What with the wording above I hope they had their parking ticket history in order.

Quote from: Latest Trump Tweet
Homeland Security and law enforcement are on alert & closely watching for any sign of trouble. Our borders are far tougher than ever before!
Borders do nothing if the trouble is already inside them.  Whoever you talk to (even islamophobes and white extremists), this is just meaningless as a solution to the 'problem'.

A distraction from something, maybe?

Seems more like trying to puff out his chest and look strong in response to Barcelona, but yes, it's trying to be a distraction.

Right now though we are suffering from an aversion to anything socialist-flavored in our government. Profit based healthcare, education, infrastructure, policing, prisons, defense, governance, these are fucking insane but we've got them all here, hurray!

Isn't that primarily on the Republican side? Even then, it's not as much of a 'touch of death' as it used to be, helped by the Republicans overusing the word during Obamas admin.

(He's followed up with "Obstructionist Democrats" and "Radical Islamic Terrorism" again, and I don't know if Camp David has a fairway, but it seems like he's trying to look more presidential than with visiting Mar A Lago, etc.)

(And I see rumours, on news-sites I don't know how much to trust, that another Republican guy has started pushing for impeachment, some mention of being just six votes away. (While a Democrat somewhat ill-advisedly 'hoped' for assassination.))

I've seen a few things about a Republican calling for impeachment, forget who though. Nothing about the six votes away. Not surprised that calls for impeachment are growing.

There was definetly a state senate Democrat blurting out that Trump should be assassinated. Apparently, and ironically, in response to a friends (Not sure the relationship to who they were responding to) comment about worrying that the Secret Service would be looking into them or something.

Six votes assumes all 48 Democrats are eager to get Trump out (and Pence in..?).  Anyway, The Independent is running with it, which is within my Comfortable Amount Of Trustworthiness zone...  Elsewhere, the author of The Art Of The Deal is saying he thinks Trump would rather just resign. (Same result, probably less painful. At least until the lawsuits (re)start against him and his kin...)

And now a Tweet ("to be continued", not yet done so, and I'm not sticking around especially to read it) in which he's upping the status of Cyber defence.  Throwing around the bones, isn't he? Hoping that some land in an auspicious pattern, probably...

Impeachment proceedings start in the House though, not the Senate, which is the number they should be looking at in the first place. As terrible as some people imagine Pence to be due to his position on LGBT rights and other things, he looks saintly compared to Trump right now. So, it's pretty damn hard to argue that Pence would be even worse than Trump right at this moment just because he's actually competent.

As for the Art of the Deal author, I read that as well. Only problem is that he had also said something similar back in May, and I think he is underestimating Trump's stubborness.

Anyways, Mother Nature could very well challenge him soon: http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/gtwo.php?basin=atlc&fdays=5

Six votes? I doubt they've already got 13 Republicans openly calling for impeachment, and the house supporting a motion.

Oh wait nevermind this is just the state of modern journalism, nothing to see here.

Edit: so this super respectable independent report can't even do basic math.

The say all 48 dems would vote to impeach, and 12 repubs would, including McCain.

That leaves seven votes.

Again, while the Senate has it's role in the impeachment proccess, the House is the one that starts it.

Also, with the WH staffing review almost done, some officials are basically expecting Bannon to be fired.

edit: Bannon is now out. Trump says he removed him, Bannon says he resigned. However you interpret it, he's now out.

Well it was only a matter of time.

Just so we aren't picking on Trump for being unpopular.

Is this unusual for a president?

I mean to my knowledge firing people is normal... but I don't think there is usually that many turnovers in a presidency unless something has gone seriously wrong.

Not sure what you're asking about that "is this unusual for a president?". If you mean the frequent staff shakeups, it's definetly unusual compared to recent presidents.

I can't imagine things run too smoothly for Trump or the White House government right now given it is a... not so much a sinking ship but it has so many holes in it they have to constantly man the bilge pumps.

Yet I wish I could contextualize this... I can only imagine that the amount of turnover is making things difficult, but what does that mean?

Well, high amount of turnover in the WH generally implies instability, so, contextually it'd be the difference between stability and instability? If the Trump WH ever settles down, then I guess you can get 'what does it mean?'

Also, several power centers in the WH have been eliminated at this point, I wonder how many there are left.... *goes to find that 538 article* edit: would be nice if the archives showed more than 10 articles at a time :P

In what sense?

Operationally, it means a loss of institutional memory and an increase in operational inefficiencies, as institutions have to adjust to the people nominally running them. Politically, turnover decreases the perceived value of working for Trump, since it means investing in a Trump appointee's loyalty is unlikely to pay long-term dividends -- so people who want their loyalty invested in are increasingly unwilling to pay the political cost of being associated with Trump for the returns their investors are willing to offer, unless they're neophytes or zealots.

In a nutshell, then, firing too many people eventually means surrounding yourself with ineffective lunatics.

Front page of Huffpo is "Goy, Bye!"

Wonder how long it took those responsible journalists to come up with that one...
