Ye Gods 3: Actual Lite OOC [21/30]
« on: April 27, 2016, 11:53:07 am »

After not one but two YG god games failed due to overcomplication, I present the hopefully actually streamlined YG3: Actual Lite! Implement scalar power levels! Declare things untouchable! Actually enforce stuff! Make angels into a special class! Make magic more powerful than the gods! Implement an alignment system and rage if you get marked evil!

Rules
Keep IC in IC and OOC on OOC! This applies doubly to arguments! (Violations will result in warnings)
Do not lie/mislead in OOC! (Violations will result in warnings)
Accumulating three (3) warnings will result in suspension for one (1) week. Warnings decay by two (2) per week.
Do not try to exploit a lack of rules, especially for free Essence/worshipers! (Violations will result in things going horribly and unreproduceably wrong)

Actions
Actions, including voting, should be bolded/underlined/otherwise made visible to prevent the dreaded action-skipping.

Opposition
Opposing free actions for free is successful at a 1:2 support:oppose ratio. For non-free actions, the probability of succesful opposition scales as follows:
FactorProbability
0.5x5%
0.8x30%
1.0x50%
1.5x75%
2.0x and up95%

Mechanics
Note: The following are possibly changeable by petition
  • Individual gods cannot create a.) worshipers, b.) equipment, c.) similar complex creations at the GM's discretion without unambiguous rules/pricing for such creations.
  • Influence income is derived from miniquests/opportunities determined weekly for those around/below the first quartile in worship income and is on par with worship income on average (but also more prone to GM whimsy :P)
  • Essence capacity increases mostly through spending and also through overflow.
  • Reaching 0E means death. (The GM will request approval to complete actions resulting in self-death, thus preventing negligent suicide. 0E is also the lowest achievable Essence amount without godslayers or such things)
  • Gods at 0E may be revived to 5E through a donation of 10E
  • Unrevived gods at or below 0E will lose 1-2E each Tick.
  • Reaching -5E means permadeath. Reaching a non-frivolous permadeath (i.e. a non-suicide/stupid charge against someone with a known godslayer) allows the use of an unopposable dying curse within the following constraints:
    • Effect would consume at most 10E normally
    • Effect is either targeted at the attacker or the attacker's allies
    • Effect is related to one's sphere(s)
  • Combat is based on a streamlined d20-like system
    • Essence may typically be spent on boosts to attack, defense, or initiative and lasts for the duration of the fight
  • If KJP gets bored with a class of actions, funny (to KJP) random things will start happening instead

Note: The following are changeable by the Council
  • Gods have 20E to be spent on stuff (possible changes to propose: Add Ichor/Crux)
  • The Council deicides everything else (including prices and worship value)
  • Worship income is currently set with a break-even interval of 4 Ticks, although proposals are on the way that may change this

Essence income
Worship: 1 Essence per Tick per 1000 worshippers

Influence: Eligibility for influence income requires a.) worship income at or below -1σ excluding the highest quartile and b.) at least 5 non-trivial (~non-bump) posts/PMs the previous week

Those eligible to receive influence income will receive an average of 5 (give or take around 2) miniquests/opportunities per week, each granting, at base, 1.5 times the mean worship income. Adjustments may be made to the reward based on the level of success or failure. The influence calibration Tick day will likely be set to the first day a non-zero worship income appears. Not all miniquests/opportunities will be designed to be easily completeable (or completeable without stirring up interactions with worship-favoring gods); this contributes to why the average weekly income from 100% completion of influence opportunities/miniquests is comfortably above average.

Council Mechanics
  • Proposals require three unopposed votes or a supermajority of 66% to pass
  • There is no justice system (yet?)
  • The Council may elect to delegate control over something to the GM, also via a proposal. (This is reversible)

Creation
Base costs
Non-sapients, non-powerful animals/plants: 0E
Sapients (worshippers): 4E/1000, multiplicative with traits
Artifacts: Unknown, cannot be created unless guaranteed traitless
Planets, worlds: 20E

Wonders
Wonders are expensive projects of great power and value. While collaborators are not strictly required, having help from gods with certain spheres may result in the wonder in question gaining free extra effects.

GM approval is required to produce wonders partly because of their high variability and power.

Wonders with decently developed mechanics:
  • Divine Library: Provides access to non-player lore aka what passes for creative writing for KJP
  • Oracle: Provides answers and insights available to the GM at a fee
  • Timeline Pliers: Allows playing with the timeline
  • Great Anchor: Prevents playing with the timeline near its Tick of construction
  • Lie Detector: Reveals whether other gods actually believe what they're saying
  • Divine Forge: Requires Essence to operate but provides a discount on artifacts (set at creation) and an artifact effect bonus (also set at creation)
  • Loom of Fate: Allows for transferring luck between gods for a price (never less than the luck transferred)
  • Godslayer (sort of) (base 60E): A non-unique artifact type allowing for permakilling

Wonder pricing is based on filling a price quota (listed here as the base price). Wonder features, positive and negative, affect Wonder prices by modifying the quota up or down. Creations intended to be wonders must be thematically connected in some minor way; creating a godslayer from a massive super-intelligent 60E milk jug will not work, but creating a godslayer from a 60E individual/rock will.

Pantheons?
Pantheons are treated as mini-Councils, and they are able to do most anything with effects restricted to the Pantheon. (Gaining free Essence out of nowhere is not allowed for fairly obvious reasons.)

Character sheets
Code: [Select]
Name: Something not reminiscent of 20-_-ubertitan-_-16
Primary form: More for flavor rather than crunch (barring a Council ruling otherwise)
Symbol: Mostly for occasional fanart/most definitely educational and not silly infographics
Spheres: Up to two, must not be too meta (need not be unique)
Friends, Enemies: If applicable and public (in-universe friends/enemies!)
Description/Background: In which a god is described. From-mortal origin stories seem to be unpopular, so avoid them unless your diplomacy is top-notch.

Updates
Ticks will hopefully be 24±2 hours long, likely centering around 04:00 UTC (21:00 PDT). There will likely be no Ticks until 2016-04-30 04:00 UTC (2016-04-29 21:00). In-universe, Ticks either last for indeterminate but reasonable lengths of time or are determined by the Council (or some time-regulating committee thereof).

Traits
Basic traits
Strength [1.5]: Is strong
Intelligence [1.5]: Is smart
Wisdom [1.5]: Is sensible
Endurance [1.5]: Is able to withstand physical stimuli
Dexterity [1.5]: Is quick
Charisma [1.5]: Is likable
Size [1.5]: Is big

Specific [One of above traits] [Speciality] [1.3]: Has good <trait> when dealing with this situation. E.g, 'Specific Dexterity: Ocean'.
Basic Trait Changer: [Trait]-1: Is poorer with the specific attribute. Reduces particular trait cost by x2, for total of x0.75. Incompatible with normal version of trait.

Each of the above traits can be upgraded by adding a +1/2/3 to the end, doubling the cost per tier.

Artifact traits
Personality *2 - This artifact has a personality of its own, and means to influence people to its bidding. How it influences them and in what quantities is dependent of the personality.

Civilization traits
Craftsmanship [1.5]: Will consistently produce higher quality crafted works than other races

Environment traits
Amphibious: Can breathe on land and underwater 1.75
Aquatic: Can breathe underwater but not on land 1.0
Environmental Specialization: A creature created to live in a certain environment will obtain all traits necessary for doing so for free, but take a significant penalty outside of such environs. This proposal would subsume the existing Aquatic trait, and any other specific environmental traits. Examples: an underwater species would gain the abilities to breathe water and swim freely, but would be severely hampered and unable to breathe on land.
Extremophile [1.3]: Better adapted to living in severe environmental conditions
Flight: 1.5x: Will let the creature fly
[Inorganic Material]: Living." Creatures with this trait are made of the specified material and receive all of the advantages and disadvantages of that material. In order to survive, they still must eat (the material they are made of) and they slowly use it up. This does not make them ageless, or immortal. It costs X 1.6E.
Night Vision: 1.2x: Allows a creature to see in the dark as well as one could see in the day
Subterranean: 1.3x: Allows a creature/person to adjust to life underground easily. It involves better eyesight in low light levels and better endurance and strength to labor underground and carve out a home.

Magic traits
Rune Magic [1.2]: Has an innate ability to enchant items with runes
Nonmagical: 0.75x
Magic Ability: 1.5x: The ability of a creature or race to harness any and all schools of magic. Scales *2 per rank.
Affinity [Magic Type/School][x1.3]: The ability of a creature or race to harness one particular school or type of magic. Scales 2* per rank.
Innate Magic[x1.7]: The creature or race is naturally magical, and may use certain abilities instinctively. Scales 2* per rank for more powerful abilities. ((If someone challenges whether something falls under a given rank(for example, the phoenix ability to be literally on fire or made of fire all of the time would be Innate Magic+2, I think, and fire breath would be Innate Magic+1), it goes to a simple vote like anything else; I plead you, do not challenge unless you really think it's necessary. Like, don't do it just to get a game advantage or try and keep someone weak as it just makes more work for KJP, while this trait otherwise makes far less for him while allowing a multitude of creations))` (Only for public creations)

Vanity traits
Ancestral Memory. (Applies only to non-violent skills and non-magic) Comes in four (technically five) levels:
Quote
-1: Creature has little to no information passed down from ancestors, and lacks everything but the most basic natural instinct. 0.8x cost.
(0: Creature has basic survival instincts passed down from ancestors, but no advanced knowledge. This is the baseline on which most creatures operate and has only been included for the sake of completeness; it's assumed everything possesses this.)
+1: Creature learns skills possessed by ancestors quickly, but not detailed information, which allows development of generally more skillful individuals (due to having effectively more practice with skills) over time. Example: A family of smiths will naturally produce children that are good smiths, even if separated at birth. 1.2x
+2: Creature retains the skill levels of previous generations, but not information. 1.5x
+3: Creature retains skills and information known by previous generations (though things can still be forgotten if not used.) 2.5x
+4: Creature retains violent skills as well, same conditions as +3. 4x
Animate Artifact [x8]: Creature is an animate magic object, and thus capable of thought, movement, and is made of tough materials.
Attack Boost(5): Boosts the attacking/damage ability of artifacts. Scales *2. [ADDED]
Defence Boost(5): Boosts the defense/Endurance ability of artifacts. Scales *2.  [ADDED]
Immortality: 3.0
Martial Arts +1: 1.5x: Good at martial arts. Can hold their own in hand to hand combat.
Martial Arts +2: 3.0x: Great at martial arts. Have a fighting chance against someone with a weapon
Martial Arts +3: 6.0x: Master at martial arts. Able to easily beat down an opponent with a weapon.
Not Alive [5]: A trait that signifies no need for sustenance and a form of immortality that can be maintained through repairs.
Unusual Form[x1.7]: Much like Innate Magic, but for more mundane, physical properties that are unique to the creation, such as a multitude of limbs, or an intense venom. If the uniqueness of the creation's anatomy or physical makeup is not covered by a previously existing trait, such as Innate Magic, Size, or Living Artifact, as examples, then it should be able to be covered by Unusual Form. The more powerful the properties, or the more unlikely the creation is to be able to exist without magical means, the higher ranked the trait must be. Whether it is an acceptable rank for th listed abilities is decided in much the same way as Innate Magic, and like Innate Magic, creations with this trait may not be made in secret. Scales 2* per rank.
Vamperic x4: Creature survives off of blood and slowly grows more powerful from it.

Innate Magic library
Innate Magic (1.7x)
Innate Magic+1 (3.4x)
Innate Magic+2 (6.8x)
Innate Magic+3 (13.6x)

Second god best god.

Name: Charon
Primary form: A tall humanoid that changes gender nearly every sentence, he dresses in an all-concealing robe and always wears a mask to suit all occasions.
Symbol: A skeletal hand gesturing 'okay'.
Spheres: Immortality and Music.
Friends, Enemies: If applicable and public (in-universe friends/enemies!): Those who would embrace entropy will not find themselves invited to Charon's parties very soon. On the flipside, those happy with eternity will enjoy near-constant gift baskets of handpicked jams and fruits.
Description/Background: Charon was once a young god, one born of the Void and thrust into a Bubble like any other. Of course, that was a long time ago and he has seen many a creation consumed oncemore by the Void. Now, a venerable elder, she simply wants to relax and preserve Creation, or at least enjoy it for as long as possible.

Not chronologically :D

Also, Meow is definitely this game's main character. Ergo, he is best god if Charon isn't.

I wouldn't say Meow is the main character. He's simply one who Acts instead of Reacts.

He might be a protagonist, he might be an antagonist, he might simply be that metaphorical fox who steals the hero's lunch, which causes the hero to stumble upon McGeiver #38 and gets said hero started on a world saving/destroying quest.

He's simply someone who makes things happen.
