[ISG] - Tonal - A Beginning
« on: November 18, 2016, 09:05:26 pm »

From the director of ██████████████████ to Investigations Council officer █████ ████████.
Thank you for your most... eloquent presentation at the hearing, officer. Here at ██████████████████ we pride ourselves on the same values as you extolled to the Council. Truth, honesty, and above all dedication. The whereabouts of the data you seek is of course a matter of grave concern to us, and we promise that you will be hearing from us, as soon as it can be arranged.

The robot is called Semper-1311

The robot crash-landed here.

"Here" is one mountain in a range of several, the robot landed near the peak of one of the mountain range's more impressive specimens.

The robot is Fe-Ni.
It was sent to explore the iron-nickel asteroid that it is currently on.

A light flickers on dimly, as the robot reactivates.
Diagnostics, run. It reviews its memory banks: Crash-landing atop a mountain to maximise chance of antenna pickup from orbit.
It observes its surroundings.

The robot reaches a Conclusion: It does not seem to be at the top of a mountain.
The robot posits a query: Where, then, is it?

Obviously in a waste processing plant. Better get out quickly because they incinerate all trash here.

The plastic bags make unpleasant noises as the robot wriggles its way clear.
It floats gently back down, notably above the ground, bobbing gently, and moves right.

As the robot approaches the metal shutters, its visual processors come close enough to identify the shapes
around it and ceases filtering them out. It sees a puddle of thin, black substance pooling under the shutter.
It sees a control panel and attatched cable.
Evidence added to its Conclusion, but what now? there is only a wall directly ahead.

The robot inspects its M-3 multi-purpose gripper as part of a routine systems check.
This should be able to hold onto virtually anything with a smooth-ish area, and are found on most multi-purpose robots.
It is functioning at 90% efficiency due to grease buildup.

The robot inspects the control panel more closely. There does not appear to be a way to wirelessly connect, despite tentative connect requests.
The panel has a cable port. The panel has a slider. The panel has a green and red light, both off. The panel has an access cover.
The panel has a small, white cylinder exposed, connected by black cable into the chassis.

Attempt to identify the black gunk

The robot dabs at the black fluid. It ripples disconcertingly.
The substance seems too thin to be regular oil, but suddenly thickens after a few seconds.

A faint whirring starts up on the other side of the shutters, then stops, then repeats for the same length of time.
