Noir pauses.... and almost seems illl for a moment when the three come in as they grip their head with a hand breathing deep trying to focus and they begin speaking.

"...I...I...My name is Noir. I went on the mission....to retrieve the..........the....heart? Heart right? Yes heart. We arrived...with the carts...sloped...or...on a slope..slide down some supplys lost....I believe...we fixed that situation. I spent my time with.....

Noir bites her lip...and trys to keep composed her eyes growing watery and her voice as she speaks next sounds quite strained.

"...J-Jack....and someone...I think dar...or....or tentacle thing....terrance? I...um.."

Noir swallows and clears away the bluriness in her eyes and trys to focus her voice becoming more firmer.
"...I no we spent most of the time in the starting room trying to get through a kinda collapsed area...helped jack a few times had a few close calls.....and then...it got dark and the.....collapse happened?"

Noir's face contorted...and struggled for a moment ss she remembered....jack..seeing him crushed in front of her and she could do nothing.

"...Jack...jack...was crushed by rubble in front of me...I-I tried to save him but I wasent....f-fast enough...For the...rest of the collapse I don't remember much..beyond...grief...and falling and descending and dodging. I ended up at the bottom went up stairs into a room portal was there..."

"...I don't remember much of the trip....was cold...I was overwhelmed...ended up...meeting some kinda...being....they brought jack back....did some..things that led to....the incident."

" The carts were in the air...most of us would have starved or died of thirst...people couldent get up there..despite multiple attempts..I managed to get up there but...some stuff with the cart happened I messed up my wing...I told people I dident know how to control the thing...but...I don't think anyone heard me...so I had to try to land it........I killed almost everyone....I've only been in this world for a few months...I had no idea what I was doing."

Noir's eyes fill up watery tears flowing out freely now as a sob came from her throat her hands gripping her own hair.

"....Jack died...the floor got destroyed I got out...almost everyome died...I neraly died as well and broke my jaw..messed myself up more..passed out...I spent the rest of the mission staying in one spot while people took care of me and I fixed my wounds............"

Noir holds her head harder quietky drawing some blood with her fingers and she looks up.
"...D-Did...jack have a family...I-I..they deserve to know what h-happened if he does..."
De report.
"What caused the collapse that destroyed the first cart and killed several of your fellow Omegas?"
"Please describe this being - this 'wish granting being' - that raised Jack from the dead."

Aylia's forms: Natural, elf, frostcat, human, raven, horse, goldfish, plantbeing, water nymph, mermaid, bluebell fairy, sprite, frost giant, winged lizard, star sprite, floaty

I turn in my lantern, lantern oil, and bribe pouch as agreed when I was issued them.

I check in on my star sprites, making sure they both got back okay and seeing if they need anything.

I then report in on the mission, giving essentially the same report as was given to Cpt. Grey.
So, currently sixteen forms. Okay.

Items delivered. They verify that the rest of your equipment remains with you. The Star Sprites are taken elsewhere and you don't get access to them. Neither the QM nor the young man at the officers' reception desk can tell you anything about them.

"Your objections to the" *papers shuffling* " 'lack of training with mission critical equipment,' and 'dangerous starting location' are noted, and will be properly investigated.

You were mission lead, correct? Please explain where the mission went wrong from a teamwork point of view, and from an on-site leadership point of view, and what decisions might have been more effective given the circumstances.
This person speaks in a quiet, professional tone. Teh impression is clinical, almost sterile, as of a doctor dissecting a curious specimen, and talking to its assistant.

antimagic is specific to a particular form of magic. you could be antispell, anti sorcery(though as a construct, that seems off a bit) anti ritual, antidruidic, etc. it's the same as with Holiness - each has it's own source and expression. probably the most general use would be something like "alter elemental magic." I forget which demolition spells we were talking about. I was throwing ideas at you to see what would stick. Give me something more to work with here, I'm starting to lose track, what with wrapping up one mission and starting the other.

My bad. So, what I'm looking for is two upgrades to fill my specialisation spots. I think the most interesting would be one thing that has to do with magic, and one thing that has to do with clunkers being a construct.

So, for the magic bit I'm looking for options of either upgrading my existing clockwork magic spells, or getting new spells/magic schools. I was thinking less antimagic and more rewriting the mechanics of spells on the fly. You never actually elaborated on demolition spells, you just said the term. I'm open to other kinds of ideas though. Something to do with the clockwork staff could also be real good.

For the construct part, I think something that works off of clunkers being pretty dang durable would be in character.

I don't really have concrete ideas yet, because I don't really know what the gnomes can and are willing to do.

demolition spells generally involve materials destruction: explosions, soften earth and stone, fire, bend metal.

As for clockwork - I have an idea on how double specialization could work; using clockwork spells would be more powerful, but at the expense of being unable to cast other types of spells without a specific specialization in them. Additionally, you would require appropriate foci for each spell. So, you couldn't use the metronome or figuring to cause trees to wilt - you'd need a mechanical flower or something like that. You'd have to describe how the focus relates to the effect you are hoping to get, and that would give you a higher chance of getting the desired effect. Another possible specialization would be something like 'machine interface' which would be an information gathering type specialization, where yo ugain specific knowledge of a given item, being, location, or event. the foci for these wold be - for an item: something similar in form to the item - for a being: the clockwork figurine if humanoid, something similar if otherwise - for a location: a bit of material from the location or a similar location (dirt, grass, smoke, whatever) - and for an event - the metronome would be a start, though perhaps an item that experienced the event.

But information gathering doesn't really seem to be clunkers' thing.

You want durability, we can add armor plating. Turn you into a walking suit of armor.

it's your character. I've given you a bunch of ideas. Come back with something you want to do.

Dar'yajira will ask Grey to bring the moss down to the bottom of Omega Base, and take the metal to... whoever should get it, with an explanation of what he wants done.  Dar would do both things himself, but he's a cat, and therefore somewhat impaired in the "carrying stuff" department.

After that, he'll sneak away before anyone can drag him into giving a report, and head down to the bottom of the base.  He'll spend the turn searching around for a relatively decent place for the lichen to grow--perhaps some cave near the small amount of water that's around?
Grey already left - business to attend. Gonna need to get someone else to bring that down from the cart. Now, let's see if you manage to avoid giving a report.
(2) nope. "Ah, there you are. Please, come with me, sir Druid." The Speaker is smaller than you, has a curiously canine face, wings, and tufts of long hair growing out of elbows, knees, ankles and wrists. It has a long tail, one golden eye and one bright green - almost glowing. And the whole of it shimmers or wavers, as if the air between yo uwere roiling like when the sun heats up the desert.

Say above.

Allow me to illustrate the folly of allowing double specializations:

Skills:
Unarmed combat: +0
Blunt weapons: +0
Sharp weapons: +0
Ranged weapons: +0
Magic: -2
Medicine: +0
General knowledge: +0
Skill Mastery: +2

Specializations:
Magic
Magic
Magic
Magic
Magic

How would you resolve the above when he tries to cast magic missile?

((Make every double spec cost an extra specialization slot.
That way the above example only gets magic III.

Although with the above sheets I  really want specialization's to be a multiplier.
No spec mean's no skill bonus tier 1 let's you use 100% of your modifier, tier 2 is 150% rounded down, and tier 3 is 200% of your moifier.

That way it costs 4-6 specialization's depending on how you work it, and Mr magical bomb up there gets a -4 multiplier when he casts magic missile and nukes himself out of existence.))

Clearly running multiple missions at the same time is a terrible idea.  The epic battle to see which team can cock it up worse has escalated again.

And Larry kinda gets blueballed in all this; just left with a raging bone spear and no where to put it.

"I fire magic missile at the darkness"
"You miss"
"How can I miss the dark is all around us"
"you still miss."
Alternatively, every failure ends with immolation. You have basically designed a self destructive force of nature, like if anger consumed the Hulk physically, or Superman were allergic to the Sun, or if the Green Lantern were colorblind or if someone wanted to write an intelligent, considerate review of Twilight.

besides, "magic" is too broad f a specialization.
now, let's try it with -2 blunt, 5x spec in 'club.'

"I swing my club at the broad side of that barn."
(5) "You hit yourself in the face, hard enough to shatter bone."
alternatively: (1) "you hit the barn. The club explodes, sending shards of wooden material into your body. You fall, bleeding, to the ground. you die."

useful ideas. I see we have similar ideas about what a spell cast with that stat sheet would accomplish

Magic is just shorthand for some specific type of magic. Spellcasting, probably.

mhm. okay. So, you could have perfect recall (assuming you had + in memory) and could complete the gestures, wording, tones, and so forth perfectly every time. you could very rarely miscast. but, the effects you create are but a pale echo of what they are intended, at best, or, at worst, actively and insiduously harmful to yourself and others. cast Magelight? You either get a tiny blinking red light, or go blind, while darkness permanently oozes out of you like smoke as your mind slowly slips into a darkness of its own.

magic school: sorcery? the sorcery controls you rather than the other way around, and magic is a fickle thing. You'll end up mishapen, consuming and radiating magical energy uncontrollably, eating rocks and pooping cubic zircona, howling ath teh non-existent moon and randomly teleporting into closets, brambles, and roman style bathhouses.

magic school: Druidic? You area disease, an infection against the world. unless that is your intent, in which case, you are diseased and infected.
Basically, you are highly in tune with a particular school, but negatively so.

Hmm. I'm not actually sure what the psychic powers I put on my character sheet actually let me do. Which means that you know even less than me. Want to get that sorted out?

Touch of the Not-Yet-Understood: Spooky, strange, only-somewhat-controlled psychic effects. Affects one's mind, not their soul.
you want to try and understand the not-yet-understood? You want me to enumerate teh effects and collapse the quantuum skill? I do have a fair idea of how this talent works, and the vagueness gives me a bit of free reign, considering that Caroline is alien. that is, even Evelyn is not sure how Caroline's mind works, or what those powers do.

I mean, if you had a specific notion of what this was supposed ot be, I am open to discussion. I'm just saying that I didn't ask questions because I already had an answer.

Guess I don't want to collapse the wavefunction so much as I want to know what kind of actions I can take to interact with it. Can I try to scan passively without imposing my will on the world? Can I speak through it? Is it something I cast and know what it'll do, or something that I allow to act through me?
These are somewhat silly questions to be asking, because I'm the one who invented it, not you. But I'll ask them anyway. :P

Also, Caroline is the human; Evelyn is the alien.

"I suspect that in both cases things fell apart near the start, and that one of those mistakes was my own choice to attempt to go scouting for a better place to put the carts in person when I had not yet seen how capable the two designated teams and team leads were. I do not know firsthand if my being there could have helped, but not being onhand certainly did not. After all, by the time I came back, the carts were destroyed, and the chain reaction of events had begun. By the same token though, since I wasn't there, I don't know what other errors were made."

peek my head up out of the cart and see if everyone has left yet.

If so, grab a box of rations and sneak off somewhere.
Maybe use my soften earth tattoo to dig a nice little cave for myself to rest in between missions.

((Hey ozarck, did we ever establish the requirements for being able to use multiple tattoos simultaneously?

I recall a vague "after a few level up's" but nothing specific.))

((@Ozarck
There's still a very relevant question, of what would happen if Egan's example had +2 instead of -2 magic skill.  Let's say their spec is in a pretty versatile school, like Ebony's wizardry.  In what way is that char balanced with their peers?  They can cast, with apparently nigh-perfect reliability and great power, a vast array of spells that can occupy a great range of roles.))

"This one requires assistance first.  Could Baldmonkey send one to bring Moss to base of Base, and bring metal to Magesmith?  Cat will give report then."

Dar says the above to the creature.  He's stubbornly staying with the cart and his items until his request is met, but will begrudgingly follow afterward.
