Pervical's back stiffened and a frown turned his face dour. Clearly the woman had misunderstood his intentions. But to immediately assume... Ugh.

"No. It is not. I was simply attempting to better understand one of the people that I am trusting to watch my back. Apparently that is unwanted though. I will refrain from asking further questions."

And stick to watching my own back. Remember Perce, you can't trust anyone. You trusted your friends back when you were an initiate, and you know how that ended up.

His hand started towards his eyepatch again, but he caught himself this time, forcing his hand back down to his side. Better to leave it. Messing with it would do nothing and it was better to break that habit than continue to advertise his weak spot to the world.

"Ah, but you see, if I'm on the ground bleeding, that means one of you has failed in spectacular fashion!" It was difficult to tell his actual intention with the phrase, given his cheery tone. "But no, I may not be able to swing an axe or a tome about, but I do have my wits about me, despite what you may think. My delay was due to my consideration of how to spread the news of today's exploits. I think I shall mention that the Little Devil is dead, as well as several other gang members, and leave it there."

"I really don't think you should go spreading that around. It's sure to just rile people up more and if some Bulls overhear I can just about guarantee they'll try to kill you."

~~~~Chapter 1: A City On Fire~~~~
"Like Angstrom said, it was not good. Uhambra found itself a battleground for a large scale gang war sooner than they thought. Everyone was ready for it, but almost no one wanted it to happen. Almost.
Now, Uhambra burns, and the smoke is surely not going to go to waste."
It was the middle of the night when Lt. Angstrom opened the door to the barracks. He was hurriedly searching for every recruit under his command.
: Hey! Wake up! No time to sleep, the city needs you!
At Linda's home, she was woken up by loud noises. Yelling, weapons clashing and something burning. And it was all too close.
Accustomed to being woken at strange times for prayers and the like, Percy easily woke up when yelled at. Running a hand over his face, he shook his head and quickly dressed. As soon as he was ready for moving out, he greased towards the door and saluted.
"Ready for action sir. What's the situation?"
: There are riots throughout the slums, and it's threatening to spread to the rest of the city. The three gangs have gone to war all at once. Where are the rest?
Bragi rolled out of bed, falling onto the ground with a thump before righting himself and taking a moment to smooth himself out.
"It is sad, but not unexpected. I am ready whenever I am needed, though I am unsure as to the whereabouts of our comrades."
Violet awoke easily, though not happily. As a child of wealthy parents she was used to a full night's sleep.
: "This does not make any sense. It feels as though things are moving too quickly." She suddenly jerked awake.
: "Oh no! Some of the recruits went to their own homes, did they not? They must be warned!"
Linda rolled out of bed, fully awake at the sound of the riot, and hurried downstairs.
"Damn... Better barricade the door even better."
First she pulled the kitchen table in front of the front door, then went to go check on her parents.
: Dammit! Who's missing? Let's go pick them up before it gets worse!
Angstrom exited the barracks, with the recruits in tow.
Linda's parents were fine for the moment, but the rooms upstairs were getting unusually warm by now.
Having never been a heavy sleeper Sybella was easily awoken by Lt. Angstrom's yelling. Her head popped off her pillow just in time to see the others leaving.
"Wh-what's going on!?" she practically yelled as she hurried to catch up with them.
The house must be on fire. There was nothing to do about that.
"Well, hells. We'd better grab what we can and get to the barracks; probably safer there."
For Linda, she didn't need much; just her weapon, the pouch of vulnerary, and the lockpicks. After, the three of them went out the back, through the lesser-traveled alleys, and headed for the barracks.
Lyra is on her feet in roughly two seconds, having fallen asleep in her clothes - she didn't really have any others after all. She grabbed her staff, prepared to go.
"Sir, do you have a record of where each recruit who does not make use of the barracks lives? We can hardly go out blind. Metaphorically speaking." The last bit was hastily added - she'd used the common-ish phrase without thinking.
