Sad that Civ6 was in the works before Beyond Earth became its own, proper game. I like the setting better, at least, even if it wasn't nearly as fleshed out as Alpha Centauri.

So I went to go replay Civ 5 after watching TB's stream. I was wondering how to get achievements working while also using mods. Turns out it's fairly simple as you just have to change the mods into DLC.

But that seems pretty futile... because when it comes to achievement hunting. Goddamn... what were they thinking? How is any mortal human supposed to do all that?!

Often you can get many achievements in one run, as often it's just like - do X as King or higher, do X as Emperor or higher, etc etc, so beating any of the scenarios on diety nets you usually a bunch of achievements.

But it's still tedious and pointless to get them all.

It's funny you mention that because it turns out that in Civ 5, each difficulty counts for its own.

So if you beat the game on diety it only counts for diety and nothing else. So if you want to get the achievement for beating it on easy, you have to go beat it on easy too.

It's nuts.

Much has been made of the building complexity of the nation themes, but I'm not sure about the song choice. It might be hard to play as America with the music on, because it's just such a damn poignant song that it makes you want to sit back and sing the words when you hear it for more than a few moments.

I don't think they were designed with the idea that people would try to get all of them, but with the idea that your actions would be recognized, and you'd always have options if you use cheevos as playthrough suggestions.

Already have diety done. I did it because I thought it would give me all the difficulty achievements at the same time.

But like I mentioned, nope. The devs decided you need to do every single difficulty level.

But like I mentioned, nope. The devs decided you need to do every single difficulty level.

There's two types of achievements in regard to difficulty. There is the basic one, which comes down to beating the game once on every difficulty, and the description reads 'beat on X difficulty'. I think you're referring to this one, for which indeed beating a higher difficulty doesn't clear the lower ones.

Then there's the one I was referring to, which is mostly related to scenarios, and the achievement description reads as 'beat on X difficulty or higher'. For these achievements beating the game on diety clears all others. So for example beating the Mongol scenario on diety will get you at least 3 difficulty related achievements (diety, inmortal and emperor, maybe also king, I don't remember if there is one for king).

Anyway, if you're about hunting the first mentioned 'basic' difficulty achievements, you can do the Settler through King achiements in less than a hour, each time start on a duel sized pangaea map with only Venice as adversary, pick the Huns or another early powerhouse and simply walk through them. It's boring, but compared to some of the other achievements, especially scenario related ones, it's ridiculously easy and fast.

Man I figuratively just can't wait.  I've got friday off.  May Gandi's wrath reign down on my roommate and not me.

I'm playing a game right now so I'll put my thoughts as I go.

1. Haha, it's nice to have a game that's not 40gb in size. Only 5gb instead.

2. Game setup sucks dick. You have fewer options than before. You can't determine how many city states. There's so few map options. There's no "earth map" option that I can find.

3. Why is Ghandi speaking English to me?

4. I discovered another continent on the same continent as my own. I don't understand. Apparently Africa and Siberia share the same landmass?

Arrrg, it won't unlock for me for another 7 hours.  :)  I have to fill the time with work/booze/movies.

Yeah, apparently continents can be connected because otherwise some of the agenda's get wonky.  (Americans I think?)  Apparently there is an overlay somewhere so you can see where exactly the continent borders are.

Just started my pre-load, which is good because it won't be finished until some time after noon tomorrow. Damn campus internet. This should be good.
