Eh, let's just see how the rest of the fight is gonna play out, it'll be pretty short, unless you wanna try out NPC monsters?

Hold on, Dumbo. I'm just about to ascend to a higher plane of existence after I kill you and eat your soul.

Well...technically not.

Not unless you eat him.

I explode my energy arms and create a giant arm that's made of energy and is also a giant dog head. I eat Dumbo whole with it.
Huh. It seems I'm making a mix and match Alucard/Ichigo clone.

*pssst* add some essence for the magic of changing your arm.

Ah whatever, we'll assume you do.

Your two right arms merge together  and form an enormous maw of energy. You pull the pinning sword out of Dumbo and then devour him whole, taking the rest of his essence into yourself.

ANDRES WINS!

Ok, before we move on, questions or comments from the players or anyone watching?

The thread title would've discouraged people from looking into this thread. So now that we've done PvP and we understand the mechanics, what say we do PvE?

I feel it may have escalated a bit too quickly, I mean, from a single botch,  I threw him through multiple buidlings, which he then instantly recovered from about 5X better and reached the defenseless me in two turns, I felt it kinda annoying that I had actually handed him the win by using that air blast simply because he would have had no other way to basically activate his limit break, which then upped his damage capability through the roof and left me a target dummy.
Edit: But that's just me being salty, ON TO THE NPC FIGHTS!

I feel it may have escalated a bit too quickly

Keeping the original purpose in mind this might be exactly as intended. In a long-term campaign there's no way to recover essence lost except to fight the Yami; it would be very easy for a girl to become almost useless because she was badly hurt during a fight and didn't get a chance to recover. Spiking a girl's magical output when she gets wounded would provide a buffer of sorts that gives the player a chance to recover from an otherwise inevitable downward spiral of getting hurt and not being strong enough to recover.

Of course, the question then becomes "do the Yami get to do this too?" Even if the answer is yes then I can see combat becoming very interesting; do I use a death-of-a-thousand-cuts strategy so as to minimize the benefits I'm giving my enemy in terms of available essence, or do I go for the largest and most powerful attacks I can in order to kill them before they can turn their lost essence into more offensive power?

I'm not watching. You told people to not watch. Seriously.

It feels a little akward for PvP purposes, but then again that's not what it is for, as you have claimed. I think you should have started with a PvE test.

I take it that in actual combat, people won't fare too well by doing a full-transformation as it prevents the extraction of crystal hearts? What happens if someone uses a devouring attack on a Yami? Is it still just spilled Essence, or do they get something else?

Going RAW the use of a devouring attack or a magical form to kill/extract would count as magic as it is not ripping it out by hand without the use of magic or abilities. So it would destroy the crystal heart essence probably not  IMO.
