~~~~Prologue: Prison Break~~~~
"Uhambra, the city of great lies. Where everyone tries to step over everyone else in an effort to be the richest, more powerful, or just alive.
They would all soon get their comeuppance. Nobles, rich men, gangbangers... Everyone will reap what they have been sowing all this time.
And it will be all thanks to a small group of people they really should not have messed with..."
In the central district of the city, the guard HQ was a busy place. Paperwork, people running to get to their posts in time, guards in training and training guards. And in a small room, the new rookies were waiting, until someone opened the door.
You're the new recruits, right? Lieutenant Angstrom will be here soon will your first assignment. While you wait you can get to know each other, I guess.
As fast as he entered, the assistant left them alone again.
//Everyone is in!
"He seems busy. Guess he didn't have any time to stay and chat."
"Anyway, I'm Teel. Nice to meet all of you."
Percival was sitting near the edge of the room, tome out on his lap as he flipped through the pages. He barely glanced up when the assistant came in, hearing the message and continuing with what he was doing. Sparkles indicating the beginning of a spell  flared up around him, and with a flick of his wrist coalesced into a sparkling sphere. Another flick and a cross appeared. A final flick and they started to transform into what looked like a star but shot apart at the last second.
"Dammit...  So close but I still can't finish it."
He sighed and slammed his book shut, stuffing it into a small pouch at his side as he rubbed a hand over his non-covered eye.
"Linda Everett. Nice to meetcha too Teel! And all of you guys."
Linda put her hands in the stomach pockets of her pullover and rocked back and forth on her heels, looking around the room and examining all the other new recruits. She raised an eyebrow at the magic show, but otherwise showed no reaction.
Perce glanced up as he was addressed and gave a dismissive gesture.
"It's a training exercise. That's all. The last few stages are the hardest, that's all. And oh. My name is Percival Wenlock. Former Inquisitor Elect, but currently taking a... sabbatical."
Sybella watched with curiosity as the eyepatched man attempted to cast what was obviously light magic. She made a mental note to try and talk to him later. Perhaps he could help her with her disadvantage against light magic.
"I'm Sybella Wysteria. It's... nice to meet all of you, too.
"Oh, are we saying what we used to do?"
"Hmm..."
"I guess you could say I'm a clown! Sort of. I don't tell jokes but I can juggle and dance and fence and pick locks and walk on tightropes and put my foot behind my head and other tricks."
Linda demonstrated the last one, lifting her left leg so her foot pointed to the ceiling, then ducked her head and pulled her foot behind her neck. After a moment of shifting to keep her balance, she dropped her foot back to the ground.
"Kinda hurts when you haven't stretched first."
Violet, of course, missed the entire magic show as well as the flexibility display. Not that she let that bother her.
: "My name is Violet. It is a pleasure to meet all of you. I am a swordswoman by training...however, I do not have much experience."
She left the "at all" unsaid.
"Haha, that's pretty cool!"
"Unfortunately for me, I don't have a cool talent like that. I just helped my uncle run our vegetable stand until I joined up. I'm a decent shot with a bow, but not much else."
"Although, I can make a mean potato soup!"
"Um, wow. I don't think I've ever seen anyone move like that before."
"At least you've got that, Teel. All I can do is sling magic around..."
"Don't short-change yourself either. Magic sounds way cooler than soup."
"Well, I learned everything from my parents! You might've caught the show if you've ever been on the northeast side. Jumpin' Jane and Fencin' Felix! They wanted me to go on as Lucky Linda but I dunno if the circus life is for me."
She returned her hands to her pockets.
"Soup sounds pretty good, but I like baked potatoes best. Especially when we could afford a little salt and pepper and butter... Heh, better cut that thought off or I'm going to start droolin' here."
Linda giggled to herself.
