Slightly late, but:
I'm so confused why people think having useless individuals dependent on fragile institutions is a good thing
It's a basis of our society. Without having people be taught to depend on each other in almost all things in life, including food production, there would be no division of labor, and without division of labor, there would be no progress above the level of hunterers-gatherers. That would be a very good reason for why people are indoctrinated into dependence on fragile institutions.

In other news, the old game of sacking spies continues.

EDIT:
Okay, remember this?
In more interesting news, Assange has confirmed himself as a Russian shill:

Quote
Assange, who briefly hosted his own talkshow on the state-owned television network Russia Today, has long had a close relationship with the Putin regime. In his interview with la Repubblica, he said there was no need for WikiLeaks to undertake a whistleblowing role in Russia because of the open and competitive debate he claimed exists there.

Ahahahahah. Haha. Ha.
It was kind of... fake. A deliberate misinterpretation of the original interview, made to fit it in the NeoMcCarthyist narrative.

Seems like I have to add another newspaper in the "do not trust" list.

Not necessarily true. The Senate Republicans seem to have by and large agreed to an anti-Russian stance, and that Trump can't just ignore.

He ignored them for basically the entire election season. And, while that could be chalked up to the election-related weirdness, there's definitely a precedent for Republican establishment bending over backwards to Trump even in the most baffling situations - remember when Trump called McCain a loser for getting caught, and then McCain endorsed him, anyway?

Heh, which is why I think they're just playing him.  He offended so many powerful people, and he's so vulnerable.  He has to be their puppet.
It's just unfortunate that they're willing to play nice for power, but maybe that's how they became powerful.

There is a difference between "Republicans subservient to their spiritual liege" and "Senators subservient to the President".

Opposing the Republican Nominee is one thing, but I know of Republican Senators who ran on a pledge to oppose the next President, whomever they may be.

So America kicks out Russian diplomats, then Russia takes the high ground and says American diplomats are welcome to stay. Then they go a step further, and invite our kids to attend their Christmas party.

Damnit Obama...you were so close to leaving the office with dignity.

Obama also kinda just threw a pretty nice excuse on Trump's lap to do some major changes in american foreign policy. Pretty sure republicans will say Obama just wants to push a more fragile and less stable US onto Trump's administration so the less intelligent (and more anti trump biased) votes can more easily just outright blame Trump for any of the resulting effects.

Whats the actual deal with all of it? Hell if I know, but I was never a fan of obama's foreign policy, and he just kinda went full ultra dweeb with it.

Were you REALLY ever going to concede to him a scrap of respect?  :P
Nah...  In this action, he actually won back a measure of respect and dignity.  Instead of continuing to court the Republicans, he took a strong stance against plausible election tampering.  Even if it comes to naught, this was FINALLY a bold move from the president we elected for perceived boldness.  (And then reelected because the Republicans literally did not try, because they wanted a democrat to take the blame)

But it is what it is.  8 years of a DINO.  Talked a progressive game, accomplished very little of it.  Even at first when Congress was theoretically sympathetic.

And now for another 8 years of Bush Jr, another stooge taking blame for barely concealed agendas.

that's not what happened at all, he is on tape joking about this very topic when Trump raised concerns (founded concerns, see: Detroit) and now ran a convenient stance on plausible but totally unsubstantiated tampering (report is out, loads of big words and no substance)

Uh let's not forget that the reason for kicking out the diplomats (meddling with the elections) is rather valid and serious.
