Well damn, that's unexpected. And those numbers are still rising? 50 dead and 400 wounded, this is already well past the Boston Bombing in terms of death and injury count. So he just was up there laying down fire on a crowd? This is, like, the actual worst-case-scenario for active shooter situations, the situation that everyone worries is happening or might happen.

Fuck guys, can we go back to telling terrorists and other mass-murderers that they need to use a bomb or it doesn't count? Recently they've hit onto the idea that killing people is actually really easy and that you don't need to spend months planning some poorly-thought-out bomb attack, and that's pretty fucking concerning. Bombs tend to be much less deadly when done poorly (and almost every wannabe murderer does it poorly, statistically speaking), and much easier to catch ahead of time then someone deciding "Hey, I just realized I can kill people with what is easily available, why not use that?" (whether it's a car, or whatever gun this guy was using).

It turns out that someone faked the screencaps of a "liberal" twitter account cheering the shootings. But the account doesn't exist when you search for it, or it's been deleted already. Also, the account in the screencap condemning the statement is also not a real account.

And thus the standard Republican response to white people committing gun crime begins:

1. Thoughts and prayers to all affected by "this terrible tragedy." See, when a brown person kills someone, it's a crime and an act of terror and must be stopped. When the shooter looks Republican, it's a senseless tragedy, like bullets just magically appeared out of the sky, and all we can do is sympathize.
2. Use the phrase "lone wolf", endlessly, to dismiss any concern that this is a systemic problem. Nope, just one guy, nothing to fix here.
3. Claim it wouldn't have been as bad if everyone in the vicinity had guns. Dismiss all criticism of this logic as "scoring political points in the midst of this tragedy(see 1)."
4. Demand better mental health care while refusing to fund it.

I meant I hope the shooter turns out to be hardcore conservative, and I saw the bit about the account being faked before you moved it to a new post. No surprise that a conspiracist used a faked image to push his own narrative.

The language they're using regarding the girl he's connected with ("companion", "roommate") suggests to me that she might be a sex worker, which while illegal in Las Vegas is legal in the rest of Nevada and is highly prolific within the city anyway. Not sure if this is related to the shooting itself, but it is the only detail to have been released.

I doubt it, because the woman in question is 62 years old. I mean it's not impossible, but a 64 year old man who lives in a nursing home who's gone into the city to hire a sex worker isn't necessarily going to hire a 62 year old woman.

It's the only concrete detail that they have I think, at least the only thing they are willing to release, the shooter had no police record and they haven't found anything yet on social media that would hint towards motive. Still early in the investigation.

Apparently she hasn't been in the USA for several years, but used to worked in Vegas at one of the casinos. The guy used her ID to book the hotel room. So ex-girlfriend perhaps? Maybe he had some of her stuff left around when she left the country?

They're opportunists, you know that, and theres no indication so far of any overseas terrorist link. They'd love to claim to have done a mass shooting of any western anyway.
