((OOC Thread))

Five gods crawled into the Golden Bubble. At the center of the bubble floated a softly glowing pearl, emanating golden light that suffused the entire Bubble. Behind them, the hole they had made to crawl into this eggshell sealed shut, but not before a wisp of non-existence slithered in. A shudder ran through everything, as the five knew this space was now tainted, the seed of the Devourer planted.

An eternal moment of tension, as each tried to discern the temperament of this group they had fallen into during their escape through cracks and across non-distance.

By primordial instinct they focused first upon the largest of their number, resembling a whale from the fevered paintings of a blind artist. Oceans poured from massive rents that had been torn in her sides, as the ghosts of shipwrecked sailors cackled gleefully at her misfortune.

Sayyart, the Leviathan who Swallowed the Sea.

A massive orb which promised explosive destruction flickered into existence next to the Pearl and began to lazily orbit it. Sayyart established a connection to this place, and chose her Roles.

---

In the prodigious shadow of Sayyart lurked an even darker blackness which seemed to drink in the golden light. A distorted outline of an ape, like that self-same artist had this time tried to paint a picture of her beloved based on half-forgotten dreams and memories. Radiating menace, he was-

Valosh, the Blind Tyrant.

With a slight shudder, a spiral of uttermost black, completely covered in cruel and jagged hooks and barbs joined the cannonball of Sayyart, as Valosh took up his roles.

---

Half a man of silk and steel floated closer to the Leviathan, driven by millennia of habit to try and heal her seemingly bleeding wounds, the shining light of its fire banishing shadow and bringing the darkness of Valosh into stark contrast with his surroundings.

Nixitar, the Healing Fire

A hand, desperately trying to clutch that which is lost, covered in living flames, appeared next to the Pearl. Nixitar would do his duty.

---

A hunched and wrinkled old man stood to one side, carrying an air of loneliness as he leaned on a exquisitely made crutch, grumbling about shoddily made ships and armour. He examined the bubble itself, looking for ways to improve it.

Wieland, the Chained Smith

A ordinary smith's hammer, wrapped in clinking chains, shimmered into existence beside its fellows, becoming part of an intricate dance around the Pearl.

---

The last of the five was perhaps the most alien, and yet simple. A box, like any made by mortal hands floated serenely. From within ethereal singing sounded.

Kiln of the Crooning Souls

A box, which was perhaps Kiln himself, completed the set, trilling unearthly melodies.

As the last chord was strung, a subtle melody began to emanate from the five symbols, something once known as the music of the spheres by long destroyed mortal scholars.

A oily black ocean of icy-cold covered the outer bubble in a sticky layer, protecting and hiding it, as Ocean and Darkness were formed from the melody.

Fire, Cruelty and Healing created a spark of malice and despair that set fire to the oil, causing the entire ocean to burn with tenebrous flames, searing the tendrils of the Great Devourer with the first true agony it had felt in ages of non-time, even as they healed the scratches it had made on the surface of the filmy inner layer of the Bubble.

The music of the spheres became more profound and complex, as souls of music wriggled out of the hole in the box (which box you are not sure), and joined their voices to the harmony, forming Souls and Music. The scent of incense swirled inside the bubble as tiny spots of nothingness imploded into existing. The music was glorious and triumphant, yet melancholic, for they were all OUTCAST. The Five felt a ripple run through them, a unique resonance with their own loss, the outcast survivors.

Nixitar watched as the roles the gods had chosen for themselves steadily joined together into a greater whole, forming a defence for their new... home? He waited, expecting Armanents and Artifice to no doubt sprout great cannons from the ocean, to fire upon the Devourer.

But to his dismay, he found that, as always, he had been thinking too small. Focusing only on one tiny window, habit having long since become instinct. And indeed he thought to himself, as the delicate inner film of the Bubble hardened into gleaming golden orichalcum, why would one create tiny needle-shooters, when you could turn the entire Bubble into a massive cannonball, a World-Armanent, wrought by divine Artifice.

Sayyart could not help but marvel at the skill of the odd smith, the inside of their refuge not even being effected slightly by the momentum of their rapid movements, as it slammed repeatedly into the Great Devourer, who was not all around.

The pain of her melting senses was slowly fading as the repeated bludgeoning slowly carved out reality from nothing. But she knew in her many guts they had made mere temporary respite. This would never be enough to stop the Devourer.

BEGINNING.

The whale spoke with maw unmoving, as if the very act was beneath her. A cunning plan by all involved started but not enough to withstand the hail and storm. I ask for compliance; cooperation in the creation of this Refuge. I would hope you all fee likewise in the circumstances we have found ourselves.

And so I ask: what shape shall our mortal-cradle take? I would recommend a world of the mundane, of deserts and oceans and forests and plains. Debate is acknolwedged but let us by quick and move on to another task.

Valosh's voice oozes from the shadows which surround him.

"I have no desire to work with simpletons such as yours. My world will be perfect, a paragon of darkness and cruelty, whilst yours will be eternally flawed."

With that, he begins to float away.

The smith looked around. The Golden Bubble wrought from Orichalcum protecting them for now was one of his greater works. Yet already he saw flaws, the one of Darkness and Cruelty would no doubt try and force him to forge one or another torture device or world ending weapon.

For now he would look to the one who helped him create the Sphere of Orichalcum, he seemed at least vaguely competent.

Bah! A World alone is not enough, cities need to be built, walls raised, aqueducts and roads and cunning plateaus to plant rice paddies in. Not to mention cities below the sea-level, bubbles for those fools who are too incompetent to grow or forge gills for themselves and cities of coral and dark marble for the rest. Create your World whale and i will be the architect of civilization.

Uncooperative. My compromise, I offered, falls on deaf ears. The world will know my will alone.

1 Mighty Act: create the world of Ao Marama, a tropical world of vast great oceans and vast archipelagos throughout the world. The two poles of the world are two grand mountains covered in vasts temperate forests and almost alpine plains. Atop each mountain is a small volcano which occasionally erupts, expelling volleys of fireworks, rockets and cannonballs. In the eastern hemisphere of the world, two large continents are found. Ahitereiria stride bestrides the equator and consists mostly of desert and scrub. Its inner landscape is poor in nutrients and unable to sustain much life but is filled to the brim with metals and other minerals. Nearer to the south pole, Aotearoa is a spidery continent consisting of many mountain ranges and active volcanoes. Two smaller subcontinents jut it from the north and east. Its climate supports a wide range of environments and life but deserts are unknown here. In the western hemisphere, there is a vast oceanic depression that reaches the core of the planet, which itself is a giant pulsating cannonball. 50km deep, the water begins to boil and at 100km this transitions into magma. Light is provided by a swarm of ethereal light spirits that orbit the world. If possible, seed the world with plant life and sea creatures with the land inhabited by sea-life based organisms.

"Great Whale, this world is good.  Reminds one of home.  A shade empty.  If you will, allow me to help.

Reaching inside his scarred visage, Nixitar painfully tore out a piece of himself; a glowing orb.  This he cast into the unformed forlorn sky, his first gift to this plane.  In all likelihood, his greatest one.

Use one Mighty Act to create the Guardian Sun, a yellow star of great fiery power.  It is no ordinary sun; inside it is embedded the gift of compassion; it's rays provide sustenance and succour to all life touched by it, greatly accelerating the growth and spread of life all throughout Ao Marama.  One could even stare straight into it and not be blinded, such is its kindness.

The Guardian Sun also contains a will of its own.  Seeded with warmth for the lives of others, it is called the Guardian for a reason.  It will detect and destroy anything attempting to attack Ao Marama from beyond the world's reach, blasting forth plumes of Light and Heat to engulf any of the Devourer's essence.

Valosh nears the edge of the sphere. There, he begins to create.

Mighty Act: Valosh creates a relatively large planet, a swampy archipelago. The world is as far from the Guardian Sun as possible. Night is almost eternal for all parts of the planet, and temperatures are incredibly low. The planet's core is composed of a relatively dense material, increasing the force of gravity on this planet. Any organisms to survive and evolve on this planet will be very resilient. He names the planet "Skygge".

Act: Valosh creates a very basic humanoid on Skygge, creating six population units of these sentient creatures. Their skin is a pallid grey, and they are mostly blind. They have minds similar to that of primitive humans. They do not naturally create their own heat, yet they require a moderate temperature to survive. The species is named "Ihmisen".

Minor Act: Valosh creates a mundane species of plants on Skygge, a fruit bearing tree which grows out of the swamp-water. The tree draws heat from massive roots leading to the core of the planet, and stores this heat in a liquid in the fruits. The only source of heat on the planet's surface are these fruits. The tree, and its fruit, is named "Ovoce".

Minor Act: Valosh creates a mundane creature on Skygge, a quadruped which runs low to the ground. The species is harmless to Ihmisen, and survives only due to their ability to rapidly scale Ovoce trees and consume the fruits. The creatures require heat to survive. They are named "Acedia".

Minor Act: Valosh tampers with the atmosphere of the planet, strengthening it beyond normal levels, causing it to reflect most light.

Kiln danced along the working gods taking note of those works they wrought. Though great they where, the smaller details had been left clear and the voices bade the box urge along the growth that was to come.

Minor Act: Boost the growth and spread of the plants of Ao Marama's waters. Deed: Improve Act

Minor Act: Boost the growth and spread of the animals of Ao Marama's waters. Deed: Improve Act

Minor Act: Somewhat boost the growth and spread of the plants and animals of Ao Marama's lands.

((If you don't specify anything to do with your deeds I'm just going to have them help actions by default))

As Sayyart planned her grand world, something suddenly stuck in her craw. Before she had time to react, she started vomiting, slowly forcing a large metal sphere up her throat. Disgruntled, she spat the thing out of her mouth.

The ball was instantly recognized, some would be god-slayers thought her mouth would be her weakpoint. As she reminisced on amusing memories, the ball began to rotate rapidly, turning surrounding matter into plasma through friction, slowly beginning to coalesce into a molten core of a new world. Her labyrinthe digestive tracts had not yet gotten the message that they could stop, and her mouth continued to spew out watery bile which hit the molten world in great heavens of steam. The top layer began to harden into a crust as the water pooled on the surface, Sayyart naming her creation "World" in a long dead tongue, remembered now only by her.

The world of Ao Marama, with a vengeful cannonball as its beating heart, is born. Balefully it glared at Sayyart, burning a hole through the crust and causing ocean waters to boil. The first life sprang up in the heat and turmoil, vast algal blooms eagerly feeding on the heat and minerals released from the worldheart. The eggs of tiny shrimp that had lain dormant in the swallowed waters for eons finally hatched, beginning to feed eagerly on the bounty of the ocean eye, while dim stars floated above the world.

The great oil oceans grow thicker and more turgid as the Cannonball orbiting the Pearl stops making small mistakes that ruin the overall harmony.

The tropical water-world of Ao Marama is created.
Algae and shrimp appear
Oceans gains 2 sphere alignment

In one smooth and determined motion, Nixitar stabbed his only hand into his own face, screams of pain escaping him despite his best efforts as he ruthlessly gripped and pulled out a massive chunk of his own fleshfire.

Shakily, he moulded it into a sun, a guardian protector of this world. The two-faced sunmoon began to go around Ao Marama, regularly checking every part of it for a sign of the Devourer. The stars huddled on the other side of the world from the sun, afraid of its too bright light.

Beneath the nourishing rays of the sun, the oceans experienced a riotous explosion of algal growth, as the simple plants soon covered the entire world in thick layers of glowing blue, green, purple and red.

Giants crabs and shrimps began to crawl out of the oceans, to eat algae washed up on the shorelines, and escape the titanic omnivorous whalesharks that had began to dominate the seas.

The Sunmoon sees no signs of the Great Devourer, but is it because there are none, or is the Devourer is simply too good at hiding? A great fire-hand waits within its core, ready to reach out and crush any Nothing it may find.

The tenebrous flames burn hotter and higher as Nixitar's Pearl Symbol begins to move it's fingers in time to the rhythm

The Guardian Sun is created
Algae spreads, crabs appear, crustaceans begin going on land.
Massive whalesharks dominate the oceans
Fire gains 2 sphere alignment

At the orichalcum edge of the bubble, Valosh creates a swirling spiral of darkness, steadily feeding it malice and darkness until it collapses into a highly dense core of burning hot hatred. Then Valosh slowly carves away at the core with a jagged knife, causing it to bleed out liquid darkness, even as it scream in outrage at its creator.

Slowly, oh so slowly, doing his best to prolong its suffering, Valosh creates the gelid world of Skygge, the word for shadow from yet another dead and forgotten language. Skygge and Ao Marama begin a slow dance around the obstructing Pearl, each unwilling to look upon the other.

Toxic fly-trap sedges and sticky reeds slowly fill the swamps, forming clumps that float around, making the misty waster of Skygge an unnavigable and ever-shifting maze. Carnivorous, they survive by eating the swarms of furry mosquitoes that breed in the stagnant waters, who prey upon the poisonous fanged toads who in turn eat both mosquitoes and plants.

Valosh next creates the pathetic and near-blind Ihmisen on Skygge, giving them only enough sight that they would know what they could never have. He enjoyed their suffering like a fine wine as they sluggishly waded through the icy waters and biting cold of Skygge, slowly dying as they desperately sought warmth and sustenance, covered in painful mosquito bites. They alternatively pleaded with and cursed Valosh, many trying to carve away the spirals branded upon their chests with rocks.

Almost reluctantly Valosh planted groves of heavily gnarled trees in the swamps of Skygge, the Ovoce, whose extensive root systems drilled into the heart of Skygge without mercy, extracting it's lifeblood and forming cherry-red fruit.

Desperately, the Ihmisen climb the trees, gaining gashes from their wicked thorns, and many times falling to their death in the crushing gravity of the planet, eating and rubbing the fruits of their bodies, their improved body heat allowing them to barely survive despite scalded mouths and skins. The opinions of the Ihmisen became even more divided, with some seeing this as proof of Valosh's worthlessness as a deity, and the rest seeing it as instead as evidence of his absolute authority, with the wavering of the heretics being the reason for any flaws.

Small tribes of Ihmisen begin to form around the groves of Ovoce. Heretics who denounce Valosh are sacrificed to his representatives, the Ovoce, by having their intestines wrapped around an Ovoce trunk while the heretic is still alive, cruel thorns stabbing into their flesh as their bodies are pressed against the bark. Scavenging toads eagerly feed on the flesh of the still living Ihmisen as they slowly bleed out. The priests of Valosh, his druids, now lead the Ihmisen tribes.

The delicate social dynamics of the Ihmisen are again disrupted as Valosh creates the Acedia, master climbers who scamper among the Ovoce, gluttonously feasting on the fruit, causing a famine among the Ihmisen. Unrest increases as more and more Ihmisen begin muttering of "fires" they have seen in their dreams, the positions of the druids becoming ever more precarious.

The gods all feel a hint of danger from the Acedia

With the last of his divine power, Valosh multiplies the planetary banks of ice crystals that fill the upper atmosphere of Skygge, turning the world into a shining jewel from the outside as it reflects nearly all light. With a sigh of relief he sinks below the cloud cover, finally escaping the cloying light of the bubble in his personal sanctuary.

But he cannot rest too easily, because without the protection of his divine power, he can feel the persistent tendrils of the Devourer steadily trying to infiltrate his body.

The tenebrous flames become more sinister, the black ocean more impenetrable, as the pearl-spiral's hooks become ever more horrific, and the melody of creation gains yet more undertones of cruelty and darkness.

The gelid swamp-world of Skygge is created.
Carnivorous plants, blood-sucking mosquitoes and omnivorous toads appear on Skygge.
8 units of Ihmisen are created. 2 units die in the harsh conditions of Skygge.
5 units are faithful to Valosh while 1 has become apostate
Ovoce are created on Skygge
Acedia are created on Skygge, they are potentially tainted by Nothing.
The world of Skygge is made almost completely lightless as light is reflected by the upper atmosphere
Having used all his acts, Valosh has begun to be consumed by the Devourer.
Cruelty gains 1 Sphere alignment
Darkness gains 1 Sphere alignment

Microscopic souls escape from Kiln in a never-ending stream as it twirls and dances, diving to Ao Maram below. From them sprout continent sized crooning kelp forests, who begin to lash out and consume the algae blocking their sunlight. Mountainous coral reefs soon joined the kelp, giving shelter to humming eels and dancing boxfish, who kept the reefs clear of the smothering algae.

Humongous rabid squids were the only thing capable of surviving the ever-hungry and constricting kelp forests, ripping them apart for sustenance in pack-hunting feeding frenzies, and even attacking and sometimes managing to slay the previously unopposed whalesharks in their hunger.

Uncountable clutches of large crocodiles spawned on the sandy beaches of Ahitereiria, and head inland, surviving on the singing cacti that began to grow there.

Coral reefs and omnivorous kelp forests are created
Eels, boxfish and squid are created
Land Crocodiles and Singing Cacti are created

The Song of the Outcasts calls to the homeless remnants

As the gods busy themselves for the act of creation, a moon-sized mass of metal breaks through a thin non-layer of the Devourer that had been weakened by the repeated battering of the Golden Bubble, and nears its terrifying exterior. Blights of yawning non-existence pockmark its surface, as churning machinery attempts to fight off the Devouring infection with acid and lightning.

It spends some time merely catching what glimpses of the inside of the bubble it can through the concealing darkness, before speaking to the gods in a voice of grinding gears and screeching metal.

"This humble moon greets the noble divinities of this wonder. From years away, the symphony called to me, singing of those who have been cast out. I am Agon, once one of the many moons of magnificent Pharso... lost Pharso. I would request asylum from your greatnesses. In return, I would vow to teach the inhabitants of whatever world I was assigned to all I know of metal, for even diseased as I am, there is very little that escapes me of its secrets. May your hearts melt in the furnace of my sincerity"

If you wish to allow Agon entry into your bubble, two minor acts would need to be spent to transport him to the inside. Be aware that Agon is visibly infected with nothingness. In return for this great favour, Agon has promised to teach the inhabitants of a single world all the secrets of metal, and would likely be agreeable to further requests.

Through the actions of the gods reality strengthens, even as the insidious poison of the Devourer slowly eats away at its foundations.

Reality is stabilizing (39/100 Stability)
The gods are significant

Gazing into the already beautiful world of Ao Marama, Nixitar happened upon the crocodiles.  As varied as the ocean creatures were, they were still too far out of his domain to be of greatest interest.  The crocodiles would be excellent candidates for sapience; the spark of the mind which elevates a world beyond mere primordial existence to heights hardly dreamt.

Use one Act to uplift 6 units of crocodiles to sapience and worship of me, as well as giving them a slightly more humanoid appearance, to use tools.  They shall be henceforth named the Noll.  Use one Deed to encourage them in the discovery of fire.

Valosh spends two minor acts to allow Agon access to the sphere.

"Welcome, tainted one. I desire your services. Go to the planet Skygge and teach the inhabitants of metal; or rather, teach only the inhabitants loyal to I, the deity Valosh. This shall hopefully convert any remaining nonbelievers to my faith. Make it clear to the nonbelievers while you are there that servitude to myself is the only way to survive."

Valosh appears to be growing weaker with each act he expends.

Unacceptable, the others were acting faster than the old smith. He clearly was getting out of touch.

Immediately he began as he promised, raising a mighty city for the Noll. Made from magnificent marble it would last eons. A mighty city with fortifications to last any siege, with aqueducts and cunning sewers and ingenious wells. In the Midst of it all he raised a mighty city as of yet unnamed, it was upon the Noll to name it.

When he saw the sphere of metal, Agon, he knew immediately that he had found a kindred spirit.

Do not trust the words of this foolish Cruel Beast, Agon, come to me and i will mend your wounds and fix that which is broken. In return teach the Noll of Steel and Ore. I will oil your gears, afix them to their predestined places, purge the infestation and if you wish even improve it.

And you Nixitar, should know better. If you are not willing in your capacity to purge the refugee of his infestation i will help him.

Spend One Act on Creating a City of Marble for the Noll. It has all amenities one could wish for: Aqueducts, Heated Baths, Sewers and Wells. It is also outfitted with Fortifications that can withstand any Siege (of pre-industrial weapons).

Spend another Act to bring Agon into the Sphere AND heal him from his infestation. If required invest more than one act to purge the infestation. Bring him into Orbit around Ao Marama. (Standing Orders to invest more than Valosh to bring Agon "under influence" of Wieland.)

2 DEEDS: put Wielands personal effort into fixing, repairing and healing Agon and also improving him if possible and if wished.

Foolishness to allow this one into the Pearl's radiance; my mind is clear of such folly. Deal with consequences lest we all fall.

The leviathan opened her mouth and spat out a remnant of a people long gone; a small white egg. The leviathan considered dipping into her memories, a reminder of better days...but that would be playing to the Devourer's desires. No, she would act now and without delay. She took the egg and sang to it in the tongues of ancient whales, of worlds long dead and gone. With the spirits of the ocean dead and the remnant of an old race, she divided the egg many times over and created the Pouhaki.

Pleased with her creation, she descended into Ao Marama and began to bend its dwellers to her will.

1 Act: Create 6 units of Pouhaki on Aotearoa  and nearby islands, intelligent omnivorous kiwis the size of men possessing a pseudobeak which contains both an actual octopus-like beak and four-pairs of tentacles used for grasping.  Pouhaki lay their eggs sacs in water. Pouhaki can stay underwater for somewhat longer than their body would suggest. Not the best swimmers.
1 Deed: teach the Pouhaki the use of tools. Teach them through story and riddle, promising only a clear answer to those who pray to her.
1 Deed: seek out the largest squids of the world and make them fear me. Telepathically tell them to obey my will. If they resist, devour them.

Kiln watched as the Ihmisen suffered. Kiln watched as the Noll began to learn of life. Kiln watched as the Pouhaki were spread across their new world. The voices bade that a gift be given, to ease and drive and encourage. To let all know how to give voice. And so Kiln did as bade and wove a rhythm deeper into the fabric of this realm, deeper into the souls and minds of all who grew and were made into this world, to let all know the potential they had to make and create and share the joys and sorrows they knew.

Mighty Act: Instill the essence of Music and Song into all of the realm protected by the Pearl, with a pervasiveness affecting the very soul of life created and life growing, giving all a heart to bring together sounds and voices to form all sorts of music and to guide all to make all sorts of melodies and harmonies.

Deed: Improve the above.

Kiln then approached the Apostate Ihmisen and it was sung to them a tune of togetherness and gentleness, to let them know that they were not alone and that Valosh was not all that was in this world.

Deed: Sing to the Apostate Ihmisen of the things they had thought impossible to exist.

Valosh hears Kiln begin to sing. Fury begins to boil within him.

Valosh expends a deed to deafen all apostate Ihmisen, stripping them of their ears and further reducing their chances of survival.

Valosh then expends his other deed to cause a rapid growth of Ovoce trees around the majority of Valoshian Ihmisen.
