A Game of Nomic: Turn 23: Game Over
« on: January 02, 2016, 10:11:02 am »

It has been a great deal of time since the last game of Nomic was hosted on bay12, so it is my pleasure to be the one to do so. Nomic is a game in which changing the rules is a move. The initial set of rules that I provide here basically only regulates the rule-changing process along with a couple other important features, so its up to you to start adding rules. Feel free to post a proposal or vote on one at any time to join in.

Player Statuses:

Person: A player. The judge. Holds the title of Lord.  7 Holy Imperial Elector Votes. 3 tokens. Iron: 8. Commerce: 3
Sensei: A player.  1 Holy Imperial Elector Vote. 1 token.
crazyabe: A player. Holds the title of "Lord Uln 'Proposes Uselessness' the eighteenth". 0 Holy Imperial Elector Votes. 0 tokens. Slaves: 8. Commerce: 3
FallacyofUrist: A player. 2 Holy Imperial Elector Votes. 1 token. Chronoenergy: 8. Commerce: 3
TopHat: A player. 6 Holy Imperial Elector Votes. 3 tokens. Hats: 8. Commerce: 3
MonkeyMarkMario: A player. 2 Holy Imperial Elector Votes. 1 token. Gold: 8. Commerce: 3
Elephant Parade: A player. 6 Holy Imperial Elector Votes. 2 tokens. Blue Cards: 8. Commerce: 3
NAV: A player. 1 Holy Imperial Elector Votes. 2 token.

Native resources: A player receives 1 unit of their native resource at the start of each turn. Note that players can only hold 10 units of a given resource.
Person: Iron
"Lord Uln 'Proposes Uselessness' the eighteenth": Slaves
MonkeyMarkMario: Gold
FallacyofUrist: Chronoenergy
Elephant Parade: Blue Cards
TopHat: Hats

Alliances: They're all here, all 1 of them.

TopHat-Elephant Parade Alliance:
TopHat Supports alliance proposals by default.
Elephant Parade does not support alliance proposals by default.

Current Valid Proposals: As of turn 5, this now includes more information about said proposals. This should both save me a lot of work, and make information easier to find for everyone.

Mafia: This tracks votes to lynch and the alignments of any killed players, where applicable. Format is the target, followed by who voted on them.

Sensei:
"Lord Uln 'Proposes Uselessness' the eighteenth": Dead. Townie.
FallacyofUrist: Dead. Townie.
TopHat:
MonkeyMarkMario:
Elephant Parade:
NAV:

Reality Warps: All in one place so they are easy to vote on. A super majority (two thirds of all players) must oppose this to prevent it. A super majority is currently 7 out of the 10 players.

Election of a Holy Emperor: Format is the candidate, followed by the votes they've received, followed by who those votes are from.

Spoiler: Passed Proposals (click to show/hide)

Proposal 69 - Creating a Guide for New Players: The following spoiler will be added to the OP, immediately below the first paragraph.

Furthermore, Elephant Parade and the Judge may both propose edits to this spoiler at any time, using the following format:
Quote from: Example
Edit Primer: Description of edit
The edit is implemented as soon as the Judge chooses to edit the post. If a player feels the edit to be biased or deceitful, they may oppose the edit by including the words oppose edit (or an approximation) in bold; players, with the exception of the player who proposed the edit, may then vote for or against the reversion of the edit. If, at the end of the turn, more players are for the reversion than against it, the guide is reverted; otherwise, nothing happens.

This needed its own space.

Proposal 1: Each proposer of a successfully passed proposal gains one Holy Imperial Elector Vote, the effects of which may be determined by future rules.  This Vote remains in perpetuity unless otherwise taken away, and one player may have multiple votes.

Note:  Edited to include a proposal number.

Proposal 2: A proposal can be made to make a rule or group of rules "Untouchable". Untouchable rules can only be changed by unanimous vote, unless their "Untouchable" status is removed. "Untouchable" status can be removed via a proposal, but only if this is explicitly stated in the proposal.

Proposal 18: Strike rule 17 from the record. Its contents are redundant to those of rule 1 and rule 8.

I oppose all previous proposals, for their lack of reference number.

Adjusted earlier proposal to be named Proposal 1.

I Oppose Proposal 18, rule 17 determines that the actual approved rules should have sequential numbers.  Actual proposal numbers are irrelevant, and your proposal did not begin as number 1.

Upon a second reading, yes, rule 8 applies to proposals while rule 17 applies to passed laws. Therefore, I oppose my own proposals.

Ah, yes. I forgot about reference numbers. Shame on me, given that I started this game. As such, I've fixed my previous proposal to be Proposal 2.

Your proposal is invalid anyway Sensei, as is crazyabe's. Invalid proposals need not be opposed, since it isn't technically possible to vote on them. Note that proposal numbers are entirely separate from rule numbers, though there will be some overlap early on.

Proposal 3: Anyone submitting an invalid proposal shall be subject to a punishment. Until their punishment has been served, that person may not submit or vote on any proposals. Unless specified otherwise in a later rule, the default punishment shall be to write a haiku.

I support  this proposal. Also, now that our previous proposals are valid, would you care to reconsider your votes Sensei?

Proposal 4: In order for a proposal to pass, a proposal must have at least votes on it from at least half of the players in the game in order to pass, in addition to any previous proposals.

(This is to stop people from making proposals 5 minutes before the deadline that pass because they have 1 supporting vote and no opposing votes. Though note that until a proposal like this one passes, I'll probably oppose such proposals on principle, since I'll have to be here to post the next turn anyway.)

Proposal 5: Amend Rule 14 to read as follows: 14: At the end of a turn, the votes on all proposals are counted. Any proposal in which the majority of the votes are supporting is passed, and the nomic is changed according to that proposal's instructions. A majority vote is defined as more than half of the votes cast.

(This is probably already the case unless someone looks up a really obscure definition of "majority", but it certainly can't hurt to define this. This also allows the definition of other types of votes, in case people maybe feel like using super majorities in the future, or something like that.)

Proposal 6: In the event Proposal 4 passes, this supersedes.  Otherwise:  In order for a proposal to pass, at least two players must Support it (which may include the original proposer).

This avoids last-minute votes, but also takes into account absentees.  I Support Proposal 4.

Total: 2/1, Passes 2 to 1.

Opposed by: No one.

Total: Passes 2 to 0.

Supported by: Person, Iituem

Opposed by: No one.

Total: Passes 2 to 0.

Opposed by: No one.

Total: Passes 1 to 0.

Proposal 6: In the event Proposal 4 passes, this supersedes.  Otherwise:  In order for a proposal to pass, at least two players must Support it (which may include the original proposer).

Total: Does not pass 1 to 1.

That wraps up turn 1. Not particularly eventful, but a good start. We need more players, clearly.

Current Holy Imperial Electorate

Person: 2 Votes
Sensei: 1 Vote
Iituem: 1 Vote

Clarification:  Do we restart from Proposal 1, or do we continue on with Proposal 7?
