The star is a main stage star much like Earth's sun, and it is orbited by 7 planets. The first four are rocky worlds, all of them too close to the star to be inhabited by life as humanity knows it. The third planet has two moons, and the fourth has one. The fifth is more terrestrial, and is perhaps three times larger than the earth itself. It does seem to show life signs, and it does seem to have some things growing on it. It also has a single moon. The fifth, sixth, and seventh are all gas giants of varying sizes. The last gas giant is by far the largest, being twice as large as the first and 4 times as large as the second. The first two doesn't seem to have moons according to the scanners, but that seems unlikely. The third has a whopping 14, with the largest having a mass approximately equal to the first and smallest rocky planet. Best get to looking around.

If I am reading this right:

((Correct. that was the planet I intended to scan.))

"Weell... the big spiky ones had too many barbs to poke around in someone with, so..."

Maja tries to take the crew's mind off of harpoon surgery by performing a scan of the life-bearing fifth planet.

Don't worry too much about the harpoons, the tranq actually is a decent painkiller, and I won't resort to randomly stabbing around unless someone has a flesh boring parasite or similar.

((The tranq is also in large enough quantities to affect a whale, so it could easily kill someone, and I wouldn't be surprised if your character forgot which harpoon was which.))

Andel decided to try to scan the seventh gas giant (the largest one with the fourteen-something moons).

Edward plays with Frank.

Edward finds it rather difficult to play with Frank because he is strapped to his back. Still, life, uh, finds a way. However, I spy is far less challenging than anticipated in space.

Techni scans the Fourth Planet (i.e. the terrestrial one with life on it)
Spoiler: Star System (click to show/hide)
(Corrections made in spoiler. So you probably mean planet 5. Also I apparently meant 8 planets when I wrote 7. Will correct this. Basically, I had added another rocky world early on because of reasons, and forgot to update the planet count/numbering.)

Techni makes a scan on the life holding planet and gets... nothing? Eh? Oh, apparently the scanner sort of bugged out for a second and missed a few steps.

Maja tries to take the crew's mind off of harpoon surgery by performing a scan of the life-bearing fifth planet.

Maja's second scan is far more revealing. There seems to be a large organic mass somewhere on the planet. Precise location unknown.

Andel decided to try to scan the seventh gas giant (the largest one with the fourteen-something moons).

The gas giant is not in itself notable, but the moons seem to be captured asteroids of varying composition. Some would be more valuable than others, but there doesn't seem to be a whale here.

Scan the seventh planets largest moon.

The largest moon is an interesting one. It looks to have a middling atmosphere, and might actually be able to support life with a little work.

(This system sounds a lot more like Sol than I had intended. Allow me to assure you that that is not the case. Anyway most of the confusion is probably my fault. I've skipped crazyabe here but I doubt they had anything in mind given their last action. I can retroactively do an action for them this turn if they have two actions in mind, one for this turn and one for the next.)

"I spy something black and infinite."

Edward, deciding to be useful, goes and preps the engine for combat, attempting to maximize output temporarily.

Techni scans planet five's moon.

I wonder if the whale is that organic thing on planet five.

so we've scanned: planet 5 twice, planet 8 twice, planet eight's largest moon once. Right?
Also a system wide scan.

Edward, did you spy your mom's behind?

Edward turns to Techni, his innocent and wondrous eyes quickly turning malicious and rather intimidating.

"No, silly!

I see the exact amount of shits I give about your survival. Your days are numbered.

After all, you did melt Frank 1.0!

Maja narrows her scan down to just looking for the potential whale.

"I think I might have it. Fifth planet."

Maja narrows her scan down to just looking for the potential whale.

"I think I might have it. Fifth planet."
((every scan we do either looks for the whales, or scans the whale for abilities, size, and the like. You need to make your scan target explicit, like "scan the fifth planet to see if the whale is there. We're not scanning these planets just to see if they have pretty rock formations :P

scans work like this: we enter a system, person tells us what we see in the system. We tell person if we want to do a broad scan [looking for the whale] of the whole system, or if we want to narrow in on a specific body that was mentioned in the description [still looking for the whale]. person tells us the results of our scans, and we repeat the process wit hthe new info.

I am assuming you are wanting to scan the fifth planet again? probably wise. looks like our previous scans didn't yield the clearest results.))

Sorry about the wait. I guess I was kind of hoping the others would post. Will probably have a turn up by the end of the day.

((Didn't realize I had forgotten to post a turn yet, my bad.))
If I can scan the organic mass on the fifth planet, scan that. Otherwise, scan one of its the planet's moons.
