After some time, the result is even worse than before; many good horses and their riders perish while damage to Parsians is minimal.

817 AD, Mid-Autumn

In a week, scouts report that two armies are marching toward Abur; one from the north, other from the east. They're both Parsian, comprised of thousands of spearmen with lots of supplies. The northern unit is smaller, but is also further away from Abur than the other.

The enemy might be preparing a proper siege this time. After a debate with your military commanders, you decide to...

A) Order the Army to march out northwards and clash with the Parsians coming from that direction.
B) Order the Army to march out eastwards and clash with the Parsians coming from that direction.
C) Begin preparations to survive another siege at Abur.

Given nothing else, I would agree with A. Better to conquer them whilst they are divided after all.

In that case, I change my vote to B. If we can crush the larger force we may scare the smaller into submission without a fight. The smaller will also have further travel in order to intervene as well.

EDIT: I'd also prefer to fight the larger force with as large and fresh an army as possible and then face the smaller when tired, rather than the other way around.

You order the Army to march out and meet with the foes in the east! Only a small garrison is left at Abur.

After less than half a day of travels, the armies meet and then clash.

The masses collide and amidst flanking, horsemen rushes and sporadic arrow volleys, Parsians suffer heavy casaulties, but the amount of corpses amongst your troops aren't small either.

By the end of the day, the army is repelled and flees eastwards, leaving the heavy supply wagons behind. More than half your forces return to Abur next morning.

The northern army must've learnt of the defeat of the eastern one, because scouts report that within two days the northern group retreated northwards as well.

"The time to strike eastwards is now, sire!!" The military commanders declare, but as their King, it's up to you. Finally, you decide that...

A) This time we go on offensive. We march out!
B) We need to stay at Abur for a while longer and prepare.

B.  The enemy northern army remains.  We've taken heavy casualties...

If we do not act, that northern army will hang around and potentially cause mischief. If we do act, we will force the northern army to react. Only reacting is a sure fire way to lose.
