Day 9Once I have managed to develop a quantum brain sufficient to house my superior intellect I will not longer need to worry about headaches.
Press on with Quantum Brain research, begin Miniature nuclear reactor research.
Not the worst plan you have had. Imagine having duplicates of yourself online simultaneously!
Now with bunch of frozen subjects you need a device and method to carefully scrape subject brains. Cutting extremely thin layers of frozen gray matter, identifying neurons by type, their axons and dendrites, mapping what goes where, essentially building highly detailed 3D model of brain, which can be later simplified for simulation. Each layer shouldn't be thicker than one micrometer, preferrably half of that. So altogether that equals pretty damn many layers, which translates into very slow process. Therefore the brain scraper should be able to scrape multiple layers at one go. Hmm. Multiple macroscopic scraper heads in different orientation and heights to provide maximum scraping capacity... Yes, it should work nicely. It most likely will have 3.5% change for misreads, but that is acceptable cost for highly increased speed. You work fervently modifying certain high precision metalworking tool for your deviant purposes.
Miniature fission reactor faces some very major problems. Maybe biggest of all is dealing with all the heat it generates. Using the extremely old fashioned turbine based approach is completely out of question. That leaves you only generation V+ reactors, either liquid-core or gas-core. With gas-core you could use photovoltaic materials to gather energy, but it leaves you with a problem of cooling, heat tolerant containment materials and those pesky neutrons. Eh, you'll figure it out. Eventually.
And whole business of starting a nuclear reaction ain't fast process. Reactor must be activated a good while before soldier is deployed. Or you need to get really creative. Anyway, you won't invent things without work so you get right in it.

At least this shows some promise. Keep working on MMI device.
If only because you can tell where you are going. More familiar ground, so to speak.
Figuring the perfect spot for chip turns out to be much easier than you predicted. This leaves you a plenty of time to work with chip design, which you gladly put in use. The thing about the chip is that it needs power to transmit high bandwitch radio signals. You figure way to power it via natural heat variation occurring within brain. Few extra wires around skull greatly help the process. Despite of that you aren't bathing in free power, so you have to carefully manage power usage. This leads you developing powerful data compression methods. The last bit to do is extra careful transmission management. Can't waste any more power there than necessary.
By the way, how do you want to test this tech? And training end users to use these things is not a one day process. Even though they can use it unintentionally to some degree right away, learning proper use will take few days, maybe even weeks in worst case.

Perhaps I can get my chemically altered test subjects to help with the hive mind design. Work concurrently and independently from them, and see who gets better results by the end of the day.
Meanwhile, improved reaction times! Start a new test group. Several, actually. Exclude a specific element of the drug cocktail from each to determine which one I can instead pitch as a difficult-to-detect poison.
((I rather wonder why people are messing around with spoilers. Surely it doesn't matter whether we know what the others are doing or not?))
Naturally it's you who gets best results. They simply can't be compared to you. You are natural super human where as they are pale replicas, if even that. And keep in mind these test subjects are here unwillingly. You may not care, but they do. They'll be happy to sabotage and ruin your efforts if you let them "help".
After intense study you can pinpoint the problematic combination of hormones and your custom nootropics. This specific combo is both the cause of apathy and the key combination that allows entire serum work as well as it does. The solution is simply to replace the nootropic with an alternative drug, which turns out to be even better than the original, boosting performance notably. And you now also have a chemical weapon in your disposal.
The neuron connection design for hive mind proceeds slowly. Currently, if the designed mass is properly folded, it takes nearly one cubic centimeter of space. Soon you have to start thinking where to put it and how to make it happen.
((To quote The Art of War:
"So it is said that if you know your enemies and know yourself, you will not be put at risk even if you have a hundred battles."))

i'm back!
research: matter annihilation power plant.
Hello, welcome back!
In last post I lined few alternative branching possibilites for your tech development. Address them at your leisure.
You put aside the work which upon completion would grant you a large number of Nobel awards for rest of your natural life if you cared about those. Not that matter annihilation power plant wouldn't do the same. Which is basically matter-anti-matter collisions. Anti-matter generation in controlled manner. In your case low-energy particles are probaly preferred. First thing is to produce antimatter reliably. And contain it long enough to fire its counter particle on it. Then harvest released energy. And then make it small and light enough to power your super soldier. Hmm. Well, off to work you go.

Top three. Brain chips, batteries, and camo.
Perhaps limiting your workload is indeed the best choice as you make best use of your time. Literally.
Active camo breaking body shapes comes together nicely. While it cannot make heather grow on your back, it can decently simulate mass of them and their movement in wind. It can simulate any dense mass that doesn't require too much detail. A little too much for simply breaking mere body shape. Now to make it work nicely with color changing. Hmm, do you think you need counter illumination?
For high density battery you get data about certain new research that promises both high capacity and very fast charge and discharge. Using that as basis you run multiple simulations for its life time, ways to improve capacity even higher and make some decent headway there. Granted, it's far from done, but you have some solid leads.
And improving reaction speeds via installed chips. That has been sitting few days on your back burner, its about time to be done with it. Except you don't have any ideas how to make a mere chip to work considerably faster than specialized neurons...

Onward nanomachines! begin work on robotic body.
Slowly but surely you are reaching the smallest end of tools and devices, but there's still few steps left. A last stretch, so to speak. And then of course you have to actually design nanomachines you will be using. Their capacities, secure communication, movement and so on. A small task compared to making the tools.
Robobody is kinda theoretical thing right now, especially if you plan to use nanomachines for it. Perhaps endoskeleton could be used as frame for nanomachines? Do they change your plan in any way?

I attempt to finish the lizard transformation device. If I still have time left, I look over my notes for this project to look for anything that's applicable to my healing technology.
Your monster maker thing ends up a little half assed. Scales are more based on
epidermodysplasia verruciformis wildly accelerated, painful bone cancer breaking through flesh and skin, suppressing higher reasoning and boosting hunger for meat. Your test subjects go appropriately into cannibalistic feeding frenzy killing few non affiliated test subject and one lab assistant who ran in wrong direction when they broke out of their restraints. Couple of lab rooms had to be sealed off. At the moment you have 15 crazies banging the walls and howling their unnatural hunger. Cell death should occur in two days if you did it correctly.
As for useable technologies, you have basically everything you need, everything scattered over multiple projects. All you need to do is to pull it together into coherent form.

Acquire focus. Continue research.
Basically continue with the same ideas as the previous day.
Do me favour and quote what you want to do. It's always easier for GM. It was wear protection and cooling, right?
Your brain rejects the very concept of wear protection. It refuses to do anything with it. Slap some oil into it and be done with it, your subconscious tells you.
That's why focus all your effort on the cooling. A liquid with high heat capacity, that's water basically. Tubes passing through large number of threads of highly heat conductive and corrosion resistant materials. Large surface area to conduct heat into coolant. Flowmeters to track deviations and shut valves. Radiator lungs are good idea, double with airpump to ensure constant and steady flow of air. Deployable radiator wings, while fragile, can help with rapid cooling after combat or in safe areas. Materials are selected and ordered. What is left is building and proving the design.

I want to be Egan's pet TEST SUBJECT.
Can I can I can I?
You're too late, I'm afraid, you'll just have to best star2wars3 here in a trial by combat.
That's a brilliant idea! Aigre, will you issue the duel? star2wars3, will you accept if duel is issued?
IF allowed, I attempt to steal research notes and models from one of the compeditors for ozarck. If I can, try to make sure my thieving target has research related to ozarck's for maximum effectiveness.
I have been actually waiting for this to happen, because how it could not happen in game like this? Industrial espionage is important!
You have an idea where his competitors' labs are located, but you don't know who's where and what they are working with, so I'll send you randomly somewhere. It will take few days... say perhaps four? I'll roll every day for your progress. Don't get caught! Feign ignorance if you do!
