to buildings" setting. Decay is important for example to keep small unattached foundations from claiming a radius forever. To understand how decay works hover over things with a repair hammer. It resets when you are close to your buildings, which is good.

HOWEVER this caused some things to instantly decay. This is bad. We lost ALL temples, many crafting stations and many doors. I have replaced the doors I am aware of. I am working to replace my personal crafting stations now. I lost stuff. You will have lost stuff.

It sucks to make a change and lose progress, however we needed decay turned on. My apologies for any wasted time.

I was pretty upset at losing all the workstations in the outpost I spent all day building, including a Wheel with 3 thralls in it. But using what I learned, I was able to rebuild in half the time, and much better than last time, so I guess it worked out well enough.

Yeah, we have re-built back to where we were. Learning about decay and continuous foundations has been super useful. This "iron-stone" settlement is a learning experience. We will eventually have to move on to more lucrative lands, and the next settlement will likely encounter some tough Purges so this building / defensive practice has been useful.

I was looking for a site to establish a second, more permanent base(ready access to iron and water). I was exploring east along the big river, then coming back around. On a plateau that looked like it'd make a good place for building, I found a natural rock chimney, and what looked like iron rocks at its base.

They weren't. They were spider eggs. I peeked around the rock chimney and saw... a giant spider. And by "giant spider", I mean relative to other spiders; while the normally encountered spiders are the size of big dogs, this one was the size of a main battle tank. Yeahhhno.

EDIT: Started a second home, this time on a plateau south of the Weaver's Den dungeon, near the Unnamed City. Pretty good place, there's decent amounts of iron and coal nearby, plus it's not too far from the river where I can also get wood. Only threats are a hyena spawn nearby, and the occasional aggressive kudu. Might be a bug, but the battle music doesn't play when a kudu attacks.

Here are some stats after running a public Conan Exiles server for one week.

We have seen 22 unique players come through and spend more than one hour on the server. A few more played less than an hour and left. About 75% of those 22 people are from my own gaming group, QT3 or Bay12 - the other 25% are random. There are two formal clans on the server, made up of about 14 people total, so the other 8 are unaffiliated.

14 players have spent more than 10 hours on the server in a week. We are all around level 20 to 30.

I am not aware of any griefing or antisocial behavior. There have been a few in-game incidents of hostilities, which are being dealt with in-game (honor duels, etc). Overall for a public server everyone has been “well behaved”, which I think is a function of the groups that have joined.

The server has been rock solid, zero crashes. It has a scheduled reboot every day at 4am EST. I made one admin error this week, fixing a setting that should have been enabled at the start, and thankfully I never have to change it again.

I'm loving this game and server so far.
However, I do really wish I had a clan to share this with. None of the major clans seem inclined to recruit new members. So if any of the other unaffiliated people decide to team up and start something, please let me know!

I offered day 1 if you wanted to team up or what ever Folly.  Tower Hermits could always use more hermits.

Edit: And that goes for anyone else.  If your looking for a group that doesn't care about being a group then why not join Tower Hermits.  Towers can be provided.

Built a shrine, then closed the game. Opened the game again, and the shrine is gone.
