The KDP didn't have much besides hate and murder for the nazis, though. Ain't no homage to the latter in that flag.

... now, what I want to know. Is wherever that's circulating actually saying the communist party of germany became the national socialist one? Because if so that's a holy shit level of history check fail, heh.

I'd guess it'd probably be a conflation between communism and socialism since the line of thinking pushed by some politicians in the US is socialist=communist when it's really not. Communism is a form of socialism/marxism, but not all socialists/marxists are communists.

There's a much stronger case that the KKK is the "paramilitary wing," to use the term from that meme, of the republican party, than there is Antifa is associated with anything. Aside from the fact that Antifa hates Democrats about as much as they hate anybody.

My rejoinder to the standard derping point of "Nazis were socialists! It says so right in their name!" is "Then explain the Democratic People's Republic of Korea."

Half the time they think that's South Korea anyways. 🙄

The real relationship of Nazism and fascism in general to the left is best exemplified by the fate of Gregor Strasser, founder of the Strasserite ideology. He was highly against capitalism, because he saw it as the instrument of Jewish dominion over the world. His faction published left-wing newspapers and brought in recruits from the mainstream left. They were critical of Hitler and his circle for not adhering to the anticapitalist aspects of the Nazi ideology. They were effectively the closest real thing to the "commie nazis" that started as a joke and now is actually taken seriously by alt-reichers.

And Strasser was killed along with all his important followers during the Night of the Long Knives on Hitler's orders, because fascism is a radical right-wing ideology that sometimes tries to show some leg to leftists in order to bolster itself.

Now that I think about it, there was a similar dynamic going on with the Bernie-Trump voters who weren't accelerationists. (Not saying Trump is a Nazi. Well, not yet anyway.)

Accelerationists are leftists who believe that attempts at legislative or even direct action are futile and only draw out the consequences of capitalism. To them, getting rid of capitalism is only possible when it's reached its late-stage and become fully degenerate and weak.

As such, accelerationists believe that leftists should vote for the most vile hypercapitalists possible in order to accelerate the coming of the revolution, like ripping off a bandage.

Who gave you the idea that antifa has anything to do with democrats?

Because remember folks: What our undertrained and underfunded police forces need is expensive to maintain equipment they have little to no training in the use of that's overkill for the vast majority of everything they do. Surely it will help out somewhere. Somehow.

So I get that SWAT teams or normal cops that have broken out the riot gear could use one to fire tear gas.  But under what circumstances are normal cops even allowed to fire a grenade launcher?

The anarchists in Berkely aren't leftist god damn it! There's no connection in policy, ideology, or history between Antifa and the left!

Yeah, anarchy isn't associated with the democratic party or the mainstream American left.  Although antifa and mainstream left protestors march side by side in some cases (like Charlottesville) so I ere on the side of defending rather than distancing, especially since AFAIK most antifa groups I've heard of seem to be reacting to this years' events in a reasonable manner.  I'm glad some element of our country didn't fall into the "Trump doesn't really mean anything he says" trap.

I can see how anarchists would technically be leftist, but would counter that the most similar political movement to anarchy would be US libertarianism.  They both essentially espouse the same goals but a different end result of what will happen if those goals are achieved.  Anarchists believe in something like a reduction of politics back to the city state or tribal level (not how they would word it but that's basically what they believe AFAIK) whereas US libertarians want a return to the extremely early US, basically a bundle of private landholders and weak local governments nominally held together by an even weaker federal government.  So I would put anarchy in about the same place as environmentalism where its sideways to the mainstream political spectrum of left-right.  Except I think both left and right should adhere to environmentalism (at this point environmentalism might as well be the same thing as "edible food-ism", its a necessity for survival) and no one should adhere to anarchy except maybe in extremely mild forms.

I'm a left anarchist, Libertarians are close to right anarchists. Democrats are vile hateful things that literally only show up as lesser evils when contrasted with republicans.

But under what circumstances are normal cops even allowed to fire a grenade launcher?

Any grenade launcher transferred to the civilian police would be used to fire smoke or riot-control grenades. I am aware of no circumstances where the use of explosive rounds would be authorized, and the program under which military gear is being transferred to police forces does not seem to include such.

On a related subject, there is an argument that what we need is a more "militarized" police force - in the sense that veterans from the Iraq and Afghanistan conflicts often have superb de-escalation training, and apparently are considerably slower to react with lethal force even when circumstances arguably warrant it.
