Best shows to watch with a 10 year old girl
« on: March 26, 2016, 04:44:48 pm »

Title says it all. I'm currently couchsurfing and business partner/friend has a daughter. She's on spring break right now and I don't really have anything to show her besides games; torchlight ii is cool and all but I doubt it will last through tomorrow.

Any good series/movies that are must-watch material/good sunday flicks?

I second Avatar. I was thinking about MLP.
The Last Airbender, Star Wars: Rebels... My Little Pony if you need to.
Third'ing TLA and My Neighbor Totoro! Also was thinking about MLP but that's limited per country.

Forgot some great shows I watched when I was younger. Maybe a bit of Land Before Time (if it's possible), and Spirited Away (though if she's unfamiliar with a cultural context of spirits, it may scare her like it did my 12 yr old niece x3 Especially No Face and the transformations); Vec and Cado suggested shows in the Studio Ghibli genre, maybe you'd like to take a peek there and see which could best fit the times.
I'd personally add Princess Mononoke but I may be a bit silly with the violence and blood.
But if you're going for Ghibli...not Grave of the Fireflies until a LONG WHILE LATER.

Maybe Phineas and Ferb? Recess? Early seasons of Spongebob? The Wild Thornberrys?
I'm recalling most of those shows I watched in the 90's or early 2000's. ._.

OH!
If you're going for movies, I'd really suggest The Dark Crystal and Spirit: Stallion of the Cimmaron. The former for its great musical scores and a bit of animated fun, and the latter for...a lot of reasons. :P
The Hunchback of Notre Dame?
The Iron Giant?
Toy Story?
The Prince of Egypt?
An American Tail?
How to Train Your Dragon?
Mulan?
oooo, Fantasia? (If you're into music as a parallel to the show?)
101 Dalmatians?
Finding Nemo/Ratatouille?

Also, add Princess Tutu, which despite the name is pure excellence.
omg you too. YES THIS! :3

I will second Phineas and Ferb, How to Train your Dragon, Toy Story, Finding Nemo, and Ratatouille.

I'll also say if you can even find it, Jacob Two Two, for it is an amazing series. :)

I "own" a 9 year old. She is fairly a-typical in her tastes though... but some of the more mainstream ones might be worth trying.

Spongebob Squarepants
The Incredibles
Wreck It Ralph
Hobbit/LOTR (yes, all of them)
Harry Potter (yes, all 8)
Back to the Future trilogy

Erm... I am sure there are more, but my brain fails me at this moment.

i too love dragonball with many hearts
(+1! Even if I missed all of it since forever.)

Hobbit/LOTR (yes, all of them)
Harry Potter (yes, all 8)
Back to the Future trilogy
Tons more but all my Yes here o-o
(Though IMO, if you're going for Spongebob, the earlier seasons are better and funnier/more relatable)

Wondering how it's going inteuniso?

If you're going with dragonball, only the original is worth anything, since it has actual plot and adventure and less then half of it is about NONSTOP FIGHTING THAT TAKES MULTIPLE EPISODES. I guess the earlier part of GT is also pretty adventurish, something which sadly changes later.

Cartoon Network offers lots of good stuff for that age range in general. Steven universe and all that jazz, there's also flapjack, which I don't know if they still have, which is good if the kid is specially weird (its kind of like spongebob but extra weird).

Adventure Time has prob been mentioned infinite times by now, too.

If she's into the animus, try one piece. It takes a bit to become good, but after then its pretty much a very enjoyable mix of funnies, action and adventure.

Both of my sister's love Adventure Time. I think it's a good place to start if any.
