For the most part, I think pretty much all of Trump's voter base actually has a pretty good standard of living, it doesn't make sense for them to be hateful without real suffering in their lives.

You gotta remember, Trump's voter base:

-Thinks God wants them to be rich.

Fuck the Prosperity Gospel. I swear half of our ills come directly from it.

Wasn't the point of Christianity (and... uh... all religions...) that your fortunes and pains in the mortal life are irrelevant, acting only as preparation for the afterlife? And how the wealthy can't get into heaven any more than a camel can fit through the eye of a needle and all that?

*never actually read the Bible, so who knows maybe Jesus actually sang "For the Love of Money" and the O'Jays were just doing their own cover of that*
The Prosperity Gospel is literally Capitalism but repackaged for Protestants.

As opposed to a primary in which voters cast ballots in the same way they would for a general election, Iowa's caucuses are social affairs; caucusgoers gather in person and pledge their support for a candidate by physically "standing in their corner" in designated parts of a room.

I reiterate, what the shit?

Go listen to 538's "Primary Project" series. It's only 3 episodes and it's good info. I haven't listened to the last one, so I'm not sure what conclusions they'll draw. (Supposedly they ask if there's a better system we could use.) But the first especially is a good history lesson on why we have the systems we have today and how, even flawed, it's still better than the system we had before.
sluissa, just because our current system is less shit than previous ones (and that is somewhat debatable), it doesn't mean that it is not shit that we should leave behind.

Propaganda does work, so please be aware of it.

When did I ever fucking say that? When? I offered it up as a history lesson only because it covered a topic that is hard to study. I know, I've attempted to find the info in the past, and while there's some out there, it's not a simple and quick wikipedia article. Where the info exists in any form beyond a very basic glossing over of highlights like the 1968 democratic convention, it's distributed and hard to piece together. Most of the easy to find info out there is only describing the current system and barely, or doesn't cover anything about how it used to work.

I hate the current system, I think it needs to be changed, but it's a far sight better than the shit that used to go on.

It sounded a lot like stuff I unfortunately see repeated over an' over.

So, sorry.

Gotta love how "Biden put his son into the Ukranian Oil Company leadership and that's worse that anything Trump's ever done" is just sitting there right next to "It's ok for Trump to put his family in high positions they aren't qualified for in the US government."

Being on the board of a foreign company is a bit different from taking a US government position. There's potential for a foreign entity to buy US policy with the Biden situation.

Trump's family made themselves rich before going into politics. Jared Kushner resigned as CEO of Kushner Companies to become the Senior Advisor of Strategic Planning (whatever that is.) Ivanka Trump is in charge Women's Issues Policy. I'm not sure how much either of those actually pay, if at all. (Edit: Ivanka claims to be an unpaid employee.) I guess there's potential for Kushner to profit off of policy he sets, but I'm not sure how Ivanka could profit from hers.

"Women's Issues Policy" sounds a bit like she's in control of the big lever that handles feminine matters every month.

The Prosperity Gospel is literally Capitalism but repackaged for Protestants.

Sorry, goes to show that I'm actually quite ignorant, I had no clue the Prosperity Gospel was even a thing. Though it seems to me that the throughline is envy and greed, both sins, both unpleasant to feel, and both inherently insatiable. I didn't grow up with any background of religion, so I just assumed that if someone were religious it would be to satisfy intangible needs related to one's spirit, or for the community, or for actual self-betterment for life and the afterlife. I was too naive there, of course people would just view it as another avenue towards the superficial and materialistic things in life.

Don’t blame yourself, religions like to advertise themselves like tools to better the world. I used to like religions until I unveiled the mask and saw what it truly was. Sometimes people within religions have a hard time seeing through the facade

I don't really think it's fair to accuse all religious people of being motivated by superficial things. You could look at persecuted or poverty-vowing communities for proof on that.

I understand people in the religion can be motivated by bettering the world, the mask and facade I am mentioning is the reason the religion was created in the first place, to control people. I understand people join them for various reasons.

There's a very obnoxious Prosperity Gospel "preacher" that comes on late at night that lots of my old people watch.

Insists that he needs a minimum donation (ahem, "seed") of 1000$, and that this is not too much, and that jesus will reward you for the size of your seed--

He's a motherfucker that needs to be struck by lightning.

Ahh-- Here he is.

And this is perfectly legal.

Not exactly.

The money changers DID get admonished and their asses kicked, for defiling the temple for cash.

BUT, the service they offered was currency exchange.  Not "Give me money so god can help you. (I Need at least 2 gold deben)"

Selling appropriate sacrificial animals (doves, blemish-free sheep, etc...) was a common occurrence at the temple, and people came from all over to do the ritual sacrifice each year.  The problem was that these transactions were only done in local currency, and people from distant provinces or nations would come, and had foreign money.  The money changers would exchange the foreign currency, at a surcharge.

That they had set up shop right there in the temple made jesus very angry.

I am fairly certain that Jesus would be more angry at the prosperity gospel fuckwit I linked to.  Jesus was very adamant that the message and blessings he gives/gave ARE FREE OF CHARGE.  You just have to ask for it. (literally, salvation by faith.)

The kind of perversion this dickhole is peddling is not faith in jesus-- it's faith in venturing money.  It's supernatural gambling, in a casino with a 0% cashout rate.

Money buys absolution.
If you wish for it hard enough, it still won't be true.

Nowhere does he say that this is for salvation;  It's literally "If you give me money (which I won't give back, see timestamp 4:53sec for my disclaimer), at least 1000$, Then JESUS will bless you (maybe. Again, see disclaimer), and send you even more money than you sent me. Honest!"

I stand by the "Casino with 0% payout" statement.

Jesus?  He said " He who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live."

Nope. No money involved there.  None at all.  RAISED THE FUCKING DEAD-- FOR FREE.

(In fact, the guy who wanted to buy access to the holy spirit was condemned for it.)

Shit, I am a freaking apostate agnostic, and I am a better preacher than that fuckwit is.

The resident soapbox bible thumper agrees with this assessment. Here's Jesus' specific thoughts on the matter of the super rich. For context, a rich guy came up to him and was like, hey, I want in on some of this salvation and heaven stuff, what do I do? And Jesus was like "Sell all your stuff and give it to the poor". The guy just sort of left.

Matthew 19:24
"Again I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for someone who is rich to enter the kingdom of God."

Also, go Google Creflo Dollar for an education in the kind of scummy bullshit that's associated with the Prosperity Gospel. That's what the man actually changed his name to, no joke.
