((Didn't realize I had forgotten to post a turn yet, my bad.))
If I can scan the organic mass on the fifth planet, scan that. Otherwise, scan one of its moons.
((I don't think the organic mass has moons. That'd be... a threat level 8, at least.))

Not sure it'd be tier 8 necessarily, but hey. Could happen. You guys already did fight a whale with "moons" in a certain sense. Danger ratings might be more logarithmic rather than a simple incremental scale.
That's probably long way off though, even now that I have school to deal again with as of late.

Edit: Argh sorry, I hate to break a promise but I can't do this today. I've gotten kinda sick and exhausted all of a sudden, and don't really feel well enough for it.

Yeah, don't worry about us. We'll be fine. And what AzyWng said.

Edward, deciding to be useful, goes and preps the engine for combat, attempting to maximize output temporarily.

Edward takes a good look at the engines, and decides that they could up the power by a little bit at the cost of a relatively insignificant amount of heat. Its not much of a boost, but it'll last a turn or two. Meanwhile in the ship's pilot seat, a Jackbot moves the ship slowly towards the large planet with life on it, perhaps to make scans easier to due proximity.

Techni scans planet five's moon.

The moon has a great many craters, and seems tidally locked to some extent. Nothing particularly anomalous though. No whale there or anything like that. (I'd go on about the resources but they're really not important, and I'm not feeling up to that sort of inconsequential flavor text.)

Maja narrows her scan down to just looking for the potential whale.

Maja's scan seems to sort of "bounce" off the area the whale should be around, for lack of a better description. How odd. They do get a somewhat detailed layout of the forest and its terrain though, which could potentially prove useful if a fight happens around that area.

If I can scan the organic mass on the fifth planet, scan that. Otherwise, scan one of its the planet's moons.

That's it! That organic mass is indeed anomalous enough to register as a whale! It looks to be in a sort of wide open forested glade. The ships engines fire at full power, and the crew find themselves in orbit, ready to potentially descend onto the planet.

Its up to you whether you want to go to the whale, or try to make it come to you. Either way, I'd man those weapons if I were you.

There we are. Feeling quite a bit better now. Should be back in my usual form soon enough. If you want to know what it looks like you'll need either a good scan, or to just look with your eyes. It seems relatively stationary.

Hopefully minus the pain. And animals. And stuff damaging comms and other important shit.

I'll scan the whale. While I'm doing that, we should keep our distance and wait to fire.

(Does our ship have any kind of drop-pod technology standard? Even a kind of escape pod or life pod?)

Maybe we could drop a jackbot in as a sort of scout?

Techni mans the laser turret, for now.

It might not be a terrible idea. How far do you think the cable is on the harpoon turret? Maja heads to the engines, finding Edward and Frank. I hear one of you is suicidally reckless? The kind of person who might ride a fishhook into battle, perhaps?

Maja lays out a plan, loosely inspired by Techni's Plummeting Jackbot, but safer. For the Jackbot. Edward and Frank could hang on to a slowly unreeling harpoon, and provide reconnaissance on the whale. If Edward agrees, Maja starts prepping the harpoon turret for the stratagem. If not, she can go do another scan of the whale, but glummer.

Edward agrees to any formulated plan with a dumb smile.
