Who is this guy?

I'll recruit some more units, just in case. But I would definitely ignore and stall, at least for a few days.

I got one as well, I marked it as junk.  Seriously, I only spam people near me asking if they want to join up.

I am literally 2/3 of the way across the world from their power base.

Why do people subjugate inactives.  If they are set up with a ton of automated workers auto selling, I guess you can drain them of money.  Other than taking money out of them slowly I don't see a point.

Just by asking my locals if they wanted to join up I've got 9 domains all grouped together.  9 active domains who want to work together.  Along with a few others who might join up as well.

You might be able to subjugate them for your self.  I'm pretty sure you can claim them though, though I don't think you can liquidate a domain that is vassaled.

Yeah, you can subjugate them. You just need to get the happiness down to 0% then move your lord over to the square. You can also kill all the villagers (which has the same effect as getting the happiness down to 0). I accidentally claimed a domain that someone else had vassalized and I didn't realize until I'd already destroyed every building. I didn't have any military units, so I just slaughtered all the villagers with my lord and could then subjugate and grant sovereignty, then liquidate.

You have to be at least a Lord to subjugate though. Which means a wooden castle.

Alright so my highest quality resources are several spaces of oaks. Young oaks, Mature oaks, High oaks and Ancient Oaks, all around 69/71% quality. I have Basaltic Rock around 48% and Sandstone at 59%. That is pretty much it so far as I can tell for high quality stuff. I have some low quality (24%) Limestone and some low quality lime trees.

I'm building a school and a few more houses/huts. I'm in the middle of a decent meadow, if that is useful for anything.

As much as I love this game, I'm kinda worried it'll be a micromanagement hell later on. I zoomed in on one of the bigger cities and the guy has an unimaginable amount of units, a lot of them idling at max rest. I can imagine it would take a lot of time to put all these at work even once, let alone keep them working so they don't "slack off" at max rest.

Yeah I don't see this being a long term thing unless they overhaul the UI to allow some automation. Let me form units into work teams with shifts, for example. 3 citizens in a work team with 3 shifts so one is always working while two are resting, then I assign the team to a project and forget it. I've only spent a few hours on this and I'm already annoyed at how difficult it is to do anything

Yeah UI is a part of the problem. When you're zoomed in on a building it makes no sense the minimap is so small and the window in the middle with large unit avatars is so big. They should make that small map where you can jump to neighbouring tiles bigger and make unit selection a list with names. No need for the huge image of whatever you are on + huge unit icons.

I'd also like map overlays that display resources and their quality. Clicking each tile is kind of inane

How to launder money from a domain to be liquidated to my main one? By selling goods at an outrageous price from my main, buying it with the secondary one, then reselling it back?

I know everyone says that house quality doesn't matter, but I disagree. I am following the "Port Austral" model of domain building where you build lots of quality houses that give +5 or +6 happiness and then you have tons of specialized units (spinners, ropemakers, pork butchers, etc.) who park themselves in their shop on one of those quality houses. The happiness boost allows them to churn out far more products automatically due to them hitting their max happiness faster. The automation for these specialist units work pretty well as they don't lose much stamina for each production run. Plus the resources they use are often limited and so it's okay if they aren't running 24/7.

Automation is definitely a big part of my future in this game. I'm already at a point where I basically never click on my welldiggers, hunters, gardeners, woodcutters, etc. I'll probably end up building way more woodcutters, quarrymen, brickmakers, farmers, etc. than I actually need, just due to wanting to flood the domain with automated workers who are accomplishing the jobs I need done.

Figuring out what jobs and industries are best for automation is kind of fun, actually.

And at a certain point you should be making a bunch of stuff yourself, to where you never have to think about it. I've clicked on "buy nails" a few hundred times. Meanwhile I have high quality slate on every building and I never think about it, because I gather it myself automatically.

I think the UI is decent given how complex the game is. Obviously it would be nice to be able to queue a bunch of jobs.

I built a nail factory, and now my toolmaker keeps wandering over. I don't know why, he can't auto-produce nails, and as far as I know he can't make any other things at the nail factory besides chisels(which I do not have automated).

Yeah I don't see this being a long term thing unless they overhaul the UI to allow some automation.

Most specialized units do have automation. Woodcutters automatically harvest wood, brickmakers automatically make bricks and tiles, etc. And they will wait until they fully rested to do it.
Automatic production should be enabled automatically the first time you produce/harvest something, but you can also toggle it manually under the unit's settings.
The automation is maybe not quite as detailed as you requested, but it does help minimize the tedium, especially as you start to get dozens of units.
