Turn 15: If I don't update by Friday, yell at me.

INIT:
Talking is a Free Action(true)

Claim that not all villains are all evil, that some can try and repent, etc.

"Well... not all villains are completely evil! Like me! And on top of that, some can even repent and go over to the side of good!"

"Hm! That is true, but thus far I have seen no sign of you going over to the side of good. And it is quite possible that you are attempting to deceive me in order to avoid being taken captive!"

Point out that it's kind of hard for me to close the loop if I'm paralyzed and stuck in a jail cell.

"Uh... if I'm paralyzed and stuck in a jail cell, I can't really close the loop... and boom, time paradox..."

"Perhaps so. What exactly is required for you to close this loop you speak of?"

Hold onto my haunt it has to be used right! For ultimate misfortune or hilarity

AbstractTraitorHero waits.

"Hm. Well, firstly, I'll need to be the last combatant standing. Then I have to find the "earlier" version of this tablet, copy all the information in the later one over, and send the early one to past me. After that, I can do basically anything without causing a paradox. Including willingly submitting myself to a trial, or however you want this to work."

Tell him it's also quite possible that I'm innocent and that every precious minute we waste results in a patient waiting longer at the hospital.

Turn 16: This might take a while.

INIT:
Still not relevant.

"So... the death of Mr. Doctor is required for you to prevent a time paradox? I don't much like that..."

Tell him it's also quite possible that I'm innocent and that every precious minute we waste results in a patient waiting longer at the hospital.

"Yes, it is possible that you're innocent. However, I was informed of your evilness by the great and just Null Nevermore. So it's your word against his. And... I don't have any proof that you're a doctor."

"Doesn't necessarily have to be death. A stun-and-jail approach would work just as well, and similar methods of permanent or indefinite incapacitation would presumably satisfy the conditions of the loop."

"And how would anyone trust data I collect on myself to prove I'm innocent? That isn't the least bit scientific."

"And how would anyone trust data collected by myself? That isn't the least bit scientific."

"Indeed it would be, if you were actually the one collecting the data. In this case, it is being recorded by an impartial machine. The only task which need include bias is interpretation, which may be done by any of us after the fact."

"I will admit that, under ordinary circumstances, the scanned and the scanner would not make much of a difference. However, powers may be tied to either you or your device. The only way to ensure the validity of the data is to use both, such that we test all possible ways the alleged ability could manifest."

Well then. Didn't realize I had the posts needed to update.

Turn 17: Debate, mates!

"Doesn't necessarily have to be death. A stun-and-jail approach would work just as well, and similar methods of permanent or indefinite incapacitation would presumably satisfy the conditions of the loop."

"Wonderful. Hmmmmm... so as long as I handle the doctor first, and give you some time to make your tablet, I can avoid a time paradox. I like that."

"I always treat people who are sick. You know that, right?"

"I only have your word for it-"

Roll my eyes.

"Yeah, you try and use that X-ray on whoever you want to kill. I'd bet you that thing causes disease rather than finding it."

"EH?"

"Preposterous! It's just an ordinary X-ray machine. Here, try it on me!"

Science!

Whisperling's tablet starts speaking as _DivideByZero_ aims his tablet at him. "By the way? X-ray machines? Use highly dangerous X-rays. Guess what? You're not wearing a lead vest."

Scan!(2) vs. Dodge, Assisted By Precognition(10+3-1-1=11)

Whisperling pivots, sending himself to the side, managing to dodge a burst of X-rays launched from _DivideByZero_'s device.

"If you really want to cover all the bases, why not use it on yourself?"

"And how would anyone trust data I collect on myself to prove I'm innocent? That isn't the least bit scientific."

"Ah... well. Wait a minute. I could just stun you both and work this all out once you're in custody. Let's do that."

Stun Ray!
Stun Ray!

Resist, Whisperling(1-2-2=-3)
Resist, _DivideByZero_(7-2=5)

And... Whisperling? He fell unconscious in an instant, likely stunned for a lot more than one turn.

_DivideByZero_ didn't do too much better.

Exit Doctor. Exit Whisperling. Exit, _DivideByZero_.
~~~
Probably would have kept the test going if not for both of the remaining players expressing a "finish up" sentiment.
~~~
Epilogue:

Null Nevermore picked up the tablet. "Rather helpful that I sound so similar to Whisperling, eh?" The face on the tablet morphed into Null's. "Of course, we could have just changed my voice a bit if I didn't, right?" "Completely correct. Now then. Nullification of space-time fabric..." A portal opened in the air, and Null tossed the tablet through it, where it was promptly caught by Whisperling in the past.
~~~
And that's that.
