Devan whispers to the first mate.

"Yeah, she's totally expendable."

Both of you, I can't focus, quiet. I'll board that ship myself if I have to. I just need to get to the center.

((many many sailors in the age of sail didn't know how to swim, so it's not unlikely Devan wouldn't)

((I don't think this is set in any specific time or setting... hence the piratical bureaucrats who are attacking with modern improvised weapons))

"Ahoy there, pirates! Say, are you piratical bureaucrats, or just bureaucratical pirates?"

Wait until the next waft of arrows comes over, then lean over board and urinate on the grappling pirates.

((Even pirates don't like being weed on; they are likely to wipes their faces, thereby letting go of their ropes/hold and falling into the sea; 12 year old boys are pretty good at weeing - it's finally something I won't have to bluff at))

((Bluff: 1 - 1 = 0 | You lean out of cover to gloat before the arrows finish, and get struck in the genitals by an arrow! Uh-oh! Now how will you urinate on thy foes!))

Any enemies who successfully board the ship get murderized.

The captain looks mildly mystified at his crew. Make that, nearly baffled.

"Well, looks like we have enough speed to get past the ship ... it's the bloody boarders that are the biggest problem ... that and the archers on the shore! Of course, if Devan want's to try again to put a hole in that ship a litle closer to the water line, that might possibly help a little. Either way. We're all probably gonna die, since we've overestimated the value of the speed this ship is making. I cannot believe how many piurates are able to hook ropes onto us like this!"

I don't know .. .evasive maneuvers! tilt the ship away from the other ship so any jumpers have an angeld deck to land on and roll off, and make sure that tilt gives the archers a view of the belly of the ship, not the deck.

"Brace yourselves, lads and lasses!"

"Sinking her now is a bad idea. With all those grapples on us she'd pull us down with her. For that matter, we'll need to cut the grapples to escape.

Anyone have a long ranged cutting weapon?

... crazy candy lady, would you happen to have anything acidic or dangerous in that bag to pour onto the cables?

"hot chocolate or I could use the stuff that's in sour candy and try to get the most potent of the stuff and hope it's enough to melt them!

"Mix hot chocolate with the sour stuff, and any molasses if you have it. The heat will weaken the cords, and also discourage people from climbing across. Try to spatter some already successful borders with it too if you can."
