hmpf. well, that is a reason I can accept. although maybe we could have cooperated with the other side ( of course, we would have gotten the most benefits, so they wouldn't have accepted:P)

I agree on the river tributary. we have a farming advantage, we should press it.
make it so it crosses as much of our lands as it can. Like, maybe it enters the map next to the nrothern windmill, goes east of the castle town, then straight south? we would be able to irrigate all our land easily.
Or maybe the opposite, start from south windmill then go north. Which way does the river flow?

Castles and forts will be built as the game progresses, after th mapping phase is done you will be able to create two economic buildings, mines, lumber camps, etc... or upgrade your towns economy stuff along those lines. Which can all also be done during the campaign. However large scale fortifications will be limited to be being built during the war.

EDIT: I hadn't thought that far into the map as to decide which way it flows, I would say south though.

elfeater, he didn't want to make a new castle. He wanted to make the land on which our current castle sit ( and neighboring tiles) into hills.

I dont have a set size for the map, but it will take a decent while , I am thinking a week up to a month to march between the castles. And marching all the way to the castle would be very difficult to do undetected with a full sized army, the military portion will be sort of simulated, but still guided by you, for example if you station an army in the woods, you don't have to order them to ambush an army coming through, they would in general do this naturally, however you are able to lead your troops in combat yourself, which will provide bonuses, and any battle that happens will be reported in OOC, but your orders will not be, so they cant try and kite your armies for example. Turns will be a season in length.

Far to the North, a swamp lies, a local tribe lives there, trading with anyone who has coin or something they need, deep inside is rumored to be a forest of mushrooms, the same mushrooms that the local tribes use for trade, and to supplement their meals. The silt of the swamp is prized by farmers as it helps to fertilize their fields, the tribe however doesn't part with this freely and swears fealty to none, many armies have tried to march into the swamps but other than the logistical nightmare that stops most, those that enter are never heard of again. The swamp trade also provide spices and exotic plants, as well as meat and crab from the creatures inhabiting.

Around the seat of house Hao Kin Yuu Do'Dis and their town are hills, these hills house the shepherds of their land, a small part of the population but useful none the less. The hills were also used by the builders of the town to improve their defenses compared to their counter parts, with their cities wooden ramparts being built strategically to look down into surrounding valleys to maximize their tactical advantage. the great stone fortress of their land also makes an intimidating presence sitting atop the tallest hill of the land, over looking both the town and surrounding hills with ease.

I believe at this point the map is sufficiently filled, and adding too much more will end in just clutter. So we will set off into the next set up stage, you will place your two economic buildings on your side of the river, they have the option of being connected by road, if you dont state otherwise I will assume they are. They are able to be either away from our city exploiting resources, or in your city

we have metal rich mines, I think we must exploit that.
The question is what should the other building be?

we could go for a new farm, since we have an advantage to farms managed by us.
or we can go for  a lumber camp .

how does building economical buildings work later in the game? does it require resources? if so, is it assumed we have a basic stream of building materials anyway? if not, the lumber camp is a necessity.

Some resources will be gathered by peasants, such as wood and the like, some of which will return to you via taxes, this is enough for building most buildings and the like, say a boywer for making bows, but to supply it constantly you would need to buy more wood, with gold levied through trade and taxes. You would need a lot of wood to say build a wooden fort somewhere, which even with a logging camp you would need time to stockpile.

The other one... logging camp sounds good. Leftmost, then bottom-most forest tile on our side of the river.

In the mountain range to the north lies the prized possession of your family, you profitable iron mines, while some other ores are mixed in iron dominates the ore you get out of it, a side product is a bit of average quality stone.

Near the river you had set up a logging camp, with the woods here not nearly as profitable as the woods across the river, your supply is not as great, however due to the excess of beassts nearby, some hunters live along side your loggers.

With that ends the preparation phase, and begins the first part of your families feuds. Now begins the main part of the game, issue orders, taxes, etc... as any baron would do, but towards the goal of destroying your rival family.
