Turn 1. Part 1.
Year: 1217


You tell them about going to Duke Aurick's town to sign up as a soldier, or to join the Templars. You also invited them to both come with you.

Michael readily accepted, but Geli refuses as she is going east across the border.

A few weeks later you and Michael say goodbye too your friends and family and head off towards the local Counts large village. Your village gave both of you enough supplies, and coin(2 silver) to probably reach half way to the Dukes town.

The first leg of journey is largely uneventful and only takes a week. With the added bonus of Michael killing a boar on the last day which he sold in town for 2 silver. you and Michael still had enough food to get to the next village, and you managed to hitch a ride on a traders wagon in return for a bit of protection.

The second leg takes half a week and except for a bear sniffing around the food one night, nothing interesting happened. From the trader you learn a bit of trading and maths.

The third leg you don't manage to get a lift and have to refill your food supplies. A week through your journey, an arrow glides lazily infront of you and clatters off the ground...

Both you and Michael take out your weapons. 3 men and a women come out of the trees to your left. All holding clubs threateningly infront of them. They are all looking very thin and weak but they do outnumber you.

"Drop your weapons and yur packs and we'll let you live." He calls out to you, then as an afterthought "if ya don't make a problem we'll let you keep some food". at the same time his companions start trying to surround you.

Assessing the situation you could easily run away but they do have an archer and you may not have enough food too get to the town as you would have to go round. They may be bluffing about killing you guys, but they definitely look desperate enough. Then you could of course fight them, a bit risky and they are probably just trying to escape a vengeful Lord in the wilderness. Or you could give up your stuff and move on but that would mean both your weapons, which you know for certain Michael has grown very attached too. He called his bow Graham and hugs it as he sleeps.

Whisper to Micheal to aim for the archer and shoot when ready.

From there we'll block the two swords man as Micheal shots another killing or injuring them.

After that "You've lost a man and a second is injured. You should leave now and seek sanctuary in a church or die here attempting banditry.

There probally starving and not as agile so we should keep the speed up.

Tell them that you and your friend are experienced hunters and soldiers.  Offer to hunt down some nearby animals to provide them with food in exchange for safe passage.  If they refuse, then:

Whisper to Micheal to aim for the archer and shoot when ready.

From there we'll block the two swords man as Micheal shots another killing or injuring them.

After that "You've lost a man and a second is injured. You should leave now and seek sanctuary in a church or die here attempting banditry.

There probally starving and not as agile so we should keep the speed up.

"Look, while I do realize that we are vastly outnumbered by you, you people look like a very close band of people, who are very dependant on one another. So as my good friend to my side is a rather competent bow, with an interesting taste for a quick draw of battle, and I myself am a swift sword hand, it is likely that we at least take three of you, which would leave two rotting and starving to themselves, scarred by the loss of the loved. So therefore I would make the proposition to aid you in a quick hunt to stock up your supplies and we would part on our way."

You shout out to the bandits "my companion here is good with a bow. He could hunt some food for you and you could let us past." While you talk, Michael starts scanning the tree for any sign of the archer. Unfortunately he can't find any sign of them.

The bandits hesitate when you put out your offer. One of the men then says "Ok. We agree but it got ta be somethig big like a deer".

Everyone puts away their weapons and the archer in the tree's comes out. Turns out she was a women, she even smiles at you as if she hadn't just been shooting arrows at you.

You have a quick discussion with the would be bandits and learn that all the men had worked at mill and didn't like the pay. They quit all at once and the merchant who owned the place managed to get one his noble friends to make them wanted men till they came back to work. The two women are the wives of two of the men.

During the night you and Michael take turns on watch, just in case, but nothing happens.

In the morning, Michael heads off, while you hide all your belongings and sit with the people.

You get to talking and start to like a few of them. They seem like genuinely kind people making the best of a bad situation. During your talk, you hear the sound of hooves beating against the dirt road.

Peeking out through the trees you see a large contingent of Templars. A Knight Templar rides at the front on a large black warhorse, his white cape embroidered with a red cross and his helmet tucked underneath his arm. Beside him rides a monk dressed in a plain white robe. Behind are ten soldiers on small light brown horses, they each have a white tunic with a red cross upon it, then underneath a chain mail cuirass. At their side they hold the hilts of their swords. Behind them lie the squires and camp followers. In total there is around fifty people.

The monk spots you and as the contingent marches past. He shouts to you "There is a crusade gathering in the south, if you are a true believer, you must help to push the infidels back." Then continues now no longer shouting to you but too the whole group" The Christian kingdoms are setting aside their differences in the name of our Lord. To join together in an army so mighty, the demons in the east will cower in fear. May God bring us glory!" A ragged cheer comes from the contingent as they stomp along the road.

One of the men from the bandits, runs past you and joins the back of the group. He gestures to the rest of you to come but no one does.

Michael gets back in the evening, a deer on his shoulder. The four bandits left, quickly and efficiently skin and cook the deer over a fire.

They smile and wave at you as you walk away.

After about a month of walking through villages and over hills you arrive at a large town. You also notice there is a very large amount of armed men and sometimes women heading the same way. It's not Duke Auricks's but you are almost there, only a month left.

The town has a small castle on a hill overlooking the cobbled streets and stone houses. This could be an opportunity for you to move south to the coast and join the crusade. Or continue on the way you were before.

You can see there is a lot more older men than younger men in the town. As most young men went off to join the crusade with their Lord. This has left a surplus of jobs in the town, if you wanted to get a job here and earn some money before leaving again it would be easy.

The crusade probably won't leave for a year or so, not until all the other armies from further away arrive.

After buying food you have a total between you of 2 silver coins otherwise character sheet is the same.

Seek out an experienced older man in need of a paid assistant.  Offer to become his apprentice for a month or two.  Learn a new skill from this, use the money to buy more supplies, and continue on our way.

You ask around town a bit and find that there are a large amount of openings in a lot of different jobs.

Here is a list

Black smithing

Cobbler

Fletcher

Hauling and moving things/building things

Butcher

Bar keep

Saddler

Farming

Other miscellaneous ones if you aren't interested in these


You also have time to learn 1 skill to competent at most while you are here. Or increase one of your already existing skills by one level. Depending on the skill you may have to hire someone to teach you.

I say we do the construction job and use our money to learn strategy off of a wisened warrior. Later we can prove our worth to our superiours.
