Also, why would the article's title make you think 'damn neo-nazi's'?
Because the media echo chamber apparently made people think that Trump's victory will result in Neo-Nazis occupying USA, repealing all the Amendments (except for the 2nd one), and banning elections.

Fuck the media.

Shitty neo-nazis. Every facist regime knows the first step is to ban the guns

I dunno if you were serious, but that's actually wrong. Nazi gun laws actually deregulated the permit system to remove restriction on non-handguns and make gun licences easier to get (unless you were a jew).
So, yes Nazis took the guns 9_9

Bolded the part you missed for emphasis.

The progressives are already fighting back against the establishment.

Having some discord in the Dem party may actually be a good thing so that they can figure out what they really need to do and where they really want to go. Both parties need a shakeup anyway.
Well, naturally they're discussing it in terms of pulling in one section while the other two portions weaken each other to ensure a more or less permanent Trumpublican majority.

Actually, it feels more like it might be roughly equivalent to the period in 1968 and 1970 that the Dems went through.

That's nearly impossible. Unless Trump magicks up the work for the all poor people who were left behind by technology-driven job loss, he's going to lose the Rust Belt to Democrats the very next election no matter what they do, and without them, he either just loses outright, or is one flipped state away from losing.

I think that's why they were talking about pulling in Bernouts or whatever they were calling them.

Which is always confusing to people who never heard of the Southern Strategy. Showed the missus an election map from 60 I think, she was like "wait, why is Texas blue? and California? What the hell?" so I showed her 64, with damn near everything but the bible belt in blue.

Well looks like someone has fired upon protestors.

It might very well be a: "Ohh, so you SURE that Democrats are the only ones sore?" moment.

But I have a feeling that isn't what happened.

Yep, short of some kind of butlerian jihad, Trump has absolutely no way of bringing jobs back to these people.

Well, he can always get his "libel" laws on the book, and use them to suppress any news of his policies not working.

Well, no, he can't, because he's not got enough to pass a Constitutional amendment.

You don't need to repel the First, you can just stuff SCOTUS with loyalist that won't struck down a libel extension. Or he could get the government's statistics arms to publish more or less phoney results, Argentine-style.

I mean we did see in this thread how people managed to take GOP statistics and make them seem like the US was having a Illegal Immigrant Killing Rampage... simply by manipulating how they got the data.

Physically impossible to do in any effective measure. If USSR was not able to do that, with its super-large state security apparatus and Russian-majority population, then USA certainly cannot do that.

Ok, sorry, you don't need to suppress any news, you only need to get the major networks and newspapers on board, enough to control all the low-information voters. Look at Russia or Hungary.

...I've just given an example of USSR as a country which has failed to convince its people that everything is okay, despite having literally all media under their control and goddamned KGB to prosecute the non-believers. More importantly, it also failed to convince itself of that - you do know that this was why Gorbachev was able to get the leadership, right?

It doesn't really work in modern Russia too, you know. Most people know that the Russian government's policies are not really all that good, and almost everyone knows that they're hella corrupt, it's just that 1) they're still much better than they used to be in the not-so-long-ago, and 2) the "foreign threat of our annihilation" issue is #1 and thus overshadows those two for the time being... the key word here being "time being".

You really should have more faith in democracy, Sheb. It sounds like you don't really believe that it's naturally stronger and more stable than the autocracies, and that their existence could get wiped out in an instant by a single person.

Well, what score did United Russia got at the last elections? I mean, I'm just saying that as long as nothing truly catastrophic happens, it wouldn't take much for Trump to lock in a re-election if he manage to threaten the media into submission.

I think the exact opposite of that, actually - the only real hope Trump has to get re-elected is to have some catastrophic event happen during his Presidency (like a war with Mexico or Iran) that will temporarily unite the nation for the sake of maintaining stability.

If nothing catastrophic happens, then the Rust Belt, seeing their factories still closed, dump Trump and vote Democrats back into the office.
