My men returned fire and like that all went quiet, the dead lie silently, there eyes once so full of life now gone. My rage left me and i ordered my men to bury the dead Norwegians, after all it was the least we could do, and made a formal request for a transport to take Adrian back to Malmö so he could be put to rest with his family by his side. This was my first battle of the war, and would be far from my last, yet even now i wish i could have done something to save Adrian like so many others, i know its not my fault he died yet i still feel like i could have done something to possibly save him.

Trying to get a feel for GIMP so that I can potentially have some custom unit textures, though if things don't seem to work out, we'll have to resort to what Hexographer has to offer. Utilizing GIMP AND Hexographer at the same to create one image is likely to add a large portion of time it takes to process and display turns though but once I get some level of proficiency in layering and transparency, we'll see how much time it adds.

Either way, we're likely to start up with the next battle in about 13 hours from the time of posting this. I'm going to try and have breaks of, say, 12 hours in between each battle so that people (mostly me :P ) don't get too overwhelmed as well as providing me with time to create or consider the next battle and so on. Besides, that's usually how long it takes me before I can get to my computer again anyway, give or take an hour or two.

Yep. Funny that you mention it, I'm actually typing up the next battle right now. Would've done it sooner but I got distracted by imgur posts. :P

Mid 1921

Location: Not too far northwest of Gothenburg.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Briefing:

You and your squads have been redeployed to a rural area just northwest of Gothenburg. The Norwegians have been pressing their advance into southern Sweden and have almost reached the city. We mustn't let them continue their assault, as Gothenburg contains a decent amount of industry dedicated to producing armaments for the war.

We believe that the enemy will be deploying armored cars in this area, so a light AT gun squad has been provided for you in this battle. As well, your position has been fortified in preparation for the Norwegians, so you have notable cover in terms of two small bunkers and some sandbag emplacements. Be reluctant to retreat, as we do not want the enemy any closer to the city than they already are, but if odds are heavily against you then retreat to the outskirts of the city and set up there.

One of your available squads (3rd Infantry Squad) consists of fresh Gothenburgian volunteers who are determined to help fend off the invaders. While they are extra manpower, they have not undergone as much training as would be hoped for.

Objectives:

-(Optional) Hold the line.
-If failed, retreat to Gothenburg and fortify.

Assume Combat Positions!

Available Squads:

None

Claimed Squads:

AT Squads can move 1 tile a turn with their AT guns. However, they have the option of abandoning the gun in order to move the normal two tiles of an infantry squad.

AT guns can target vehicles (With their AP shells) or infantry (with their HE shells).

AT guns are given an AP level, on a range from 1-10, which determines how effectively they penetrate armor. Enemy AFVs are given an armor level on a range from 1-10 as well. AT guns can target any AFV, but for each armor level above an AT gun's AP level, a -20 modifier is added to the attack roll. For each AP level ABOVE the targeted enemy AFV, a +20 modifer is added to the roll.

For example, your Light AT gun here has an AP level of 2. If the AT gun attacks a vehicle with an armor value of 1, then +20 is added to the AT gun's attack roll. If it were to go against a 2 Armor level vehicle, then no Armor modifier is added or subtracted. If it goes against a 3 Armor level vehicle, then the attack roll is subtracted by 20.

When an enemy infantry squad is attack with HE shells the attack roll determines whether or not it was a hit. If it IS a hit, then a 1d6 is rolled to determine how many troops are killed in the attack.

AT guns act as light cover for the entire squad in control of it.

The Sami had lived in Scandinavia for thousands of years, in peace and prosperity. Unfortunately, as the "Industrial Revolution" began to ramp up, it seemed that the march of progress had left them behind. In Norway, social-darwinists in the government had discriminated against the "backwards and inferior" Sami, attempting to assimilate them through "Norwegianization" policies. Sweden and Finland were less outright in their discrimination, but life wasn't easy in those countries, either. The new war opened a great divide in the Sami tribes, as many families that regularly crossed the border were torn in half.

This all ran through Mihkkal Kappfjell's head as he surveyed the field. Mihkkal's father, a Sami land speculator who made a small fortune off of land in northern Sweden, had paid for his tuition at a prestigious Stockholm university. When the war broke out, the young student found his way to a recruiting office, hoping to win fame and fortune on the battlefield. Now, he was a young lieutenant in the 8th, commanding a single light field gun.

The officer snapped out of his trance as a branch snapped under the gun's wheels. The two men manning the gun finished rolling it up to the sandbags, and the young officer began barking orders in his northern timbre. "Camouflage the gun as best you can, then watch the road. Understood?" After a couple quick affirmatives, Mihkkal strolled off to check in with the others. "This should be easy, no? Kill a few Norwegians, then head back into town to relax."

Action: AT Gun and Crew hides in the forested tile they're currently in and wait.

For the sake of speeding things along, I'll go ahead and take control of the squad in about 30 minutes if no one comes forward.

You know, I'll go ahead and take control of it. I was getting frustrated with the game I was playing anyways. :P

Will get to setting up the battle post and such. One moment please!

"I hope so, Lieutenant, I hope so." Sergeant Perrson replies. He takes a pause before speaking again. "Say Mihkkal, will this your first battle, bearing the Norwegians come?"

They would come against us again, this time with more then just a few men. The first battle was like training compared to what would face me next, if you could call any part of real life or death combat training.

After a couple quick affirmatives, Mihkkal strolled off to check in with the others. "This should be easy, no? Kill a few Norwegians, then head back into town to relax."

"I hope so, Lieutenant, I hope so." Sergeant Perrson replies. He takes a pause before speaking again. "Say Mihkkal, will this your first battle, bearing the Norwegians come?"
"First battle or not we will ambush them like last time, they wont have much time to react."

"My first battle, yes. I was commissioned at the outbreak of the war, and I've only just now reached the front. I heard you killed a few Norwegians yourself up north, Perrson." The young officer glanced down the road at the abandoned farmhouse, before looking at his anti-tank position.

"I suppose I should return to my position, then. I don't want to be caught over here when the shooting starts."

Battle Commences

Spoiler: Battlescape (click to show/hide)

Action: AT Gun and Crew hides in the forested tile they're currently in and wait.

The 1st AT Squad hunkers down in the combination of bushes, trees, and sandbag emplacements. The gun operators huddle around their AT gun situated behind a low sandbag wall. They aim it directly down the road, ready to fire upon any targets. The squad is hidden.

I should mention, the AT gun has a range of three, the same as your line of sight range and rifle range.

You guys already start off mostly set up in terms of positioning, though are there any particular orders you guys want to give to your squads?

Also, squads in bunkers are hidden, but the enemy expects enemies to be within them, so they approach cautiously with combat in mind.

Begin Turn 1

"It would have been nice if there was a little more cover up ahead we could use to ambush them but i now doubt thats possible, no matter, when they come they will fall."
