Oh hello. Demonhood was great, and now it's back? Back! PTW at the least.
I love hearing about people enjoying Demonhood who joined the forum after it died lay down for a few strange aeons. Might I ask how you discovered it?
I don't recall. I think I must have been lurking at the time it was going. I'm not a true newcomer here, I've been around for maybe two years, but mostly hide up in them hills the RTD board.
I saw it in a Hall of fame and read the whole thing while I was traveling. It was awesome.
((But what signs are these? Tall, emaciated strangers with burning eyes has kind of already been done. Please come up with a theme for Nokluvgn so I don't just end up repeating the tale of Krlnkir Yrlvnt.))[/i]
Knives. lots of knives. Tightly packed knives, taking up every space, filling up your eyes, gouging them out.
I can only think of this

Break his mind.

Make them dream that they are in a dark maze, trying to find their way out. They will see a light shining at where the exit should be, but when they get there, there is only another maze. Oh, and fill the maze with scary wolves that chase them or something.

Demonhood's back?! Holy hot diggity dang damn shittery shiver me timbers I'm gonna be watching this. Participating too.
Hmm. I see there's discussion of Nokluvgn's theme, eh? Well, I think I have some ideas in line with what's already going on.

Noklugvn is the subversion of things you thought were once normal. He is you coming home to your house to find it distorted and bloodied, the dimensions of rooms warped and strangely elongated, of fingers wriggling only in your peripheral vision. Fingers cover everything, replacing doorknobs, what food you have, even your cutlery is merely fingers on sticks. The fingers are not normal either, that would be too generous - some are enormously elongated and bladed, sinuously waving like deadly seagrass, others have strange bony spikes forming out of the skin - always two at first near the nail, which is pointed so as to form a cross-like shape.

The dreams begin slowly, but as they progress a villager will begin to see them bleed through into their life. Where did all these knives come from? Are his own fingers becoming distorted? Why can he no longer find his way inside his own home? What are those things grasping at the corners of his eyes?

Apologies for going on and on and on, but you get the essential idea, yes? Strange dreams that start with one's surroundings being a little distorted, but as the dreams go on they get more and more demented and fingers, knives, and mazes start featuring more and more heavily in them, and then eventually they start seeing this stuff in real life, eventually turning to worship us.

Previous Update (Further corruption) | This Update (The priest and the maze) | Next Update (The worshipping of Nokluvgn)

Make them dream that they are in a dark maze, trying to find their way out. They will see a light shining at where the exit should be, but when they get there, there is only another maze. Oh, and fill the maze with scary wolves that chase them or something.

Whilst incorporating a bit of everyone's suggestion.

As the priest makes his introduction, you waste no time in assaulting his mind with your own. His mental defences are far more formidable than that of a mere villager, and he immediately notices the foreign presence in his mind and actively fights back. It doesn't help him, in the end; no matter how well he defends himself, he is a mere mortal, and your mental energy is easily double of what he can muster. You carefully disassemble his defences one by one, weaking his sanity until

The priest stands in the center of the maze. Darkness intrudes on all sides, the only light being the meagre flickering of his dying torch. Whispers echo off the walls, wriggling fingers lurk at the edges of his vision. Suddenly, he notices a faint light in the distance- salvation! This witch has not bested him yet!
Slowly, methodically he makes his way through the maze, always following the distant light. He occasionally feels the soft touch of unseen digits, but whenever he swings round to look at them, they disappear- or were they never there?
Over the course of what feels like several hours the light grows brighter and brighter. He has begun to hear growling noises in the maze, so he starts to pick up the pace. Finally, the exit is in sight! I will smite the witch who trapped me here, he thinks, as soon as I pass through this final portal. He strides forth confidently, passing into and through the light.

Slowly, methodically he makes his way through the maze, always following the distant light. He occasionally feels sharp fingers tugging incessantly at his clothes, but whenever he swings round to look at them, they disappear- or were they never there?
Over the course of what feels like several hours the light grows brighter and brighter. Snarls and barks can be heard echoing through the maze, sometimes far away, sometimes right behind him- causing him to run in fear of whatever beasts lurk in this twisted labyrinth. Finally, the exit is in sight! I shall escape the clutches of this witch after all, he thinks, as soon as I pass through this final portal. He strides forth, passing into and through the light.

Slowly, methodically he makes his way through the maze, always following the distant light. Fingers rake his unprotected back, their blades cutting lines across his skin- but whenever he turns around, they disappear, along with any injuries they may have caused. The priest wonders if he might be going insane.
Over the course of what feels like several hours the light grows brighter and brighter. Fell beasts chase him, their glowing eyes and shining teeth all he can make out in the darkness. He only barely manages to escape them, but escape them he does, until at last, the exit is in sight! Soon this nightmare will be over, he thinks, as soon as I pass through this final portal. He strides forth nervously, passing into and through the light.

The priest kneels down in the center of the maze. Hasn't he been here before? He stands up slowly, illuminating the darkness with the meagre flickering of his dying torch. Whispers echo in his mind, and his fingers seem to stretch themselves out when he isn't looking, transforming into knives and other, worse things.
Slowly, with madness clouding his judgement, he makes his way through the maze, ignoring the distant light. Fingers, all too real, rear up out of the shadows and claw and slice his unprotected flesh.
Over the course of what feels like days the priest wanders aimlessly through the maze. Occasionally demonic wolves hunt him, delighting in his panicked scramble to get away from them. Sometimes they catch him. When they do, they tear into his flesh- not enough to kill, but just enough to cause maximum pain. Then they throw him through the air, over the walls of the maze, until he lands in a bloodied heap in a new passage, totally disoriented. He lies there in agony, bleeding but not dying from his injuries. Eventually he gets up and resumes his journey.
It is whilst the wolves are throwing him over the maze that he sees it- hidden away in the depths of the maze, the faintest of glows- not the bright light of the so-called exit, but a more subtle light that nevertheless seems more inviting than the dazzling 'exit'. Filled with renewed purpose, he memorizes the location and starts to make his way there. Days- nay, weeks- pass, and he must allow himself to be captured by the wolves several times to get another glimpse at the glow, but slowly, slowly, he makes his way there.
The inhabitants of the labyrinth clearly do not want him here; fingers grasp him, holding him back, and he must tug himself free to continue. Wolves harry him constantly, sometimes with an entire pack blocking the way, forcing him to find an alternate route. But eventually he reaches it- a closed door, with the faintest glow of the outside to be seen around the edges. He stumbles towards it, clothes shredded, limbs bloodied, mind on the verge of insanity. Slowly he opens the door, revealing a warm, orange light- the light of home and hearth, of friends and family. With a cry of relief he all but falls into the light.

...

The priest stands in the center of the maze.

until he becomes trapped within his own mind, doomed to wander forever through an inescapable labyrinth. His body is now under your control, a puppet that dances to your damned tune.

That went a lot better, didn't it? Now that you have this priest under your control, in should be far easier to
-Fully corrupt the entire village, until they will sit and listen to you preach about worshipping demons without batting an eye.
-Choose a few of the most suitable villagers, and focus your corrupting efforts on them, until they are willing to worship you.
-Enslaving a few important villagers, then taking over the village, as that you may eat, enslave, or corrupt at your leisure.

Hmm. I see there's discussion of Nokluvgn's theme, eh? Well, I think I have some ideas in line with what's already going on.
When I was creating his appearance, I actually pictured his smoke aspect being more prominent.

Let's choose a few of the most suitable villagers, and focus our corrupting efforts on them, until they are willing to worship us.

We'll be severely weakened for a week or two, but we'll become stronger for it, and faster.

Really glad to see Demonhood back in action!

In the future when we have a power base, I would like to advise against making too many unique/low-number minions. In Demonhood, it felt like we could get a little bogged down in our mad laboratory at times, trying to out-evil ourselves.

I like the use of mazes, fear, and flesh-tearing implements to exemplify Nokluvgn.

+1 While we maintain our corrupting influence on the town, focus on a few villagers that would be inclined towards our dark service. Perhaps friends of the town witch might be easily influenced. (The old priest did call her a demon worshipper!)
