My friend says that all df players are 13 to 14 or lone programmers...I need to show him a proof "normal" people play this game...Any help?
Why doesn't a 13-14 year old lone programmer count as "normal", anyway?(if we're going to pretend that there is such a thing as normal.)

45, male, IT security and compliance specialist  :)  How rare of a skillset does one need to be non-"normal"?  :D

30 years father here. I have also four old Dogs. I'm afraid I can't program a single line. Livin in Europa. Does that count as normal?

Living in one of Jupiter's moons is pretty awesome, I must say  8).

Regarding "13-14 year olds" being excluded from the OP's friend's "normal people". Why those specific two ages? Are twelve-year-olds normal, become non-normal the instant they turn 13, and then become normal again the instant they turn 15?

Is this biome reanimating? I really don't want to know what happens when "absurd numbers of megabeasts" is combined with "reanimating biomes".

My preconception of DF and DF players was that they all had autism spectrum disorders, then I decided to try it out and got hooked. I still don't know whether I was right or not. :D

Let your friend try the game and assess if he's normal or not himself. ;)

If my past has anything to say: Then socially, I'm not normal in the normal sense. But generally, overall, a pretty chill person.

Then I play games, any kind of game, and essentially, that's when my lack of normal starts to show it's colors. Including the kind of twisted mind that hides behind the placid exterior of my usual self.

Allow for the complexity of DF, and the freedom of control you have over various elements here and there, and... well, you can do crazy shit like building a colossal airship in your free time to pass time.

After hanging out with people on a somewhat regular basis again, and talking about this game (along with some of my fortresses/creations from other games and such), amongst others, and exchanging stories and such (their Pokemon Go finds and such, compared to my stories of blowing up a bomb range into oblivion in Space Station 13 (all that was left was a metal frame that held it in place; Atmos was also blown in half, and so was my safety pod for recording the explosion.), and otherwise); I'm very much, and proudly so, quite abnormal.

I'm far from normal (28 yo "lone programmer"... I guess...?), but if there are 13-14 year olds playing this game, I'd love to meet them. Any 13-14 year olds playing this are a hell of a lot better than the current generation of 13-14 yo. You should have some idea of how much you have to know and figure out just to be able to get a stable fortress or adventurer going in this game. You gotta have intelligence and a good analytical ability and still you have to research a lot.

In fact, I'd say this is one of the nicer forums I've seen. Everyone is friendly, helpful, well spoken (written...?), and out for the pursuit of !!SCIENCE!!. I don't think I've seen a single flame war in the entire time I've been visiting these forums, though I'm sure one has cropped up at some point (it's an inevitability, right?)

If anything, I would agree, and be proud of the fact that no one on here is normal. They're not dicks.

33 years old, father of three, caretaker for disabled adults at work. Apartment dweller in Chicago, grew up small town. I dunno, I've never bought into normalcy, but I tend to feel pretty ordinary most of the time.

Normal?

Normal?

Hah!

Though, I must admit I sorta fit the lone programmer stereotype.  :v

Mjeh, I started playing DF in high school, where considered any hobby that requires more than 10 minutes of reading to be a waste of time and must require some sort of autism spectrum disorder. DF looked all sorts of crazy to them.

I'm sure most of them have gotten over that by now.
