I'm having trouble with the elves considering the leather armor to be made of wood and refuse to trade. It's not the first time the elves have been pissed off even though I'm fairly sure I've deselected every bin there is, but this is the first time I've whittled it down to a single object and which definitely should NOT be made out of wood (there might be more of them: I haven't checked).
Is it a known bug (I fail to find it on the bug tracker)?
My save isn't really fit for a bug report since I've tried to do some hacking to handle the unavailable lost caravan bug items.
The armor probably belonged to one of the hordes of human mercs who insist on getting themselves killed while my fortress is under siege by goblins.

That was a very good question!
And yes, it does have an PEACH WOOD image sewn on. That's a really nasty curved ball DF has thrown.

Was that an image of peach wood, or image sewn with peach wood? (Do elves hate it when we sell them images of the wood too?)

The image (of a cup, I believe) was on wood sewn onto the armor.

I don't sell elves decorated stuff.  It's too much hassle to check everything.

I don't decorate stuff, and thus didn't know this item was decorated. As I stated above, it belonged to a human merc who decided to commit suicide by gobbo siege charging. It's also the only decorated item I've had, as far as I'm aware of (I might have dumped some in the human garbage truck, of course).

I always look at <<decorated>> goods before selling them to elves. There are plenty of wooden decorations in the world outside that show up at my fort, either from invaders or immigrants. Anything with <<these>> around it gets a careful inspection before getting offered to elves.

they're at peace with wildlife but they don't really care about wildlife. Elves really only care about trees.

You're welcome! There is more to it as well, with markers outside the brackets indicating decoration quality level, and those inside indicating item quality level. So an <<item>> is a standard quality item with standard quality decorations, while an *<<+item+>>* is a finely crafted item with superior decorations.

I've read that hippiesElves will pay more for goods that depict / have images of trees, so long as they're not made out of trees.
