How do we deal with the wererats?

((Well, at best they can call it a minor strategic victory. They lost a wererat and what I'm guessing is most or all of their secondary forces. In exchange, some of the party is diseased, but if any of our allies has a moderately powerful divine caster, they can fix us up in a day or two.))

Now that their handler is dead, and while continuing to play, Ritiki shouts commands to the rats outside, attempting to get them to leave. Handle Animal +4 for Rodent Empathy.

(?) You shout at them to leave, but they already got the message with the flames.

((This was a complete and utter failure for them, don't try to make it anything else. They wanted to spread disease to our "vast" army bluff and failed bit time. Said army doesn't even exist to start with (and if it did, it'd include the other tribes)

I'm not particularly scared of a small fever which really needs a level 3 cure spell which we can probably procure pther ways. At most it'd be a few days of quarantine for the sickened party members. At best they'll go fetch the oncredients for their own cure the incoming day.))

((Assuming they don't try and attack again. I do admit, I took out the actual "boss" of this encounter because you guys would say I'm an asshole for doing it. Given the conditions I said he would show up at when talking about it to another DM in real life, he should have shown up by now. The main problem with me springing this boss fight in, would be the fact that it stands, by itself, a CR 3 enemy, and even though you're taking out CR 2 swarms, there is no way you're ready to take this one on. Especially since they have a special way of killing you. And I don't think any of the party members have a way to counter their method of combat.

Maybe I'll bring it back later, but since you guys have had enough burning things, and I'm not gonna be too hard on you guys, you pretty much finished this encounter. It's just cleanup work now))

((You would be the one to suffer the most, more than likely))

You fire your crossbow (4+1) and watch the bolt fly past the dire rat

Dire rats 2 and 6 both struggle as the bramble seems to tighten around them

Ewan watches, waiting in case something comes out after you

"Kylie, can you get your Roc to scout for us after we dispatch these grunts? I'd love to make sure we're not caught by surprise again."

Reload and shoot.
"I don't know where Vethr is. I usually let him fly freely at night."

You fire your crossbow. (13+3) You hit DR3, dealing (2) damage. It is still standing

The flames converge as they spread, creating a giant inferno. Dire rats 3, 4, and 7 take (8) fire damage, burning them all up.

You hear screeching overhead and then screaming as you hear a crunch as something lands in the fire. Arioch got his answer as you see a wererat strike the ground, breaking its bones and dying in the fire.

Kylie moves up and fires at DR2, hitting it dead in the side and dealing (6) damage, killing it.

She looks up and sees something and shouts a command.

"Vethr! Take that one alive!"

You hear squeaking as you hear Vethr grab a rat, squeaking and then turning to screaming as it changes form to try and break free. It falls due to Vethr having a hard time grasping it and it falls. You watch him strike the ground, breaking his legs and screaming in pain as he lands outside the bramble. He tries to crawl, away, but Vethr blocks his way.

The party has defeated the siege! The party gains 1050xp! ((If you level up, let me know))

Mauricio and Kylie douse the flames with (assuming) Jehane, killing the fire and eventually, the bramble fades again to nothing but ash and burning hot sand. Smoke exhumes itself from the ground, leaving a big smoke signal that you are there. With the light of the moon, it is very easy to see.

As you're dousing the flames, the crippled wererat tries to kill himself, but Varg, rushing through the burning hot sand, quickly disarms him and takes his sword.

Vethr helps him cross after the flames die, and he brings with him the prisoner. His legs are broken to the point the bones stabbed through his kneecaps. Without the aid of magic or a very experienced healer, he will never walk again. He's in a lot of pain.

A look of disgust shows on Arioch's face for a moment before disappearing behind the perfect visage.

"I'll go fetch the medical specialist. He has a lot of work to do tonight.

We'll need a night watch in case more of them show up. Really I think Vethr would be perfect."

Arioch touches the bridge of his nose for a few seconds with closed eyes before turning around.

"And somebody please clean up this mess. We've got children in there and I doubt all this screaming will leave pleasant memories as it is."

Jehane coughs wetly, then makes her way to where the packmaster had died to try to recover the bolt she used, check for any possessions of his, and recover the dagger Martijn had thrown.

You do so. Picking up the weapons, they are hot to the touch, but not scolding. The wererats had another shortsword and what seems to be a longsword (though the material is a little frail). The sand doesn't hurt your feet through your boots, but you now have very warm feet. The silver and the silver on Martijn's daggers are stained black from ash and the heat, with some minor warping on his daggers. All bolts and arrows, however, are reduced to only arrow and boltheads as the fire consumed or damaged the shafts beyond repair. As for the bodies themselves, there is little left after the inferno, but the one alive seems to have an empty sack that looks like a poorly made satchel. You guess this was the loot bag if they succeeded.

"KILL ME! I CAN'T TAKE THIS PAIN!" He screams out loud as he starts crying, grasping his exposed bones as blood rushes out of them. One of the guards speaks up

"The best we have are apothecaries and herbalists. We don't have anyone else who is a trained practitioner that can help that."

The other guards go search for them regardless.

Within minutes, they arrive, with their pouches and such. One of the apothecaries, Nina O'Coligligh, stops and looks at Martijn and Jehane before checking their temperature and looking at your faces before shaking her head.

"You two got yourselves a case of filth fever. No good. I'll look into helping you later." She has an Iscaarian accent, but you can tell she doesn't follow their faith as she bears a sign of a druidic faith on a tattoo on her face. The herbalist and the two apothecaries look at the wererat who continues to scream for you to kill him, but there is nothing they can do.

"I can't use my magic. I'm out for the day."

Mauricio steps forward and casts his last spell of the day to try and heal him. His bones are still broken, but the wounds close up and they go back into his legs. He still begs for you to kill him, mostly due to how painful having both legs broken might feel both physically and mentally
