Embrace light so we can assume a more stable form, trick the snake into thinking we are its friend.

Whether we actually is yet to be determined.

Also, grab our tree and plant it here!

Didn't we get the pilot? Can't we scan his brain?
If we did, +1, but I think they either got scrambled by the tractor beam or got blown out into space.
This is a normal discussion, folks.

The spider purges its being of the strangeness, becoming very small but bright.
It turns back to get the world-tree sapling, but sees it drifting away through the strangeness on a small dark bubble. The strangeness must have torn it loose in the tumult of your crossing. It is rapidly lost to sight in a sea of non-reality.

The snake says, "Ah, you are light then! Although you brought the strangeness in with you, surely it simply clung to you during the passage between worlds.
Why did you choose to make such a dangerous crossing? What brings you to this world?"

"A great beast existed beyond the veil, and even the risk of Strangeness was worth more than dying."

I wanna gauge this snake's reactions, see if it offers to help, if there are others like it, etc.

"A great beast? I must go get Knight! He will eagerly slay this monster for you!" The snake slithers off rapidly, leaving the spider alone.
The world begins pushing the spider's expelled strangeness back into the sea, but some of it seems to slip out of the brightness's grasp.

Consume the Strangeness, but keep it hidden.  See if we can fashion it into something else later.

That's actually debatable, we were born from a tree made of light, darkness just happened to surround us.  I have no opinion on whether to stay or leave, but simply learning more about the nature of inhabitants of these world(s) and how to best turn such knowledge to our advantage still seems like a good course to follow.

As far as I can tell we're an intelligent entity capable of assuming different states of matter and energy as it sees fit, adaptable but not stable.  It remains to be seen whether other creatures can do the same.

Hm, suppose that makes sense, now that I think about it. I just assumed that entities belonging to one matter-biome here would more or less be a part of it, so to speak, even if we assume different forms/states by consuming matter of other biomes.

I recant my earlier post, and instead just make it a +1.

If it finds out there is no monster, the jig is up. Shape the strangeness into a monster and send it back across

The spider eats the strangeness just as the snake returns with another being. It seems unwise to shape a monster with the snake and the knight standing right there.
"A brave and honourable act, consuming the strangeness that you brought with you! Well done, bright spider!" says the newcomer. "I am Knight of Honour, and I will slay your monster!"

The knight seems to be expecting the spider to lead him to the monster.
It is taking the spider an immense effort to keep the strangeness contained.

Lead him to the tree.

Then start moving back and forth, "searching," etc. The tree is light, and doesn't exactly look monstrous, so best to make it seem like we don't know where the beast went.

Poke our head into the strangeness and release the stuff inside us into it.
"It dived back in there! I see it now!"
