Lets make a RPG Maker MV Game! Community Aided
« on: March 25, 2016, 10:45:11 pm »

Hello I am Neonivek and I am here to present a second community project which will be worked on concurrently with the visual novel.

I was perusing RPG Maker MV and was expecting it to fail me once more until I happened to find the Yanfly engine. Expecting it to be a nearly impossible to use Plugin (like many plugins) I instead found it easy to use. Thus I am inspired to use RPG Maker MV to create a Bay12 custom RPG.

http://yanfly.moe/

I will list all the mods I am using but suffice it to say 80% of his plugins will be going into any project I start. It just functions better to be honest.

But what can I do?

1) You can submit a NPC: For this you will need a character sheet, portrait, Bio, and Role
2) You can submit a combatant NPC: For this you will need a character sheet, portrait, and "battler", Bio, and Role. As well as a general idea of how you fight and your stats.
3) Submit a full character: Character sheet, Portrait, Side view character, Bio, Role, Classes, weapons, just go crazy.
4) Submit a weapon

If you would like to help with the story or in more substantive ways I would love the help. There are definitely things you can do that do not require you to have the program as well.

In the spoilers is a blank of the sheets

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Monsters don't use anything special to my knowledge PNGs with a transparent background works.

So I am thinking of several ways to make this game a bit more difficult and here are my ideas so far

Attributes
-I limit them to a very low amount going from a starting point at about 100 to a ending point of 1000

Healing possibilities
-Healing skill cooldowns
-Healing is a limit break
-No healing based items

----

Outside of this I am thinking of a very Dwarvenly type class system. Yet my fear is it might make a wide party selection obsolete. I'll have to think about how to do it.

I could make each person unique by giving everyone their own special attribute or skill.

As well some characters (the ones people submit) could have their own unique class if they would like.

---

Finally storywise I am going to leave this open for a bit until we get a better idea of what our players are.

Yet I always figured it would be in a pseudo Bay12 fortress. Boat12 :P

Which is an underground fortress... On a boat.

---

Judging by the lack of interest, I should probably stop waiting and start working on this right away.

Was hoping for more attention but lets get some more of the concepts hammered out:

Because Dwarf Fortress has a large amount of focus I am thinking of having crafting being one of the main sources of creation in the game.

In fact I could in theory link recipes to classes, even if that would be quite difficult. That way sending your Craft Dwarves into battle has a genuine benefit.

So here are my ideas for classes:
-Craftsmen: Speedy physical attacker based on luck mechanics who mood.
-Blacksmith: A physical attacker with some elemental recourse. Occasionally with Moods.
-Surgeon: A single person healer
-Farmer: A multiple person healer
-Hunter: A ranged attacker who can peg multiple targets in single rounds.
-Weapon Master: A steady attacker who can equip just about any weapon.

With some advanced/secret classes like
-Philosopher: A debuffer based on long boring speeches and lectures.
-Mayor: A buff based class who encourages others to fight.
-Champion: A Paladin type class who can heal through inspirational speeches.
-Vampire: A sort of mix of a Magic Knight with lots of HP drain
-Wizard: Looks like Cado has had some influence

---

I can expand the class list but without help you can understand that a single class can expand.

What do you think? Perhaps I should adjust the basic classes.

What about making blacksmith's provide buffs instead of being physical attackers? With the weapon masters, would it make more sense to have them specialise in a particular weapon? That way they deal more damage more quickly with say, a mace but are still able to use all weapons.

That is a great idea for the blacksmith.

Weapon Master you are right. But If I include all the weapons it might be an issue. I need to pick a weapon.

---

Due to obligations I'll put this on pause until I am free! But I will be back.

Right now I am making a test RPG to test the features.

---

On second thought I don't need to close this. So long as people are aware that this is going to remain in the planning phase until I finish my test RPG.

For those wondering the TEST RPG I am making is basically a gift I am making for someone.

I am trying to use all the features I can so I get the hang of them. Currently the biggest barrier is that I am lousy with the new animation creator. I've been getting better, but I am no where close to par.

If anyone wants to check it out for themselves, I could drop box it... but it is a gig in size and is BARELY finished.

It will be from level 1-10.

After which I am free to start the other two projects.

My BUTT is being kicked, utterly kicked, by RPG Maker MV. I can't animate with it to save my life.

I thought the test RPG I am making right now would teach me how to do it... but it seems like even afterwards I am going to have a lot of issues.

I actually can animate quite well in the older RPGmakers. This one? Not so much.

I actually considered making a life advice thread for just RPG Maker help. >_<

Animating as in painting the animation frames? if you can import/export your animations, can't you just animate in the older RPGmaker and import those into the new one?

That's what I was about to ask. If you can't do that then surely there's someone who would be able to help you. I don't want to see this project die off due to some problems with animation...
