Great news for Bernie Sanders fans and those who agree that the Superdelegates need to be reduced in power, the DNC has voted to greatly reduce the role of superdelegates. Now, they'll only come into play during the convention if the convention goes to a second round or tiebreaker.

IMO, they should get rid of superdelegates entirely, but it's a middle ground that works for me as it still removes them from the primary proccess.

McCain is dead.

Long live McCain!

‘cause I am that level of bastard, though I’m only doing it ‘cause “McCain” kinda sorta sounds like “the king”.

He managed to be a Republican without being a total dick.  :P

But more seriously, he was one of relatively few on the right who held the moral fiber to stand up to his own party.

Except he basically didn't. Times he actually stopped moving in lockstep was real damn rare. Bit more willing to talk crossways the party and play up the maverick bullshit, but talk was about it barring few exception.

Guy talked a better game than a good bit of his party in some ways, but he was still pretty staunchly GOP with all that entailed. Folks would be pretty well served not to forget that just 'cause he died pretty horribly and had some memorable moments of pageantry and just-friggin'-barely-existent attacks of something vaguely resembling conscience.

Well, his politics aside, he resisted considerable torture in Vietnam and also earned a bunch of medals, so that's probably praiseworthy.

I saw!

This is actually a pretty good deal.  The super-delegates exist as a bullwark against a populist nutjob getting the nomination (like Trump). That is their intended function, and this works well, without directly undermining democracy, like the whole Hillary vs Sanders thing was.

Maybe sanders will run again this season?

Fair enough. As a veteran and a POW, and as human being, he's a decent person. But he was by no means a maverick or a moderate.

Aye. Good person, didn't like his politics. One can do both.

I saw an exceptionally poor-taste comment someone made regarding his passing that I have to admit giggling at, because I am a terrible person.

...That is awful. But kinda funny.

But yes. John McCain, while definitely a Republican with very questionable politics (at least for most of the people in this thread), was at least respectable in a lot of ways most other Republican representatives aren't. If we want to heal this giant political divide without things coming down to a civil war and death camps for ancaps, we need to start by being able and willing to respect the other side where it's due, and McCain's definitely earned his due of respect, for Vietnam and buggering Trump, if nothing else. McCain probably still qualifies as Lawful Evil, but he was at least the respectable sort of Devil who makes sure to honor his word and contracts for peoples souls and keeps the worst punishments for other evil bastards like Hitler.

When the Devil's got a point you give it to him or become him.
