Funnily enough, that almost exactly crossed my mind too, I just didn't bother to edit it in.

Slow down Mr. Hoover, we've still got plenty of trainwreck left to suffer.

He did stop it from getting worse. Unlike Hoover.

While Hoover was mostly SOL from the time he came into office, you are correct in that Hoover handled the Great Depression poorly.

Though at least we can say that Hoover faced something that was thought to be impossible.

It is like seeing a 20 foot tall dog :P

But that is all the credit I am willing to give...

---

What should have Hoover done in the Great Depression anyhow?

I am genuinely asking, I don't know what policies a government should enact during a depression of that magnitude.

The New Deal, essentially. Hoover's policies were all far too small, indirect, and private sector focused. They were massively ineffective, and in at least one instance missed a clear window to exit the depression early.

This all stemmed from the enduring belief that the depression wasn't a true depression and would all blow over soon. Sound familiar?

Before minimum wage was a thing, companies would simply lower wages during bad times, meaning mostly everybody kept their jobs. The economy would fix itself over time.

However, since minimum wage was implimented, the economy was no longer going to fix itself. Hoover and company did not realize this, and still legitimately thought the economy would fix itself, but the government needed to get involved.
