How do we deal with the wererats?

Scare them into the deeper parts and cave in parts of the cavern, sealing them in

Ritiki's fur bristled at all of the accusations.

"I sympathize with them because they are beings, like all of us! Have we all not fled from those who can and do slay anyone not matching their narrow definition of "people"? I simply don't wish to begin a new life here by doing the exact same thing!" With that, he stomped some feet away from the rest of the group in order to calm down.
"I understand what you mean. Varg, you've been here for your whole life. I know it must be hard to understand, but you have not seen the wars and the strife from our lands. I'm sure Ritiki experienced some of its worse parts, as did many others of our clan. I would like nothing more than cooperation between us all. I'm just... Appalled that they fight so young... It is the same as with the army of Iscaaria. They send their children to train and fight in battle so they can be in the fields of war as early as 15. They are but one of the many reasons we fled here. And they are also one of many things we are warning your clans of."

Varg looks at the ratfolk, and then back at Ewan before nodding with a half scowl, half sympathizing look

"I will try to still my tongue next time something like this comes up."

Arioch looks at Vorlak in slight surprise.

"Well aren't you feisty today."

He throws a look at Ewan.

"Master linguist back home, Ewan. We'll talk more later."

He next converses with Varg.

"I understand where you're coming from, Varg. Thank you for supporting me. There just are more than a few from across the ocean who want to do the right thing until it isn't possible for it. You can't blame a man for that, even if it is a bit I'd idealistic."

After a small sigh, Arioch tells Vorlak to keep watch if Ritcher comes. Arioch goes after Ritiki, as if he was going to go apologize to a childhood love.

((Perception and Linguistics checks for James as well))

James recovers his crossbow and secures it safely, trusting to the silver ore sword for the next fight. As the argument rages between Ritiki and Arioch, he keeps his counsel until Ritiki stomps away to cool off. After giving him a few minutes, James approaches the ratman.

"You have a grand dream, Ritiki. And to a large extent, I think it is one we should persue. You're right, that we shouldn't annihilate a tribe because they are 'other' or inconvenient where they are. But we're not fighting them because of some notion that a wererat is less then a human, a werewolf less then a ratman. We're fighting them because they are a threat. To us, to the other tribes, and to your family. Some people are simply like the Iscaarans - the only way they deal with others is with the blade, and the only way you can handle them is the same.

Like you, I wish that we could have made a deal with them, but they were preparing to ambush us, even if we struck first. They won't be the first that we fail to convince with words, nor the last. The Night Stalkers, the White Fangs, some of the troglodytes- we can try talking them into peaceful relations, but it's likely that we'll have to fight them as well. Not because we desire what they have, or hate them for being different, but to defend ourselves and our own.

A dream is a wonderful thing, and you shouldn't let it die, but you also have to be willing to defend it when others want to tear it down for their own gain."

((Edit: I hope that I made sense there, being sick is no fun. :P))

"...yes, I know." The ratman stared off into the distance, not really focusing on anything in particular. "Just puts a bad scent in my nose, you understand? We just got here and already talking about possibly going to war. Was hoping we could go at least a year here without such things but now we'll be lucky to go a full week."

James nods and rests his hand on Ritiki's shoulder for a moment.

"I think it was luck or fate that put us here. If we had landed somewhere deserted, maybe we could have had peace. Or run into a civilization of undead, a beholder nest or a dragon that likes her privacy. Instead we met these tribes. You've had a paw in convincing two to work with us, and some of the lizardmen are might be willing to as well, if they ever come back.

Don't let what we have to do here crush your spirit."

Vorlak does as he's told as you go over to Ritiki. James has his hand on the ratfolk and is talking to him

During all this, Martijn has been staring at the youth he helped kill. Woodenly, he approaches to pick up his daggers before moving some distance off to sit down and listen to the others talking. His face betrays little, except for a flash of rage when it sounds like Arioch might be advocating forcible removal of the tribe. When it becomes apparent that he is just being pedantic, his face resumes its stillness.

((I just realized we've been doing this thing since the beginning of december and we've had a total of three and a half encounters. Either you guys are great at avoiding fights, or I suck at keeping this thing rolling. Probably the latter.

I'm gonna have to put a deadline on the decision again. As much as I love the RP conflict between the party, you guys ARE kind of on a tight schedule with reinforcements arriving and whatnot.

I'm gonna throw up a poll for you guys and let you vote it there, putting your arguments in chat for why you should do whatever.

Also, Sirus, I'm sorry for having Varg team up against your word, but that is how he feels about it, and he really doesn't know your full story. Truth be told, I have no problem with you guys doing whichever, I'm just letting you know the more you add to your list of allies, the more XP you'll get as a quest reward. Expect a lot at the moot if things go smoothly and you try to unify the three of you))

Ewan shouts at James, Arioch and Ritiki as he searches the bodies for anything else.

"Whatever you decide to do, make it quick. Ritcher should be back any minute."

((No big deal, like James said we can hardly expect Varg to understand what continent-spanning real war is like. The scale would probably boggle his mind.

I'd also be willing to bet that he'd never even heard of the term "genocide".))

((Considering he's never heard of Metal, thought you were a wererat, and never knew people could live without the lycanthropy cure/disease, very good chance.

He does not have the tongue. I will say though, that he has no problem in ousting them, as they have proven to be a problem to his clan, though very rarely. They ARE a good distance away))

((I'm the one that did. I was under the impression that that meant that the rest were going to be hidden, while in the second choice we all show ourselves.

If everybody hid except Arioch and Ritiki, we could play it off as if we two dealt with the enemy by ourselves.

And if we need to fight, well, we're at their front step. Though I suppose if negotiations fail we can reduce their numbers here on the plains.))

((Ah, ok. I'm fine with wait and have most of the party hide, or follow and have most of the party hide. Though James will stay still and hide behind the negotiators this time instead of failing at sneaking. :P))
