It'd mean a hell of a lot more work for me indeed, as basically the entire AtB ruleset cuts out, and I'd have to hand roll everything. It'd slow down the posting as I'd play less often due to the aggravation of it all.

If they ever do implement the nobility or pirate subsets, we'll see about getting ourselves some land or going rogue as appropriate. :)

Ideally both.

Lets just fudge the details and instead just say if they declare us a pirate we INSTEAD are locked out and HAVE to leave their space so we can be hired by someone else.

You can't even be declared a pirate by the game.  It's something you have to deduct/calculate yourself from the rules.

Heh, some fun things:

I was comparing available weapon systems at 3041 to see how they match up on damage per ton, damage per heat point and damage per crit space. The lasers (small, medium and large) all come up on top when doing so for the energy weapons side of things. On the ballistic side of things, the LB-10X is definitively better in every way to the AC/10. 1 less point heat, slightly longer range, weights one less ton and takes up one less crit space. Once you can purchase those, there is never a reason to use an AC/10 again, since you can just load a LB-10X up with slug ammunition and you have the regular AC/10 damage pattern.

The Ultra AC/5 actually has some small tradeoffs against the regular AC/5 - it weighs a ton more and takes up another crit space, but has less minimum range and a longer overall range.

For missile weapons, it's better to have two LRM-5s then one LRM10. They produce the same heat, but weight one less ton. When you get up to the LRM15 and 20, three LRM5s is better then one LRM15 in everything except heat production, and the same for the LRM20 and four LRM5s. 4x LRM5s produces 8 heat, weighs 8 tons and takes 4 crit spots. One LRM 20 produces 6 heat, weighs 10 tons and takes 5 crit spots. Also, a critical hit to one LRM launcher doesn't disable the whole set.

SRM launchers, on the other hand, are pretty well balanced. They each have their advantages - the SRM 6 has the best potential damage per point of heat, the SRM 4 the best potential damage per crit space used.

The Streak SRM 2 is mostly useful for its streak capability - it won't waste ammo if you don't roll to hit.

Yeah lasers are efficient but the PPCs have the advantage of doing more damage per hit(chance to breach armor sooner; less sandblasting) and they have longer ranges.

Theres a use for the SRM2: on vehicles, it doesnt generate heat, so you can maximize the chance to hit the target at least once by using more small launchers. Can be useful against targets that only need a couple of hits(battle armor, other vehicles or infantry, when using inferno missiles especially).

LRM10, 15 and 20 have an advantage when accompanied by Artemis IV FCS: since its always a 1 ton, 1 slot investment, the average damage per tonnage invested(heat and ammo accounted for too) skyrockets upwards. LRM20 with Artemis hits on the average with 16 rockets, while without Artemis only 12½ hit IIRC. Its the most efficient long range weapon of them all, until it gets jammed by ECM.

Stay away from Ultra ACs.  :P

They're amazing though... until they jam.

Megamek has an optional rule to allow you to unjam Ultra ACs the same as you can try with Rotary ACs, which I'll probably enable.

And you make a good point about the Artemis FCS and its benefits for larger missile launchers. 3041 is still (mostly) on the basic tech base though, which means we don't yet have access to those.

I also agree on the range comment, but most maps with the AtB rules devolve into short range firefights within a few turns. There's very little space to try to hang back and snipe. That said, I am looking forward to when Yellowjacket Gunships are a thing. VTOLs with Gauss Rifles are awesome.

Right, before 3060 or so the best weapon there is for mech versus mech brawling is the medium laser. And the MPL if the unit jumps a lot.

After that theres a lot more (useful) diversity.

Though the SRM2 is the one that benefits least from the streak ability, as you usually don't run out of ammo anyway. The 4 and especially the 6 shooters often run dry.

The fact that you have to pay for Case limits its usefulness to an extent.

Ouch. I am curious as to how many working lances we will still have for next week. We need to deploy two lances every week, right? Hopefully that's still doable, even if we have to drop to three-mech lances.

Also, finally we won something! Hooray! It was... painful seeing how many Gyro crits we got. Although hopefully those will be repairable with that extra-time option!

We need to deploy three lances every week, but only one of those lances is required to be doing recon work. The other two can be on fight, defend or training assignments.

Training has the lowest chance of triggering a battle, so I'd recommend that for the non-recon lances.  Unfortunately, recon has the highest chance of battles.  Go Techs Go!
