Bio: Ashlyssa was born to a small family of merchants in a large trading city in Nostor, though she only has her foster parent's word to go on for this. Her family was killed on their trade routes in one of the many numerous bandit raids that plague the country, leaving her in the now-permanent care of the Daras family. The Daras mainly dealt in herbs and medicines and so Ashlyssa grew up in a stable environment, learning little bits and trivia about herblore as she grew. No, what the little Ash wanted growing up more than anything was to do what the Queen would not and put an end to the lawlessness that strangled her country, had taken a future with her birthparents away from her. And so at the age of sixteen, she left home to join a roving militia group.
At first, she was relegated only to healing duties due to her herbalism knowledge despite her desire to fight. She did pick up knowledge here and there as was her wont, and even practiced with the wooden weaponry used for sparring when no one was looking, but it wasn't real. Ash wanted to be out there, bringing the fight to the criminals herself. After a few months with the group, an older mercenary, Cormac Maris, caught her at practice and showed her how to hold a sword properly. First they were student and teacher, then sparring partners, then friends, then comrades in arms, and finally lovers. Ash had never been happier. She was doing what she had always wanted - making a difference - and doing so with a good group of people.
Perhaps the most significant event of her time there was the night she spotted a large amount of smoke coming from a forest when on scouting duty with a few of her group. Rallying the rest of the mercenaries, they went to investigate and found a single woman fighting against a large bandit clan - the leader of which, one Granki 'Viper' Bokka, was quite infamous indeed. Being a rookie still, Ashly was relegated to helping the green-haired sorceress escape while the veterans took advantage of the fire and confusion to slaughter the group. For her part, Ashlyssa fought bravely alongside the mysterious woman, and when they were clear, she did her best to nurse her back to full health with her herbal knowledge. After a few days the woman said she felt fully recovered and left on her own, wanting to leave Nostor - but first, in thanks for saving her, the young sorceress branded Ashlyssa's left hand with a magical rune that fed off of her latent magical potential to continually heal her wounds... a gift that served the militia woman greatly in the coming years.
This state of affairs persisted for three years, and finally came to an end when in a certain town she encountered Cormac out in town... with his wife. Feeling horribly betrayed, she told the woman everything and said that she could keep him, storming off in anger. What became of her former lover or her mercenary troop afterward was none of her concern; she struck off on her own and continued fighting the good fight for another two years, occasionally working alongside others - but only as an ally. She was still too hurt over her relationship with Cormac turning out as it did to want to grow close to people. But eventually her funds ran out and her equipment was tattered beyond repair; she could no longer wage war on the lawless with what she had. She was forced to find mercenary work once more, and it was by chance she heard a noblewoman needed some freelancers to 'clear out a ruined castle'. If the infestation happened to be bandits, then she was lucky, because she could get paid AND eliminate another pocket of chaos. Eagerly, she left to find this young lady...
